    Random Music Thoughts

Last night I discovered that the Irish folk song Back Home In Derry by Christy Moore is musically just Gordon Lightfoot's The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. And Gordon Lightfoot didn't really care because folk music is full of people lifting tunes from other songs.
  2. I bring up those names because there's a sense that you should never go home about them. Solskjear and Lampard shouldn't have been let near their former clubs as managers but they felt like good stories. But the fact it felt more like a good story than anything else made me wary of Alonso coming back to Liverpool as manager. Even if he's likely to be a better manager than any of them it still feels like the idea of it was the most attractive thing. Alonso is better off staying where he is a bit longer. At least an Amorim or a De Zerbi can come in and fail and it's not the ex-Liverpool player Xabi Alonso failing at Liverpool.
  3. To me, it always felt a bit of a leap for him to go from his first season in his first top flight job to replacing Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool. It just gave me Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, and Ole Gunner Solskjaer vibes. Albeit, Alonso's managing at a higher level than any of those were before getting the managers job at their old clubs. Of course, it has worked out before and Liverpool did well in recruiting managers from ex players and coaches in the 70s and 80s. Not so much in the 90s though. It would also have been a crappy move to pull on Leverkusen.
  4. and even at that, Man City is a different case relating to sponsorship revenue, not transfers. It's going to be easier to say "Nottingham Forest overspent when they signed Jonjo Shelvey and breached the spending rules" than sort 126 charges against Man City which is going to take years. In an ideal world, these cases will prove the testing ground for what eventually may happen to City.
  5. I'd call it shit happening. You can't win every game. Sometimes you have bad days. That's just the way it goes. I mean in the sense that the FA Cup is not as important. From a pure prize money perspective, you get more for reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League than you do from winning the FA Cup. It's nice to get far in the FA Cup but the Europa League and the Premier League as more important. The Europa is very winnable for Liverpool. The FA Cup will probably be won by Man City at this point. And maybe Man City playing more games is good for Liverpool's league chances. Probably not but you never know. *shrug*
  6. don't really like the term "bottling" to be honest Liverpool didn't take their chances and the players looked a bit tired towards the end of the game. we can talk about how bad Man Utd are now but naturally, they're going to raise their game against Liverpool, who've just played their third game in a week, and this one is probably the less important one of the three.
  7. Liverpool didn't do enough to kill this game off.
  8. At least it would be better than watching Hogan v Flair on the Hulkamania Tour.
  9. Dublin expensive and a bit crap should put most people off.
  10. I watched this as David Lynch would have intended (on my smart phone while eating dinner). Loved how you shot her almost totally in wide shots. Loved the use of lighting which was natural-looking but also very designed. There's a level of expressionism there that is really drives the emotion of the story. I'd have to re-watch but there's a lighting change in the scene where she's cooking and it felt like the sun moving, possibly a car, but also like time passing but just show through a subtle lighting change. In a strange way, I was almost sad that I saw the faces of the other characters but it made sense in the way they were used. Honestly, whenever you pop in with one of your films I just enjoy looking at them.
  11. In my day, head of football was a thing Naill Quinn did to score goals.
  12. Liverpool's former Sporting Director Michael Edwards is set to return to the club as Head of Football (whatever that means).
  13. Gotta say it was really great day for Quansah, Bradley, and Kelleher.
  14. Not at all especially as City and Arsenal still have to play each other
  15. Liverpool should have won that. But given the starting 11, Id have taken a draw before the game.
  16. Pretty much akin to the Origi vs Barca goal. Caught Liverpool not switched on.
  17. I'd reckon Salah, Gakpo and Robertson are going to be on 2nd half. And that'll make Liverpool stronger and sharper up front.
  18. The Liverpool lineup for the City game includes Bradley, Quansah, and Endo starting. Which is a bit of a concern.
  19. He is from Cork though. ...But to an American that might be charming
  20. I hope harry said that out the driver window of his car
  21. Or, indeed, Sean Cox who was also attacked by a Roma fan.
  22. According to Somerton's former co writer
  23. the annoying part of this is seeing people being horrendously online about it and making it about "breadtube" and/or Hbomberguy/Hbomberguy's fans "harassing a man to death" or any other number of takes. I first heard this about 4 or 5 hours ago now and news hasn't really moved since. I'm hoping he's fine, gets help, gives up on trying to make youtube videos.
  24. Oh, it's Liverpool vs Man City next week ...that'll be fun
