2013 U.S. Festival Thread

Coachella just announced their 2013 two weekend long line-up. Argurably one of the biggest festivals here and it's the kick-off for festival season. Bonnaroo is just under a month away from announcing their line-up, and then you have Lollapalooza, Pitchfork, SXSW, Fun Fun Fun, VooDoo, etc.

I'm kind of shocked by the headliners for Coachella:

That's amazing and kind of sad, metalman. Especially the one that's all "who the fuck are Blur and the Stone Roses?" I can kind of forgive never hearing of The Stone Roses before, but Blur? Come on.

I am among the people who have no idea who the Stone Roses are. I'm also only vaguely familiar with Blur. They did that wahoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo song, right?

Okay, still no idea who the Stone Roses are. Apparently I've visited Ian Brown's wikipedia page before, but I'm not sure why. Maybe he was on some panel show and I googled him so I would get the jokes?

They're a Madchester band. It was kind of big in the late 80s/early to mid 90s, more so in the UK than in the US. That's not to say that they didn't achieve some measure of popularity in the US - because they did, just not as much as in the UK.

It's an out of left field type of headliner, though. Most people were expecting The Rolling Stones, for whatever reason. I don't think they'll do any festivals in the U.S. this year.

I'm pretty positive Paul McCartney will headline Bonnaroo, also.

Coachella sold out within 15 minutes of tickets being put up for sale. I guess those headliners appeal to a variety of people. Kind of makes me nervous about Bonnaroo's line-up and subsequent ticket tier releases.

I'm planning on being in Austin for the weekend of SxSW. I'm curious to see what I can see on as little money as possible.

You can probably see at least half of the line-up if you really wanted to. Have you seen the line-up? Looking at it now on CoS, it's pretty impressive.

Okay. I get Bjork and B&S. They are very "Pitchfork". But R. Kelly? Is this ironic? Do they actually like him?

They like the Trapped in the Closet series. And I guess his last album or two.
