  1. I honestly don't hate bands very often, but I really do hate Weezer. It's almost like they want to make bad music. They've spent the last 5 years completely shitting on the legacy they had. I can't even listen to the Blue Album anymore.
  2. I think I've been scared by maybe one or two movies in my entire life, and I watch a lot of horror movies. Paranormal Activity wasn't scary in my mind outside of the ending, however, I remember feeling incredibly tense watching the entire movie. It was very unsettling. It truly was fan-dabi-dozi cinema and ranks among some of the other modern day horror classics - Saw, Blair Witch & Scream - as movies that will continue to gain a reputation of being tremendously scary. But like the aforementioned movies, no sequel will even come close to being as scary as the original.
  3. The Biggest Loser. It's just awful television. I love trashy reality shows and competition reality shows, but it seems to take the worst of both worlds and just throws them together.
  4. 4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIXhg93cWjU - D.A.N.C.E 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8md51JnCNFQ - Where's Your Head At? 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7p4mioawIA - Cry Me A River 1. - Fell In Love With A Girl In my opinion, the four best videos on this decade. D.A.N.C.E because of how it totally compliments the song, Where's Your Head At? because it's a complete mind fuck, Cry Me A River because it's a music video with a story that's actually compelling and Fell In Love because... well... it doesn't need justification its just amazing.
  5. Sorry, a bit tired, so if I'm not making complete sense it's that and the alcohol. But when Kanye has done it in the past he didn't have everyone in America talking about it. People only care because he did it to Taylor Swift, the all-american girl. I know that argument is completely flawed and not entirely able to prove, but I think that it is an aspect of the intense media scrutiny. And if someone didn't come around and say something contrary, discussion would be a bit boring, wouldn't it? I'm not saying these are my views, just nice to have someone speak up and try and pose contrary view points. Yeah, I guess hypocritical was the wrong word to choose; but I do disagree, I don't think if he did it to Pink or DMB it'd warrant the same kind of attention as if he did it to Taylor Swift... but agree to disagree. I just think that people are making a huge issue out of nothing really here, when he has done it in the past and in worst contexts. I just think all the backlash and attention isn't warranted at all, but it's how the industry and the media work. He stole the spotlight from a nice pretty blonde white teenage country girl who sold millions of records; obviously the media is going jump all over it and go crazy with it. Ok, but that's an entirely different story... that's one celebrity physically attacking another celebrity live on television. If she had stood there and done nothing like Swift, I don't think there would be half of the reaction that happened after.
  6. I really, REALLY cannot disagree more strongly with anyone trying to make this a racial thing at all. For one, pretty much no one here likes Taylor Swift. Two, no matter who he interrupted, it was still a jackass move to interrupt someone when they won an award. Yes, it's a meaningless fluff award, but they still won something and it's still douchey in the extreme to ruin their moment like that. Three, see point one again, it bears repeating. Four, Kanye West is pretty much a habitual attention whore, so no, this "outcry" that you are seeing is not because the big bad black man got all uppity in front of his white masa's children. It's because some tool got up on stage and tried to steal the spotlight. Doesn't matter who it was from, guy is still a selfish asshole. Five... unrelated, but did you really try and imply that he was kind of right that Beyonce's "Single Ladies" is the greatest music video of all time? I'm not trying to imply that in any way the reaction against Kanye West was racist (ie, he is black), but that everyone is up in arms to protect an All-American girl is all I was saying. 1) I actually do like Taylor Swift. 2 & 3) While that's great that you have that opinion, I'm saying it's completely hypocritical for everyone to get pissed off over this when he has done it before and for more selfish reasons. Just more people care because he did it to Taylor Swift than in other instances. 4) As I said before, I wasn't implying that anyone was holding this against Kanye West because he was black, simply implying that people were more likely to jump up to defend the Taylor Swift, who embodies the good old American girl. I know that's how my comments could have come across, but it's not how I meant them. People would jump all over Kanye West even if he was some old white dude... if it was Pink or Dave Matthew's Group or someone else, no one would care. 5) I don't think that Beyonce's video is the greatest of all time and don't know where it says that in my post anywhere. Besides, even if it was the greatest music video ever, doesn't mean she'd deserve the award anyway. Wasn't it decided by a public vote?
  7. Kind of a moot point given that only a famous person was going to be in that situation to begin with. I meant a lesser known artist or band... kinda like if he had done it if Justice had won, or something to that extent. They certainly wouldn't be talking about it on The View and President Obama wouldn't be asked his opinion.
  8. A few things: A) Is anyone really surprised by this? It's Kanye West. This is his thing. B) This isn't even that bad. He interrupted Justice & Simian to say that HE should have won the award in 2006 at the Euro VMA's. At least this time he was nice enough to say someone else deserved this award. And he was kinda right. C) Off that point, would anyone really care if it was someone who wasn't famous? Everyone is overreacting because the white innocent country-girl teenager was interrupted and someone took her spotlight away. D) I love the self-centered celebrities who are outraged... how dare someone interrupt an award ceremony? What a crock of shit.
  9. Most played: Hercules & Love Affair - Blind Lady GaGa - Just Dance Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks David Guetta - One Love Least played Calvin Harris - his entire new album Sufjan Stevens - Chicago Kid Cudi - Make Her Say Those are the three songs/albums that haven't gotten played by me at all.
  10. Been listening to Paris Hilton, Radiohead and David Guetta a lot lately. Random, I know.
  11. Ripped directly from last.fm, which just takes the most listened to bands over the last 12 month period. 1. Hercules and Love Affair 2. Antony and the Johnsons 3. Kanye West 4. Michael Jackson 5. M.I.A. 6. Of Montreal 7. Peaches 8. Grizzly Bear 9. Daft Punk 10. Lady GaGa 2008 1. Daft Punk 2. Blur 3. M.I.A 4. The Clash 5. Justice 6. Rufus Wainwright 7. Of Montreal 8. Hercules & Love Affair 9. Nine Inch Nails 10. Hot Chip 2007 1. Bloc Party 2. Blur 3. Justin Timberlake 4. The Format 5. Kanye West 6. Daft Punk 7. M.I.A 8. My Chemical Romance 9. Final Fantasy 10. Babyshambles
  12. Been listening to the Format nonstop. Best music to listen to you when your life goes to absolute shit!
  13. Been listening to a lot of Air lately - Moon Safari and Talkie Walkie. Thinking about getting into their other stuff, but have heard hit or miss stories about it. I absolutely love both of their albums, so it probably goes without saying that I'll love their other shit, but still...
  14. I downloaded the Grizzly Bear album when it came out and gave it a few spins. However recently, I've been listening to it nonstop. The last month, their album is all I can listen to. At first I found it incredibly boring, but it's got so much depth and versatility. It's a record that really does grow upon multiple listens... and in my view, has three classic points to it. Starts off strong and hits Two Weeks. Than we get some down time and we get Ready, Able. Brilliant fucking song. We get some more great songs and than While You Wait For The Others bring it back to classic territory. So good. Nico is amazing... it's funny because my top two records of the year had arrangements done by him. Fucking guy can do anything.

That's just the shit I have on my dinky 2 gig ipod... tried to give you some songs...
  16. I've been downloading all the leaked tracks from the Simian Mobile Disco album and I have to say... excellence.
  17. I had never hard of La Roux until reading this thread. Needless to say, I was fucking pleasantly surprised. I wish I had known about these guys earlier... so fucking good. Peaches new CD is actually more in line with Simian Mobile Disco (they produced 2 or 3 tracks) and Soulwax (ditto) than her older stuff. Less sexual, less aggressive and yet still so very Peaches. One of the best albums of the year in my view.
  18. Gigs: Girl Talk (on Sunday), Yeah Yeah Yeahs (the next Sunday), Passion Pit (August) and Britney Spears/Ciara (August). Going to see Britney Spears with the partner, so I'm necessarily looking forward to it, but more intrigued. CDS: Basement Jaxx, Simian Mobile Disco, Hercules and Love Affair, Arctic Monkeys, Air, Vitalic... lots of other new shit, but too much to list...
  19. Will & Grace falls into that category of sitcoms shouldn't last longer than 5 seasons. By the end, it was just random celebrity cameos and nonsensical storylines. Lost really has gone on too long. The premise of the show is lots of twists and turns... but when this goes on for so many seasons it becomes so confusing and drawn out that it becomes obnoxious. Should have ended it after season 3 and explained things...
  20. The reason I say uniformed is because to even try and say the guy didn't have an impact outside of the music business is insane. Look at how many people were inspired by the guy - as I stated earlier, fashion designers were inspired by Michael Jackson, dancers were inspired by Michael Jackson, actors were inspired by Michael Jackson, even wrestlers were twittering about Michael Jackson and the affect he had on their lives. I mean, that alone that he managed to span across so many different mediums and affect and influence so many different people - not necessarily in a direct way (aka, people wearing military jackets), but in a way that inspired and influenced people. I mean, we could sit here and pin point all the direct influences Michael Jackson had over the world, but I think that it's much easier to simply say "look at how many people said they wouldn't be doing what they were doing if it wasn't for Michael Jackson..." Obviously there is no proof, outside of the dozens and dozens of journalist, entertainers and academics who have stated that he did. Michael Jackson was able to kick down walls in the entertainment business for black people. I'm not even really going to address your other point, because I think it's fairly obvious to me (and most other people) that MJ DID indeed play a substantial role in helping black entertainers and their visibility. I use the word entertainers on purpose because this isn't just about music, its spanned the entire entertainment business. As I said before, I understand that a lot of people hated Invincible. I think it was a bit overly long and obviously not Michael Jackson's finest work. Obviously I'm in the minority as well, because I think Dangerous is by far his best work. I can't really sit here and argue with you about your thoughts on his music, because that is why they are... your thoughts (although I take issue with you calling Black or White a ballad... clearly not a ballad ). I am not the biggest fan of Michael Jackson's ballads (heck, I'm not a fan of ballads in general...) but I still enjoy them and think that MJ was an amazing entertainer, even when he wasn't doing something that was my thing. I didn't mean to come across as a jerk, because clearly you have some reasoning behind what you are saying and you are completely entitled to your belief... I just disagree with it. I think your acknowledgement that MJ was an important pop figure shows that you are levelheaded, I just think that MJ went above and beyond being someone who just wrote and sung songs... the guy represented something far more to an entire generation of people. But eh, everyone's entitled to their opinion.
  21. Ummmmmm. Michael Jackson accomplished a lot outside of the music business. The guy is a pop icon - he influenced entertainers in every realm (from television, to acting, to music, to dance, to fashion, heck even to wrestling). The guy has had a tremendous impact beyond being some guy who sang. I think to argue otherwise is to be blunt, completely uninformed. Between 1983-1984, everyone wanted to be MJ ... whether you were a singer, an athlete, or some regular joe. The guy also played a huge role in racial politics in the entertainment business. I know people will say he bleached his skin (which is untrue), but the guy clearly made it a lot easier for black people to be successful in the entertainment business. I'd love to hear which of these songs are terrible? I know I'm biased because I am clearly a huge MJ fan, but the guy really only had one misstep - Invincible - and even than it wasn't a huge critical or commericial flop - it sold over 10 million and many stated that while it wasn't bad, it just didn't stack up against his earlier work. And heck, I even think Invincible is a great album if you just accept that it's a tad long.
  22. Amazing tribute. I am with everyone who was tearing up during his daughter's speech. Just hit home that behind the entertainer and the public persona was a real person, with real family and friends. I'm still sad that the guy is gone... what a freaking icon. http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/rememb...003991737.story He still rules the charts. I think that it's incredibly unfortunate that MJ passed away, but I'm relieved to see that people are downloading and listening to him. In death, he seems to have regained a lot of relevance ... the guy has 12 of the top 25 digital songs and had the two best selling albums of the week, as well as the top 10 spots on the Catalog Album Charts. Fucking amazing.
  23. Rock The Clash - London Calling (1979) Brilliant from top to bottom. I'm not a fan of older albums, but this is hands down one of the best albums of all time. Blur - 13 (1999), Think Tank (2003), Parklife (1994) Three classic albums by the same band, each with a different and distinct sound, but each is just as the good as the one before it. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? (2006) Amazing album. Kevin Barnes truly is original and one of the true innovators making music these days. The Past is a Grotesque Animal is one of the most amazing songs ever. Soft Antony & The Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now (2005) & The Crying Light (2009) The guy just speaks to me on so many levels... it's weird. I don't think I've ever cried before listening to music before I listened to Antony... Broken Social Scene – You Forgot It In People (2002) In 2002, I was a kid who liked punk music and the louder the better. Broken Social Scene taught me how to apperciate and love other types of music. Without BSS, I'd probably be listening to the same music as before. Elliott Smith - Figure 8 (2000) This is one of my favorite albums - the only Elliott Smith album I own on vinyl - but after someone in my family attempted suicide it became a bit too hard to listen to him. That's how powerful Smith's voice, lyrics and music is. So hauntingly beautiful. Dance M.I.A. - Kala (2007) & Arular (2005) I love M.I.A. and make it known that I think she is the most brilliant person making music these days. Both of her albums in my opinion are full-fledged classics and I haven't stopped spinning them yet. Hercules & Love Affair - Hercules & Love Affair (2008) I've had last.fm for three years. Hercules and Love Affair released their only album one year ago. They are my sixth most listened to band and the most listened to album. I think its evident I love these guys. Daft Punk - Discovery (2001) & Homework (1997) Like BSS, without Daft Punk I wouldn't like other types of music. It opened my mind and my ears to new sounds and to new types of music. So good.
  24. Last night, went to a friends house for a dinner party. Basically turned into a Michael Jackson lovefest. A few people there had only really heard Thriller and didn't know about all of his other greatness... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VASYhabHkM In my opinion, nothing that has come since even comes close to meeting this moment. Its like watching Elvis Presley or the Beatles. It basically sums up that until someone else comes around that is as talented, we'll have a huge gap in the music world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZI9OYMRwN1Q Another one of my favorite M&J videos. So trademark Michael Jackson. Say what you will about him, but he is so original and unique. I think this video, Black of White, pretty much summarises this fact. His video, his music, his videos... all so MJ. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5KAJw4y8wE Another great song, but also a little bit prophetic. I know at the time his personal life was gaining considerable scrutiny, but I mean ... the chorus of this song is just so telling. Another great song by MJ. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cupnsUDyjuA My favorite Michael Jackson song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDxsM5jLNxM Trademark Jackson big budget, over the top video. What not to love? Great song as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3wShd_bX8A Same as above. I know his later work gets a lot of flack from some, but I think its pretty damn good... nothing will top his early work, but come on. And so theatrical and over the top...
  25. Seriously, I know I love the guy and all so I'm a bit biased, but these jokes aren't offensive or funny. Just really really really stupid jokes...
