It's just the blues, Mary, the blues

Swirling around my head like your dreams **yadda yadda something something**

I'm somewhere over the rainbow for you

You've think I'd be sick of him by now...but yeah, this tune's going to be lovely when it gets beyond a demo. My ticket for the Shepherds Bush show next month better show up soon, grrrrrrr.

New year, new 'l33t' thread.

So, what else this year.

It's pretty early days, so nothing much of interest is out yet, besides Animal Collective I guess, but I haven't heard yet. The Bouncing Souls have released "Gasoline", which is the first of the 'release a song a month' thing they've got going on. It's a good song, plus it features the phrase "paedophile lust"...which is fabulous. Typical Bouncing Souls affair, MASSIVE chorus, loving it. The Bouncing Souls are a must check out band for all you Gaslight fans out there, if you haven't already.

Algernon Cadwallader have a new EP out too, which is good if you're into the 'shouty'/math-rock-emo stuff. It's short, but gives you a good idea of the sound to expect from their sound though.

On the more mainstream feel, been listening to a bunch of N-Dubz, "Right Now" by Akon, "Just Dance" by Lady GaGa, "I Miss You" by Basshunter (epic for the fact it features the bird who sings in Benbrick tunes...and you know, being fantastically cheesy) and some Chris Brown.

To be fair, I'm not a big fan of Animal Collective to begin with. Which is weird, as I loved the Panda Bear, album ("Person Pitch"). Although, the more I think about it, I think it's less I love the Panda Bear album, and more I love the opening track. :shifty:

I can't wait to be all elitist again in 2009 :)

Hopefully the thread doesn't degenerate into a "lets talk about every album ever thread". This is for people to look down on everyone elses musical tastes.

Brian Fallon solo album is going to be beautiful as well.

"swirling around my head like your dreams in *something* of your shoes"

I want to say "in awe" but that doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. Will try and work it out as we go.

EDIT: OK so it's definitely not awe. But we need a team of people to work this one out asap.

Like your dreams in Dorothy's shoes.

...I think.

I heard it a few days ago, and it's fucking wonderful.

Also, where the fuck is this new Bouncing Souls? Myspace, I assume? Tracking it down and checking it out now.

We have a winner :wub:. Was obviously going to be "...Oz" related...I was literally trying to think of EVERYTHING to fit, yet didn't think about the most obvious "Dorothy"...I feel thick as fuck. :shifty:

"Gasoline" isn't on their myspace, or at least it wasn't the other day, but it's not particularly difficult to track down. :shifty:

And despite saying "I'm going to take a break" I've already put together a pretty solid gaylist. :shifty: Featuring some random pop-rock band called "Linden"...with;

How many would fuck brunette? Even though she's clearly like 14. :shifty:

Also, the bird who sings on that Freemasons tune ("Uninvited") her solo stuff is pretty fucking cool (all acoustic-y and stuff)...love that tune (Alanis Morissette cover) purely because it has legendary status with me and my mates for the fact that the chorus line that sounds like "...ANIMAL SHEEEEEELTER!!!"

I'm glad someone admitted the problem I had with Animal Collective. It was too fucking boring, honestly. I looooooove Person Pitch and would love to see Panda Bear do something like that again, though. I haven't really cared to dive into the A.C. Newman record, either. Poor 2009. :(

Artist of 2009, so far. Paul Baribeau...even if he ain't released anything since 2007...I only started listening to him a couple of days ago...FUCKING AMAZING! He's another one of those "Plan-It-X" acoustic artists (Andrew Jackson Jihad, Ghost Mice, This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb etc.)

"...Because I've been let down by the people that I love, But I will not let down the people who love me..."

He's also trumped David Bazan in the "EPIC INDIE BEARDY MAN" stakes;

There's been a SHITLOAD in gaylist;

MiMi Soya are my current favourites, from the UK, their debut EP was great, and of the new songs I LOVE "Crazy" (not on myspace anymore <ahttp://www.ewbattleground.com/uploads/emoticons/default_sad.png' alt=':('>) and "Don't Stand On Ceremony"...I'm not too big on "Rotten Boys" but it's growing on me. [ http://www.myspace.com/mimisoya ]

Automatic LoveLetter are from America and are a good, good band. Their singles compilation has some epic tunes on there...PAAAAAAARKEEEERRRR DO YOU REMEMBER HOW I CARRIED YOUR HEART AND I CARRIED IT FAR!?!?! [ http://www.myspace.com/automaticloveletter ]

Farewell City are another UK band. Some proper catchy tunes, haven't actually got a full release by them. "Second In Last Place" is epic. [ http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...riendid=5120813 ]

Fracture The Times are an American band with a bit more of an indie vibe, but still some sugary powerpop goodness. Their EP is free too. [ http://www.myspace.com/fracturethetimes ]

Working Class Heroes are another band from over here, well Wales to be exact. Some catchy tunes. [ http://www.myspace.com/workingclassheroes ]

All The Above are another UK band that had a load of potential, but split before they could really do anything. The two myspace songs are top notch though. [ http://www.myspace.com/alltheaboveuk ]

Consort With Romeo were another UK band who unfortunately split before they could really do anything, put out an EP though which has some good stuff on. [ http://www.myspace.com/consortwithromeo ]

Storyline were a band I considered for Gaylist 7, but didn't quite make the cut. Pretty solid. [ http://www.myspace.com/storyline ]

Hey Monday are on Decaydance and going to be touring with Fall Out Boy, they're fun. [ http://www.myspace.com/heymonday ]

One Star Story are from the US. I haven't really checked them out much, but I do really like the rough demo's for the singer's electro-pop side project. [ http://www.myspace.com/onestarstory ]

-------------------------------------------------

Also, totally unrelated, a great band, from Sweden, to be on the look out for this year. "Jeniferever", they're on the same label as This Town Needs Guns, Pulled Apart By Horses, Mimas, Tubelord, Blakfish etc, who I've been bigging up this year. They're not really similar to those (besides Mimas who have the post-rock thing down), but they have an OUTSTANDING cover of Springsteen's "One Step Up" on their myspace, it's seriously breathtaking - http://www.myspace.com/jeniferever

Big Little Dipper Dipper. Oh my God this is insanely good. Some kind of mad musical collective, featuring folk-punk accordion troubador and Amanda Palmer co-collaborator Jason Webley, who is himself one of the most under-rated talents going...but this is just ridiculous. Aside from some mad fey anti-folk tracks on their Myspace, check this bit of techno brilliance;

DO YOU WANT TO GO CHINA, DO YOU WANT TO THROW THE DISCUS?

So it's the 2009 elitist thread and nobody's mentioned that Anthony and the Johnson's dropped and it's fucking glorious? Awful.

Edit: Also, new Architecture In Helsinki is dire! Ugh. How the mighty have fallen. I'm going to go and listen to In Case We Die and remember the good times.
