  1. Maldonado's a solid boxer, and one of the few who makes heavy use of body punching. It's hard not to be a fan.
  2. They offered it to Maldonado, but he declined. Unless Leben steps up, the best idea I've heard thrown around is just to scrap Franklin off the card altogether and move Hamill/Gustafsson up to the main card, and maybe set up Machida/Franklin in the fall.
  3. UFC 133 is just fucking cursed, now Lil Nog's pulled out with an injury.
  4. Cro Cop/Nelson and Kongo/Mitrione added to UFC 137. Between those two, GSP/Diaz, Penn/Condit and Hioki/Roop, that card is starting to look damn good. Oh, and speaking of Matyushenko: he's out, Matt Hamill is in against Alexander Gustafsson for UFC 133. So, good thing Vlad didn't step in for Davis if he was just going to go ahead and get hurt himself. And I'm not sure if this should go here or in the other thread, but Kazuo Misaki - he of the FOTY war with Jorge Santiago - has signed with Strikeforce. Turns out that's the big-time Welterweight Coker brought up last week. Just going to leave this here: Jesus christ, BJ. There's being good, and then there's just being a dick.
  5. Harrison'll look good in Cardinal red. (Y) >_<
  6. Off Mike Chiappetta's twitter. If Machida/Evans goes through, I think that's an infinitely more interesting and relevant main event than Davis/Evans. Either Machida or Evans would have legitimate claims at getting the champion, whether it's Jon Jones or Rampage, and there would be some pre-built heat between any of the pairings but Jones/Machida. But then, Machida is the guy everybody seems to like as Jones's foil, so there'd definitely be interest in that one, too.
  7. lol, was Pacman arrested for being drunk in a bar?
  8. But she's the mother of his child!! Yeah, she's a cunt.
  9. Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop is official for UFC 137. Hioki takes this easy, I think. But does this mean Florian/Aldo is all but official? Lame.
  10. So, Torchwood: Miracle Day. The first episode was.. eh, not very good. The script felt really repetitive and crammed, similar to this last season's opening to Doctor Who, only without the style, pizazz or skill on the writing front to get away with it. There were enough interesting ideas that, once the show gives it's storyline and characters some time to breath, it should get a lot better. I hope it does, anyways. The world needs more Jack Harkness. (Y)
  11. Yeah. Welterweight in particular stands out as a division where a bunch of the top guys all go to the same camps - Jackson's has GSP, Sanchez and Condit, AKA has Koscheck, Fitch and I think Rumble also goes there, and then there's Shields and Diaz with Gracie. And I'm sure I'm forgetting some guys.
  12. Wasn't this reported months ago? Seems like a pointless match, Sanchez should be fighting a fellow possible contender, not somebody irrelevant to the division's standings. Hopefully if he wins, we can get Sanchez/Condit out of this, though.. Make it 5 rounds, just for increased insanity. This. Hopefully Sanchez will beat Hughes cause a fight with Condit would be a really good and entertaining fight. Plus it'd make sense in terms of rankings in the division. With Fitch likely to fight BJ again and Shields/Ellenberger, I think Condit VS the winner of Hughes/Sanchez would be good. If Rick Story didn't lose then I would say have Condit/Story. Yeah, Condit/Story could have even worked as a contender's match-up depending on how dominant Story's victory would have been. The only wrench I see in Condit/Diego is that they're both from Jackson's, but I distinctly remember Condit going on the record as saying he would face a teammate if it was a title-relevant match (which makes sense, seeing as GSP is also from Jackson's >_>). Hopefully that extends to contender fights, and not strictly title matches.

  14. I don't see how Stann can handle Sonnen's wrestling, unfortunately, but I'd like to be proven wrong. It'd be nice for Silva to get somebody fresh to murder.
  15. woot, Bellator is coming to my hometown on the 16th of April. http://www.mmamania.com/2011/3/24/2070204/bellator-41-official-for-april-16-at-the-cocopah-resort-and-casino-in Reis/Pitbull should be great, and Warren's undoubtedly UFC-bound if he continues to develop. Can't wait.
  16. I've never bothered with the webisodes (or whatever this was), but that's pretty great.
  17. Shit, no way? This better make it to a second season; when has a down-on-your-luck boxing story ever not had mass appeal, especially when done as well as this one? Well, it won't. They announced today that they won't renew it for a second season. Die in a fire, FX. On an unrelated note, that new Sherlock show is great. Sucks that they're only doing three-episode seasons, though. =\
  18. Depth isn't about just quantity, but quality as well. The difference between the Velasquez/Lesnar/JDS/Carwin/Mir/Nelson tier and everybody else isn't even close. Rothwell, Struve and Schaub are getting there (as are Corvin and Mitrione, I guess), but Carwin knocking either of the five the fuck out does nothing for anybody, and everybody in the main tier is pre-occupied. In wrestling terms, there's no midcard in the heavyweight division for the upper echelon guys to fight when they're not fighting each other (at least not in a meaningful match); hence, no depth. So, might as well give him a sacrificial lamb that means close to nothing to them (but might have a jiu-jitsu's chance in hell!) than one of the prospects they hope can make it big.
  19. Pretty much this. I guess they figured they NEED to get Carwin a fight since he's been out of action for about a year, and don't feel like feeding him anybody that they're trying to build up/everybody else is booked up. Comes with the territory of having a division without any type of depth whatsoever.
  20. Ouch. What happened to Feb/March 2012, or is that just for the majority of the new deals signed (Melendez, Diaz, etc.)?
  21. Spun, SLC Punk, Brick and Party Monster are all varying degrees of awesome. Daybreakers? Eh, not so much.
  22. Reem/Velasquez. Bring it. Jacare is another one I'm dying to see in the UFC. He will grapple-fuck and sub his way to Anderson Silva (and then not fight him because they're from the same camp, lolz). Oh, and Melendez. Dude is young, talented, Mexican AND marketable. Cha-ching!
