Good news!

Ajax boss Frank de Boer expects defender Jan Vertonghen's proposed move to Tottenham will go through, but has tipped Vurnon Anita to stay at the Dutch giants.

The 25-year-old Belgium international claimed on Wednesday that his switch from the Eredivisie giants to England had stalled.

But De Boer thinks the £9.6m move to White Hart Lane will go through.

He said: "We're very close but if the deal isn't done, Jan must start his training next week with us.

"Eventually, I expect the deal will be done. I expect everything will be alright."

But De Boer believes Anita will stay, despite a bid from Newcastle for the midfielder.

"The probability that he stays at Ajax is very large. He is doing well here," said De Boer.

The Ajax boss wants to add striker Luciano Narsingh of Heerenveen to his squad, although he warns they will not pay over the odds for the player.

"We believe we have made him a very good offer. It must be made very clear that Ajax will not throw money down the drain," he said.

Jordi Alba moves to Barcelona for 14m Euros on a 5-year contract.

What we doing with the La Liga thread? Do we have a new one for this season or just use the old one? If we have a new one we could have a 'European football thread' so the Dutch lot can post about the Dutch league as they like to, and we can have German, French, Italian etc. all under one glorious roof? :)

14m. Great price at least.

I imagine there will be some add ons as well that we can't see just yet. Will be a good addition to the team with Abidal gone, but I wonder how they will balance their wings as Dani Alves often plays so attacking anyways they may end up with a back two, with Busquets just sitting in front and dropping in now and again. Will be enough against a lot of teams, but maybe not all of them?

I've never really had a problem with Denilson outside of what he earns. Arsenal's wage structure is designed to reward first time performances and keep the kids happy and tied down long term. The obvious problem being that when it doesn't quite work out, as with Denilson or Bendtner, you end up with a player earning so much you can't shift them.

If he comes back it wouldn't be the worst thing. He's not amazing, but tidy enough and he might've been handy to have at the end of the season when Arteta was injured and Ramsey was struggling for form.

On a side note, has Denilson been playing all that much for Sao Paulo? Arsenal have done a few reports but it seems like he's not selected or a sub as often as he is a starter.

Denilson was a disaster last year. On his first game, he was sent off. Came back, sent off again. Spent the rest of 2011 on the bench. This year he came back to the first eleven after some good exhibitions in the state championship. Sao Paulo extended the end of the loan until the end of june because he wanted to be part of the Brazilian Cup campaign. Sao Paulo were eliminated in the semis. The club wants him, but the price is too high for brazilian standards.

Fulham boss Martin Jol has made a move for Tottenham’s forgotten winger David Bentley.

Bentley is fighting back after a knee injury suffered on loan at West Ham last season, and Jol wants him either on loan or a cut-price permanent deal.

The former England international, 27, fell out of favour under then-Spurs Harry Redknapp, while a loan to the MLS fell through.
