2013 Summer Transfer Thread

I think we need more work than you'd expect a title winning team to need.

Vidic and Ferdinand are great but creaking. I personally wouldn't trust Phil Jones, or Smalling yet. Evans has been decent but paired with one of the latter two he starts to look suspect again.

Left back as identified is a problem, but I'd rather we bought a young player to develop into replacing Evra than going balls out for a player that will need replacing again in a few years.

Right back and goalkeeper is fine.

Midfield - Carrick is 32. Everyone else is average, Cleverley included.

Wingers - all of them were terrible last season. In a way that's good because they can't be that bad again but I cringe when I see Valencia, Nani or Young is starting a game.

Strikers - well stocked, but if Rooney goes, and Van Persie gets injured, or when he starts to decline we'll be relying on Hernandez and Welbeck which is a little frightening.

I'd like to see us sign some midfielders deep lying and some attacking ones that are better on the ball and don't give it away as much. Against the better teams we struggle to retain possession, which is something I'd rather see us focus on improving.

Didn't Fer fail a medical last time he was going to a Premiership team?

Yup, that was Everton in january, i think.

And then he went on to have a very impressive U21 euros, coming off the bench the first 2 games and scoring in both games.

Seriously?

And Jones and Smalling will never be ready if they don't get a run in the team. Buying another centre back is a ridiculous solution if you want any of them to grown into the role.

Can't see the point of that one if it's true. Baines is 28 I think.

Eh? That means he's in his prime (and he is). You make it sound like he's 35, or that top teams should never sign players who aren't under 23?

I will be seriously gutted if Baines goes, even for £15million+. He's such a big part of the team and the club. Fellaini can go, but not Bainesy :(

My point was that spending big on a left back who's value will only decrease seems mental to me especially when I imagine the 20m being quoted as the asking price is likely a significant chunk of Moyes' budget.

But not every player is bought with the intention of selling him again. If Moyes signs Baines it won't matter if his value will decrease, so long as he gets 5-6 good years of him playing at the top of his game. Which I imagine he would. And even if it's a third of his transfer budget, how many players do you think United are likely to sign? They've just won the title at a canter, they won't be bringing in more than 3 big name players.

Also, I doubt Everton are in for a rough year. Got a good manager in, will have funds to spend on adding to the team and will have even more if any of the key men leave as they will be going for big sums. Baines, Jagielka and Fellaini are the only ones who could go and be a big loss to the team and I highly doubt Jags will be leaving. If Fellaini goes it'll be for £25million too which is easily enough to sign some more good players.

I would lay money right now on Everton making the top 7 again next season...if I had any <_<

I am, massively. The winger and midfield situation keep me awake at night. I'd rather see any money we have spent there.

On a different note. Any one know why Paul Ince offered his resignation? Was it because he hasn't done a good job or something else?

I had no idea Newcastle had Brad Friedel on loan, but he didn't get a work permit back in '94.

The 1993/1994 official team photograph lists Steve Harper as 'Brad Freidel'.

True story.

So Marca says that the only way for Higuain to go, is for him to be part of a deal, whether it is, to Napoli for Cavani, to Spurs for Bale or to Liverpool for Suarez.

Makes zero sense. Especially in the case of Cavani with his release clause - the £22m in cash they would get from selling him to Arsenal would actually be more helpful to them.

Sounds more like general "No really, we have transfer ambitions. We just don't know if any of them are possible yet." noises from Madrid.
