Your most listened to music in 2008

RPS

Recommended Posts

Everyone can use last.fm to look at the last twelve months to see their most listened to bands.

Artists

10. Girl Talk (released Feed the Animals and it was the best party album of the year)

9. Daft Punk (really got into Daft Punk this year and listened to them a shit load)

8. Hot Chip (I heard Ready for the Floor and fell in love with them)

7. Antony & The Johnsons (I had all their songs on my computer, but never listened until this year)

6. M.I.A (went and saw her concert in June, so I was listening to her nonstop before and after, plus released some new stuff)

5. Hercules & Love Affair (best album of the year and best band of the year. The only reason they aren't #1 is because they had one album to listen to, while Blur, Rufus and Of have a huge discography)

4. Blur (2007 and early 2008 I was obsessed with Blur.)

3. Rufus Wainwright (I didn't realise I listened to him so much this year)

Mine is definately screwed I think since I swapped from Winamp to Itunes early in the year, so mine is pretty old and outdated me thinks.

Artists

1 - Soundgarden

2 - Shinedown

3 - Nickelback

4 - Audioslave

5 - Limp Bizkit

6 - Alice In Chains

7 - Metallica

8 - Faith No More

9 - The Exies

10 - Queens of the Stone Age

Not many suprises here, thought that The Exies may've been slightly outside 10 though, but meh.

Albums

1 - Soundgarden - Superunknown

2 - Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger

3 - Shinedown - Us and Them

4 - Shinedown - Leave A Whisper

5 - Soundgarden - Down on the Upside

6 - Audioslave - Audioslave

7 - Soundgarden - Louder than Love

8 - Nickelback - Silver Side Up

9 - Audioslave - Out of Exile

10 - Faith No More - Angel Dust

0 of these albums are from this year. :/ Half since 2000, Us & Them and Out of Exile both from 2005 being the newest, and the rest in the 1990s.

There's only about 20ish plays Badmotorfinger and Superunknown, having only got Badmotorfigner a few days before Xmas last year. LastFM is a little biased though as I may've listened to other albums more times, but albums with more tracks on them will have more plays etc. Having a "best of" for both Nirvana and Guns N' Roses don't help matters either as the tracks will be attributed to the original albums rather than the greatest hits.

Songs

1 - Soundgarden - Rusty Cage

2 - Soundgarden - Outshined

3 - Soundgarden - Jesus Christ Pose

3 - Soundgarden - New Damage

5 - Soundgarden - Slaves & Bulldozers

6 - Soundgarden - Somewhere

6 - Soundgarden - Face Pollution

8 - Soundgarden - Drawing Flies

8 - Soundgarden - Mind Riot

8 - Soundgarden - Searching With My Good Eye Closed

:shifty:

All tracks from Badmotorfinger, top 17 are Soundgarden. I am a little suprised by that, would've thought a song or two from Superunknown would break the top 10 or some Alice in Chains would get there, oh well. I fell in love with that album. :shifty:

I was going to preface this by saying that from September onwards, my ipod was used a fair bit for the store soundtrack where I work, and I figured that might skew my charts, but it apparently hasn't had much of an effect (like, my work's playlist features little to no screaming vocals, and obviously no expletives).

ARTISTS

1 Reuben

2 Underoath

3 Atreyu

4 Thrice

5 Brand New

6 Say Anything

7 A Wilhelm Scream

8 Flyleaf

9 Innerpartysystem

10 Fall Out Boy

Surprised at Atreyu being so high, Brand New so low and that Fall Out Boy are even there at all.

ALBUMS

1. They're Only Chasing Safety (Underoath)

2. In Defense of the Genre (Say Anything)

3. Flyleaf (Flyleaf)

4. Racecar is Racecar Backwards (Reuben)

5. Ruiner (A Wilhelm Scream)

6. The Inevitability of a Strange World (Halifax)

7. The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me (Brand New)

8. What it is to Burn (Finch)

9. Deja Entendu (Brand New)

10. Fight With Tools (Flobots)

The only thing out of place there is Say Anything, that's a little odd. I was mildly amused at the lack of '08 albums making the top ten.

TRACKS

1. I'm Content With Losing (Underoath)

2. Don't Stop (Innerpartysystem)

3. Reinventing Your Exit (Underoath)

4. A Pillar of Salt (The Thermals)

5. Get Well Soon (Reggie and the Full Effect)

6. It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door (Underoath)

7. The Party Song (Emery)

8. Congratulations (A Wilhelm Scream)

9. Start Today (Gorilla Biscuits)

10. A Boy Brushed Red Living In Black And White (Underoath)

I think The Thermals track is a "shop anomaly", as I'm sure I've not listened to it a great deal outside of work.

I like how Underoath feature heavily, yet it's all earlier stuff, and none of the album they released this year. Lost in the Sound... is a quality album, but I've not gotten into it nearly as much as ...Safety - by far their best IMO.

Thanks to my PC crashing I've had to restart from scratch around August... but after just finding an old Itunes database I might pathetically thread two databases together at some point for consistency >_<

So here's my iPod top 25

1) 'Ca Plane Pour Moi' by Presidents of the United States of America

2) 'Allison' by Pixies

3) 'The Longest Line' by NOFX

4) 'Velouria' by Pixies

5) 'DVNO' by Justice (might be higher if I counted the remixes)

6) 'Spieluhr' by Rammstein

7) 'Rosenrot' by Rammstein

8) 'The Trees' by Rush

9) 'Neon Knights' by Black Sabbath

10) 'Warsaw' by Joy Division (technically by Warsaw but meh)

11) 'Let There Be Light' by Justice

12) 'Plug In Baby' by Muse

13) 'Tame' by Pixies

14) 'What Difference Does It Make' by Smiths

15) 'Inner City Pressure' by Flight of the Conchords

16) 'Bliss' by Muse

17) 'Futurism' by Muse

18) 'Johnny and Mary' by Placebo

19) 'Ca Plane Pour Moi' by Plastic Bertrand

20) '2+2=5' by Radiohead

21) 'Benzin' by Rammstein

22) 'The Spirit of Radio' by Rush

23) 'Love' by Smashing Pumpkins

24) 'Suspect Device' by Stiff Little Fingers

25) 'Iron Man' by Black Sabbath

Not surprisingly, the catchy short songs are stuck near the top whilst some of the longer awesome ones are stuck to the bottom >_<

Although what is surprising is that out of my top 25.. I only have one Radiohead song... and they're what I'd call my favourite band.

6. Fuel - Halos Of The Sun (44)

6. Operator - Nothing To Lose (44)

6. Art Of Dying - Get Through This (44)

I must have had those last five on a playlist at some point, otherwise that's one hell of a coincidence that they all have 44 plays :P

Albums

1. Alter Bridge - Blackbird (357)

2. Paramore - Riot! (310)

3. Seether - Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces (261)

4. Alter Bridge - One Day Remains (228)

8. The Exies - A Modern Way Of Living With The Truth (173)

9. 3 Doors Down - 3 Doors Down (168)

10. Rev Theory - Light It Up (147)

Somehow the Alter Bridge albums don't add up to the total Alter Bridge plays which is weird because I don't have anything outside of those albums. I've obviously listened to Nickelback's new album way too much since it came out in October/November or whenever it was.

I'm going the same route as The General since I've never used last.fm.

1. The Zeros - Handgrenade Heart

2. Camera Silens - Identite

3. Energetic Krusher - The Blast

4. Al Kapott - Panchocolachorizo

5. Angelic Upstarts - Youth Leader

6. Nuclear Assault - Sin

7. Anti Cimex - New Blood

8. The Men They Couldn't Hang - Going Back to Coventry

9. Toxic Holocaust - Arise From the Cemetary

10. The Men They Couldn't Hang - Shirt of Blue

11. Motorhead - Shoot You in the Back

12. Motorhead - Black Leather Jacket

13. Camera Silens - Les Bal Des Vauriens

14. Eddie Cochran - Cut Across Shorty

15. Kat - Devil's Child

16. Riistetyt - Suur Suomi

17. The Zeros - Wimp

18. Aggression - Forgotten Skeleton

19. Destroyer 666 - Song for a Devil's Son

20. English Dogs - Ambassador of Fear

21. The Zeros - Beat Your Heart Out

22. Camera Silens - Squatt

23. Crude SS - Forced Values

24. Destroyer 666 - The Eternal Glory of War

25. Disarm - Domd

The first thing I notice is that there is a variety of songs from different countries. Australia, France, Sweden, Ireland, England, Poland, and Canada are represented. I was on a rather large kick for The Zeros and Camera Silens apparently as they made the list multiple times. I think a few songs such as Black Leather Jacket and Panchocolachorizo are products of hearing the song, falling in love, and playing the hell out of it. There is actually a nine way tie for the last spots, but I cut it off at 25 so as to not get ridiculous.

For the fun of it though the next bands would be Doom, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Motorhead, Sacrifice, and the Zeros.

That's 181 times a song from that album has been played, I haven't listened to the album 181 times.

Oh...obviously...

Otherwise Nickleback would have slightly more than 310 plays.

There was someone else in the thread that had a scarily large number of listens on their songs. I think it was Clawson.

Using the way that AD has (where you add up each total listens of the song together) for 59 Sound by The Gaslight Anthem I have a total of 903. Which is an average of 72.25 plays per song. And that's on iTunes where it only actually registers at the very end of the song where it moves onto the next one, so doesn't include all the listens where I changed song before it got to the very end. Which is quite often, especially with Great Expectations (and that's still my most listened song with 127 plays).

Meh. I feel a bit pathetic. <_<

And that includes listening to music a quarter of the time from September-December than I did from January to August. If I was consistent all the way through a lot of those numbers would be higher.
