My general annoyance with VAR, issues like this aside, is the way it takes some of the "in the moment" excitement out of the game. Most of the time when I see a goal scored or a penalty awarded, I'm waiting for the inevitable VAR check. It makes crowd celebrations feel a bit more muted as many fans probably go through the same thought process.

I sometimes wish I didn't like football because there are so many incidents like this. I know it's a small minority, but it seems as if it's at least somebody almost every week celebrating the deaths of opposing fans or players.

New Zealand will probably be annoyed at conceding two tries against Italy, but scoring 96 of their own points softens the blow extremely well.

I tried out the free demo of The Lamplighters League and enjoyed it. The reviews are all saying that the game is packed full of technical issues at launch, which is sad because I think it's a very solid concept in and of itself. Maybe it will be one to keep an eye on for later.

I've found over the years that you just have to appreciate stability at your club when it's there. It really doesn't take much for things to all go downhill, and there aren't that many clubs you'd say are "immune" to it, i.e. famous enough to reliably attract new buyers at any given time.

Scunthorpe's owner has decided to withdraw all funding and is looking to sell the club. After this Saturday, they will play their home games in Gainsborough. I hope I'm wrong, but I think this is the beginning of the end for them.

Jim Ryan is retiring in March. I never really rated him, so I hope his replacement is better.

Eddie Jones was one of the best coaches around for about twenty years. It's hard to believe what's happened to him since the last World Cup.

I hope this doesn't do too much damage to Sheffield United's morale. Before today, they hadn't lost a match this season by more than one goal.

I remember when Newcastle beat Sheffield Wednesday 8-0 in the Premier League. 24 years on, they're doing the same thing to another Sheffield team.

That must have passed me by somehow. I'm now glad that Forest are no longer on the wrong side of that record. Newcastle could match that with another goal now, though.

Disc swapping is very much a thing of the past because even disc-based games are just installed to the internal storage of modern consoles. The disc is just a file installation device and a means for the console to check you own the game legitimately.
