If another version of EWR were to come out...

Hey guys, I recently showed EWR to a friend of mine who is a computer programming professor, and long time wrestling fan. He enjoyed it very much. This led to me asking if he would have any interest in using some of the script of EWR (since it's open source), adding to it, and creating a new wrestling simulator. He is very interested.

Him and I have begun work on what we're tentatively calling The Main Event: 2012. Here is where we need you, the loyal EWR enthusiasts.

What features would you like to see added or improved on?

Things We're Already Adding

- Match editor. Create your own match type.

- Calendar system

- Ability to change order of segments on booking screen without deleting and re-booking.

- Developmental federation relationships. I.E. book as Florida Championship Wrestling, and be able to use certain WWE wrestlers from time to time free of charge.

- More in depth developmental territory screen. See recent events, progress reports for individual wrestlers, etc.

- Other now "limitless" options. Want a three man announce team? How about an eight man announce time? You can do it. Two pay-per-views a month? Sure. How about three? Four? Seven? All up to you.

- Option to book events as segments or time framed.

- Much more realistic salary systems.

- More realistic ratings for events (recommended by Guinness-Mick)

- Fully customizable color schemes and graphics.

Who the hell has an eight man announce team anyway?

Unless you count CHIKARA, but they only have two at a time, and you can easily replicate CHIKARA announce team style in TEW too...

Yeah... I mean adding more match types would be enough for most EWR players.

Otherwise you're just explaining TEW. If your friend is serious about doing it, he can't make the games the same otherwise there's really no point.

I'm aware that many of the stuff is available in TEW. But we're planning on this being free, and not quite cluttered as TEW. It will resemble the simplicity that is the EWR layout, but have much more in depth features.

Also, as far as the eight man announce team goes: I don't really expect anyone to do it. But the option IS there. Basically we're looking to create a simulator where two months after we release it, if WWE or TNA add something to their product (the three man announce team or an inferno cage match for instance) you can easily replicate it in the game.

But TEW's not that cluttered, and you do get what you pay for with the newer versions. And it's still capable of doing the same thing you're claiming TME: 2012 can do.

Anyone that thinks TEW is too cluttered is probably using a crappy database. I tend to find that certain modmakers - like xXFutureLegendXx - tend to put craploads and craploads of unnecessary and hard-to-differentiate angles in their scenarios. I find that Idol's angle packs (based off of EWR's sorting) and the default angle pack are the best.

Yes. Agreed. But we're simply going to offer a simulator that does require you to have to sort of new packs because you want something more clear. It'll be clear, and if you want something that isn't already in the game, the process of adding it will be simple as well. It's all about improving whats out there. While yes, you can get most of this in TEW, it does, as you said, require you to search out add-ons. With TME you won't have to.

In TEW 2010, you can make your own angles while in the booking screen.... so no, you don't have to.

Yeah, I thought that the whole thing was locked up in a closet/storage somewhere, hence why there's never been EWR 5. As for it being open source, only Adam himself can confirm it.

Your best bet would probably be building something original from the ground up; I wouldn't be too happy if someone took years of hard work and then casually updated it, especially when I have commercial products that are in essence the updates to that program. You can still do a wrestling simulator, I would just try my hardest to make it different from EWR/TEW.

I'm pretty sure it's not open source.

Adam has stated in a few interviews that the game is open source.

And if we're mistaken, we'd gladly develop the simulator from scratch.

It isn't open source.

To be blunt, I'm not really sure how anyone would get that impression as the term "open source" is pretty literal; it means the source code has been made freely available for editing, which clearly the EWR code never has, otherwise there'd be hundreds of slightly-edited versions floating around.

If a "computer programming professor" doesn't know what open source means, you may want to check his qualifications.

Our mistake. No code from EWR has been used yet, and not code will be used. Thank you for clearing things up! (Y)

I would like to see more realism in the contracts system. Specifically non-compete clauses and TNA-style per appearance contracts (TNA wrestlers can work for indy promotions, provided that TNA gets a cut and that the show isn't televised and I'm pretty sure TNA wrestlers can't jump to WWE without securing their release). I'd also like to see something done to stop the WWE from releasing half its roster at the start of every game.

I'd like to see options relating to merchandise. It would be nice to be able to choose which wrestlers get T-shirts, to create DVD sets (featuring documentaries and classic segments from your old shows), and to sign a video game deal. I don't want a great deal of detail in this area. The DVD option obviously requires good records of past shows. I'd probably have the game store both the crowd rating and the match rating for matches because a 90% quality match between 2 undercard guys the crowd doesn't care about could mean alot more on a DVD set released 10 years later when both of them are legendary main eventers.

I would like the option to do Internet TV shows (obviously, the Internet is not a TV network and cannot refuse to broadcast your show) and the option to do Internet PPV events. I would like the option to tape multiple weeks of TV shows at a time (like how ROH tapes 4 TV shows back to back 6 weeks or so before any of them air and TNA tapes 2 shows back to back whenever they leave the Impact Zone), the option to run a "best of" show (if you don't want to book a TV show that week) and the option to do TV specials (negotiated for during contract negotiations). I would like the option to do segments such as the recent segment on Impact where they showed the old Kurt Angle VS Sting empty arena match from 2009 to hype their PPV rematch. This is probably too complex, but the ability to own a TV network (and fill it with recap shows, re-runs, classic shows, and even original programming) or to be "owned" by a TV broadcaster would be nice as well. WCW was owned by a TV network, as is ROH. It has been rumored for years that WWE wants to start their own network.

The way I'd handle the segments would be to declare a "segment" equal to (say) 5 minutes and therefore have the option to have a match or an angle go more than 1 segment. It simply isn't realistic for a 60-minute Ironman match to take up the same amount of "segments" as a routine backstage interview segment.
