They pretty much already aren't, but surely a loss this bad would cost Mike Smith his job.

The offensive and defensive playcalling from Atlanta this 2nd half has been downright dreadful. They deserve to lose right now.

If anything's changing it's the number of QB's who are good in the NFL. Nobody's going to put Flacco on a level with Manning or Kaepernick on a level with Rodgers, but the gap between that echelon of truly elite QB's and the echelon of middle-of-the-league QB's isn't as wide as it was even 10 years ago. Case in point, Joe Flacco came close to 4,000 yards and had he stayed in for the whole game in week 17 likely would have eclipsed it. His career QB rating is better than Aikman and in the last 4 years of his career he's thrown for more yards than Aikman ever did in a single season. Nobody's going to say he's a better QB than Aikman. There's just more talent at the position than ever before. It means elite QB's aren't just going to lose to fellow elites, they're going to lose to middle-of-the-pack QB's.

The disparity in numbers has a lot to do with rule changes too. The NFL has made a concerted effort to up the passing in the league.

I completely agree it does, but I also think a huge part of the equation has to do with there just being more talent at QB than at any time in history.

You could also argue that there's less collective talent on defense than any other time in the NFL. You have a lot of amazing athletes in most front sevens, but even the elite defenses get shredded fairly regularly these days. Matthew Stafford throwing for 10,000+ yards in two years says as much about the defenses he's facing as it does his own level of talent.

Atlanta succeeding in kicking a FG while having having two timeouts with 31 seconds left looked awfully familiar. Oh yeah, Denver last night! It's like being down a point showed to be an advantage for Atlanta by taking away the "decision" to kneel the ball.

It would be a very emotional Superbowl if we get Atlanta/Baltimore with Gonzales and Lewis playing their last games and both wanting to end it with a ring.

I personally would like to see a Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl. They could call it the Har-bowl.

I'm riding with Brady. I'll settle for Kaepernick or even Schaub, but can't find myself wanting to see Flacco or Ryan succeed at the highest level. Baltimore vs Atlanta would be the least appealing SB to me since Tampa Bay vs Oakland.
