  1. If you get a chance, everybody needs to watch the Scientology documentary called "Going Clear." It is a fascinating look behind the "church" and how they actually do business. It's on HBO and HBO Go right now.
  2. Joe Flacco, Phillip Rivers and Eli Manning all have never missed a game since they took over as starting QBs. Eli's streak is over seasons, Rivers is at 9 and Flacco is at 7. And then like one-third of the league (approximately) started 3 quarterbacks last year. Crazy.
  3. After the last episode, only Wynn is going to be left standing. If the Justified universe existed inside The Walking Dead...Wynn would be living pretty inside his RV as people are being eaten inside Terminus.
  4. But the goal of the angry social media mob is to end people's careers and ruin their lives. Remember that PR consultant who made a dumb joke and got on a plane to South Africa and by the time she landed her life was ruined? The internet demands scalps.
  5. So, he has some "interesting" about Jews, women and especially fat women http://www.buzzfeed.com/jaimieetkin/some-old-tweets-are-getting-trevor-noah-in-trouble-already#.lqyJwX05b
  6. Most of the characters are inspired by real people and real events that David Simon experienced as crime reporter for the Baltimore Sun and made appearances in the show. The wiretap case from season 1 was based on a case that Ed Norris worked in the 80s, that's why they were using pagers in 2002. Ed Norris, who plays Det. Ed Norris in a minor recurring role, was actually commissioner of the BPD and went onto become Superintendent of the Maryland State Police. He had to resign after pleading guilty to corruption charges. He states that only resigned because he falsified his income on a mortgage application, the "head shot" that Lester Freamon used to get Clay Davis to be an informant in Season 5. Conviction on the mortgage fraud charge could have gotten him up to 30 years in federal prison, so he instead pleaded guilty to other charges and spent 6 months in prison. Clay Davis is said to be based on former Maryland state Sen. Larry Young, who was expelled from the Maryland Senate for corruption but was later acquitted at trial. Hunter appeared in Season 5 as a talk radio host interviewing Davis before he went on trial. The Deacon character is portrayed by Melvin Williams. Williams is a major inspiration for the Avon Barksdale character and was arrested by Burns in 1984 and his trial was covered by Simon. Snoop Pearson essentially is playing herself. She's a former drug dealer and was convicted of second-degree murder at the age of 14 and spent 6 and a half years in prison. Brother Mouzone's personal assistant, Lamar, was played Deandre McCullough, who the main character in David Simon's book "The Corner." McCullough was a drug dealer and addict and spent time in prison and eventually was found dead of a heroin overdose in Baltimore at the same time there were warrants out for his arrest in two armed robberies. Plus, the "Hamsterdam" experiment was apparently really tried by Kurt Schmoke, who was Mayor of Baltimore in the 80s, and he had cameos in Season 3 advocating to Royce to keep Hamsterdam running.
  7. Given that in eight weeks Mad Men will be gone and Breaking Bad is gone, I imagine that AMC will eventually just morph into nothing but "TWD" inspired series include a prequel series of Dale traveling the country in his RV. Which I would watch
  8. I liked Godzilla but the way it was marketed with who was actually the star I think pissed a lot of people off
  9. I don't even need to know the premise of Billions, I'm sold on that pair alone. Also, excellent news for X-Files. I'm glad they're only doing six episodes for now, I feel like that'll really work for some interconnected episodes. The pair sold me on the show as well. But apparently the show is being run by the guys who did "Too Big Too Fail" which was a great TV movie ...and from the "Because NBC has to show something other than 'The Voice' and 'The Blacklist'," files... Coach is coming back with Craig T. Nelson starring I just hope we get one more Bill Fagerbakke saying "Hey, Coach..."
  10. It garnered more points in voting. That's a quite simple explanation, really.
  11. Selma was good but the way film makers just decided to alter the story to fit a narrative bothers me. I know it happens in movies all the time but it really diminishes the work that Lyndon Johnson did on Civil Rights and forgets that Johnson's mastery of Senate procedure from his days as Senate Majority Leader is what helped get that bill to be signed into law. Plus, I love Tom Wilkinson but he just decided he was going portray LBJ as an old British guy really took me out of his performance. It's a very good movie but I think 16th is a good spot for it, middle of the road.
  12. The Edge of Tomorrow is way better than I thought it had any right to be. If Tom Cruise hadn't of been in so may crappy sic-fi movies lately, it would have done a lot better. Plus, it's the best Emily Blunt has been in anything in forever. Foxcatcher being so low is sad because it was such a great movie and featured just so many great performances. I just wish it had gotten a wider release.
  13. Technically they have, but in reality no .... they've had food, shelter, protection, water, etc from the get go even to the point of it being isolated as it was an experimental development and the entire area was basically evacuated early on. That's a stark contrast to what the world has turned into in virtually every other corner. Plus, they have limited resources that are depleting and that's why they brought in Rick's group. They knew the longer they survived, the harder it would be to successfully find supplies and that's why brought in a group that has been surviving on their own for years in the wild.
  14. Showtime has ordered 12-episodes of "Billions," starring Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis This sounds very, very good ....and FOX is bringing back "The X-Files" for a 6-episode "event series" run
  15. But there was an argument I remember along the lines of "If you're 'rooting' for Walt you're a horrible person and Why does everybody hate Skylar so much" when it forgets that the show was basically about Walt's journey and that's why he even when was still a murderous drug dealer, he was the show's protagonist.
  16. I think people take the "main character is not a even a good guy" stuff way too far. It happened with Lost, Breaking Bad...now The Walking Dead. It was not that long ago when in very short order Rick was captured by a group of blood thirsty animals who were going to rape and murder his child in front of him and then he was captured by cannibals, where he was literally seconds away from being butchered so he could he eaten. So in this post-apocalyptic world...he's still way better than the violent drunk who beats his wife and son.
  17. If he's only as "good" as he was last year that's a problem for him. Plus, apparently he ran the 40-yard dash in concrete block shoes at the veterans combine. But a few news notes... Darren Sharper has copped a "global" plea for his gaggle of rape cases across the country and will spend 9 years in federal prison. Also, the NFL has voted to suspend the blackout rule for the 2015 season.
  18. I'm just about obsessed with Dateline at this point
  19. Guys, Season 6 has been so good. Talk about Justified.
  20. Well, eventually Seth Gilliam will die and be replaced by Wood Harris, Robert Wisdom or Frankie Faison. Only one alum of "The Wire" is allowed for any extended period of time. Come to think of it, Bunny Colvin on "TWD" would rule.
  21. There's also a rumored prequel-type movie that will touch on the back stories of Princess Leia and Han Solo
  22. It's a Criminal Minds spinoff co-starring Gary Sinise Eventually, every CBS show will just be a spinoff of existing shows. I can't wait for The Big Bang Theory: Boston starring Neil Patrick Harris and Amanda Peet!
