I don't get this. Bale played a really good season, both in England and in Europe. Gets touted as one of the best players in the world. He has a large contract. Real Madrid have a lot of money, and meet Spurs valuation of him (whether that is a true valuation of him or not). Bale never asked for a transfer (thus lowering the price) and nor did he have limited time left on his contract (thus lowering his price).

I just think it is a sign of the times more than Levy 'playing a blinder'. Everybody has their price, and if a team can stump up the money, anyone can move. Where he has done well is where he has invested the money before selling Bale. That is the best part of what he did, so he isn't scrabbling around for 24 hours with teams aware of the money he has to throw around.
