The crowd being made up mostly of locals is making this a lot more exciting than it ought to be. Every time Utd are on the attack there's this wave of both expectation and astonishment amongst the Japanese fans.

Does look at the minute like it's only a matter of time before they go ahead.

Well yeah because it's the truth

Yeah he's got a point.

They did just beat the 8th best team in Japan this season 5-3 and then an Ecuadorian team currently ranked the 34th top club (with 4 players from their squad of 38 to come from abroad) and are the fourth most successful club in Ecuador.

To be perfectly honest, it's a meaningless trophy anyway because it's got no real history going for it and only really features two games from the top teams. Most teams would prefer the Carling Cup to it, in terms of prestige.

What they should just have tried to do was create an international club ranking system to cover the world, then picked the top 32 to do a few games over a summer.

Instead this just messes EVERYTHING up for most teams.

Don't care if it's apparently meaningless, winning it is all that matters. It might not seem like a big deal to people here, but it clearly does to the players. So what if the teams aren't mind blowing? You have to win the Champions League to get there, which United did, so it wasn't fucking easy in winning it.

Shame about Vidic, losing him in the first leg against Milan is going to be crazy, but we'll see how it works out.

What are United supposed to do? We were obligated to face those teams and we beat them. We deserved the win in both matches and I'll gladly play in this tournament every year as it means we won the Champions League.
