Thomas Gravesen has retired. :(

Former Everton and Real Madrid midfielder Thomas Gravesen has announced his retirement. The 32-year-old, who ended his international career in 2006 after winning 66 caps and scoring five goals for Denmark, has now hung up his boots for good.

"I have had fantastic years abroad. I played and lived in four countries. There are many people I need to thank," Gravesen said.

"I would do it all over again if I had the opportunity. I am 32 years old – 33 in March – so age and health decides it for me. I choose to stop."

Gravesen joined Everton in 2000 from Hamburg and became a fans' favourite during his five years at Goodison Park before leaving for Real Madrid. After a season at the Bernabéu, he switched to Celtic in 2006 but failed to establish himself and departed last summer after an unsuccessful two-year stint which saw him loaned back to Everton in 2007.

Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen hailed his former international team-mate as "one of the best".

"I understand Thomas' decision, but it is unfortunate for Danish football because for the last six or seven years he has been one of the very best and most striking Danish players," Sorensen said.

"Thomas is one of the best I have ever played with. He did everything, and then he had the winning mentality."

AT FUCKING LAST

He's been really unlucky over the past few weeks, with shots going just wide or over the bar but now I think he'll kick on a get maybe 15 more before the end of the season. This all helps our goal difference aswell. Just hope they can hang onto the clean sheet.
