    2010 Year end lists

Nice list Trisof. I wasn't such a huge fan of Salem, but it's still growing on me. I just think I need to get really blazed and listen to the thing.
  2. I don't agree with this at all. The fact he was still doing experiments, still giving updates, still chugging along indicated to me there was a chance for a cure/survival. What fucked them over was running out of juice and the explosion. Also, I am saying this having not read the comics. Perhaps the problem (for some) is that you guys have read the comics and have preconceived notions about what is going on and where the story is going. Having not read the comics and/or spoilers, I can tell you that the ending was kick ass in my mind. The only two things that maybe were lacking was no mention of Merle and no connection with Morgan. However, it was six episodes and they did a lot with the six episodes they had. Maybe if this was a half season of 12 episodes I'd be a bit upset, but they can't work magic. Also, it's under the assumption that the writers have any plans in bringing the characters back. Maybe they do, maybe they don't.

    BBC Sound of 2011

    James Blake is amazing.
  4. Peer pressure folks. Like the show or else.
  5. I don't understand how anyone can say there wasn't a big ending to the season. It was revealed to the audience that the hope for mankind is basically lost and in the shitter. I'd say that's a great way to end the season, because leaves us with so many questions: mainly, how the fuck are these people gonna keep going forward.

Kanye West: fantastic album from head to toe. Production is great, lyrics are stellar, total package. M.I.A: Hated this album when it was released, but it grew on me fast. Loud, hard and rough in all the right ways. Beach House: Heard Silver Soul and fell in love. Beautifully crafted summer album. Gorillaz: amazing pop album. Lots of twists, turns and genres included. Great stuff. Sleigh Bells: best debut of the year. Great introduction and I can't wait to see what they crank out next. Kelis: the best mainstream dance album in years. Kelis isn't afraid to experiment Gil Scott Heron: just a really great, interesting listen. Bit short. Hot Chip: 7 great to amazing songs, 3 average songs. Could have been a classic but didn't go the extra mile. Yeasayer: very weird. Best description I heard about them - Rihanna gone experimental. Kid Cudi: weird, self indulgent, hollow mess, but I still love it.
  7. Eminem's songs visit the same 3 or 4 themes. Funny celebrity/juvenile songs, songs about domestic abuse and songs about his issues with the media and fame. It doesn't matter about how well he raps if it is the same shit over and over and over again.
  8. 10.0 from p4k is hilarious and I love that the review has retconned the universally panned 808's as a necessary step rather than a falling-off point (I don't really know that it's either). I can list a handful of albums I liked from this year much more than I've been into this record so far, and on 12/14(?) when Apollo Kids drops, there might not be a case for Fantasy even as best hip hop record of 2010. I think 808's was shit on when it first came out, but I think people let it sit and have grown to like the album. It appeared on quite of few year end lists and decade end list. I know I personally loved the album when it came out and have only grown to like it more and more.
  9. Devil in a New Dress has been growing on me. I loved it when it was released as a GOOD Friday track. I love that fucking guitar solo, distortion and than the Rick Ross verse. Fucking epic shit right there. And it's got the line that sums it all up; "hard to be humble when your stuntin on a jumbotron."
  10. Really, the only song I dislike is So Appalled, and I don't really dislike it, I just don't think it stacks up in comparison. Hands down the best three songs are Power, Runaway and Lost In the World, but everything else is top notch.
  11. Yeah anyone who hates on that verse Nicki Minaj did on Monster is insane. Especially if you are gonna not mention how Jay Z sounds like an old geezer on the track.
  12. I really really really like the television, but two things: 1) I don't want this to end up like Lost and True Blood where they take so much on that it's overwhelming. It's the type of television that lends itself to being so overwhelming and over the top that it loses all suspension of disbelief. So far, really good. Just don't put too much on the plate. 2) Some of it borders on cliche. Not that it's bad, it just makes me roll my eyes some time. Horror in general is a genre that really hinges on walking a fine line between cliche and homage.
  13. Kanye West's new album is coming out in 2 weeks and just leaked to the internet. Some of the songs have been floating around, but now we've got the full album on the internet. Having heard the album, it's incredibly good and hopefully will stand alongside his earlier work. The three singles available - Power, Monster and Runaway - are 3 of the best Kanye songs.
  14. The Social Network 10/10 Go and see it. It's great.
  15. Wow. EWB's taste really leans towards people who are alive and male centered. Seriously, out of the last 5 or 6 lists posted only two of them had women in them and one of those only had one... 1. Charlie Chaplin 2. Judy Garland 3. Meryl Streep 4. Harrison Ford 5. Audrey Hepburn 6. Philip Seymour Hoffman 7. Bill Murray 8. Juliana Moore 9. Brad Pitt 10. Kate Winslet Chaplin's best performance was the Tramp in City Lights. Garland's best performance was Dorothy in Oz. Streep's best performance was in Adaptation as Susan Orlean. Ford's best performance was in the Star Wars Trilogy as Hans Solo. Hepburn's best performance was Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Hoffman's best performance was Phil Pharma in Magnolia. Murray's best performance was Herman Blume in Rushmore. Moore's best performance was Charlotte in A Single Man Pitt's best performance was Chad Feldheimer in Burn After Reading. Winslet's best performance was Clementine Kruczynski in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
  16. This would all be fine and well if Lady Gaga didn't make all of these other factors like fashion and music videos and absurd statements just as (if not more) important than the music. Sure, the music is popular, but Lady Gaga is where she is because she's gone out of her way to make it more than just a song and made it into this weird spectacle. That's always going to be a part of being a pop star - but Lady Gaga simply made the scrutinies worse because she took it so far over the top.
  17. My only problem with Lady Gaga is the hype. People treat her as though is far more than just some woman singing catchy songs and that she is the most original thing to come around since Madonna. Kelis, La Roux, Robyn, Gwen Stefani, Shakira, Kylie Minogue are all female dance pop artists I'd take over Lady Gaga any day. I'll admit to being a Gaga addict before, but the hype faded for me when I realized there was hundreds of more interesting people making more interesting music sans the dumb costumes. Isn't Lady Gaga just piggy backing on what Gwen Stefani did 4 years ago, just with crazier outfits and more over the top videos? Emphasis on strong visual elements, blonde woman with an acute sense for fashion singing mainstream dance pop songs about fame and glamor?...
  18. There wasn't a gay person present when they made this...
  19. I don't think that's entirely true. It's a bit of a head scratcher, but let's not forget two of the people who dominated challenges in the past - Tom from Palau and Terry from Panama - were both over 40. And often times I find the older characters a bit more entertaining...

Agreed on Arcade Fire. Loved Funeral, hated Neon Bible and really like The Suburbs. First 4 tracks are unstoppable and massive.

  22. Gary Hogeboom, former NFL QB, was also on Survivor Guatemala and he didn't tell anyone. Someone called him out in private and he denied it. If I recall, he fessed to it at the live reunion show.
  23. That was actually made in Ottawa and a number of my friend's helped out with the film. Hilariously enough, my first year film professor plays one of the cross dressers in the movie. Exit Through the Gift Shop 10/10 Part-art documentary, part-Borat, part-Adaptation, this is truly one of the best films I've seen in quite some time. It's essentially three films within one: a documentary on Banksy, a documentary on Guetta the film maker and a "documentary" on Guetta the artist, aka Mr. Brain Wash. It's funny, insightful and confronts the societies fascination and consumption of art. The feature on Guetta the artist has so many layers to it - is it real or a hoax? is he a genius, an idiot, or both who just succeeded? is he really an artist or just a hack?
