I'd like to run this a lot like YI and his "Top 50 Artists" in the music thread, but I'd like to focus on the the Villains of the screen, whether it be television or movies. So vote for your Top 5 Villains and I'll tally them up at the end and hopefully we'll get a top 50 list going.

1. Don Logan (Sexy Beast)

2. Mitsuko Souma (Battle Royale)

3. Nurse Ratched (Cuckoo's Nest)

4. Captain Morris Stanley (The Proposition) - ok so it's borderline as there isn't really anyone who is right or wrong but still.....

5. Commodus (Gladiator)

6. Amon Goeth (Schindler's List)

7. Alex DeLarge (Clockwork Orange)

8. Patrick Bateman (American Psycho)

9. Hattori Gennosuke (Zatoichi)

10. Asami Yamazaki (Audition)

Sorry, made a mistake with Proposition character so edited.

I think for me the best villains either THINK that they're in the right, and abuse their position of power because of it - such as Goeth, Ratched, Stanley....Or have an underlying mental affliction - such as Commodus (god complex, oedipus, loads of stuff), Patrick Bateman (spoilered), DeLarge, Souma (past issues involving sexual "deviance").

Or they're just shouty and doublehard like Don Logan.

... man, five is too few, I bet this is going to be hell to tally up. Mine'll come in a little bit after I get the chance to actually think about my answers because I looooove good villains.

I'm trying to come up with five, apart from going the obvious route like Darth Vader or The Joker, but it's fucking hard. Hans Landa from Inglourious Basterds would definitely be in there somewhere. Keyser Soze (Usual Suspects) and maybe Hans Gruber (Die Hard) at a stretch.

I'll edit in my votes later, but I just wanted to pop into say when this list is done, can I call doing EWB's greatest [insert number] TV shows? I've wanted to do it for a while and finally have the time; but I'm not sure two lists at once would work.

1. The Joker (Dark Knight)

2. Number One/John Cavil (Battlestar Gallactica)

3. Keyser Soze (The Usual Suspects)

4. Angelus (Buffy/Angel)

5. Sylar (Heroes)

6. The Alliance (Firefly)

7. Bill (Kill Bill)

8. Majin Buu (Dragon Ball Z)

9. Arvin Sloane (Alias)

10. Julian Sark (Alias)

Yeah, I loved Lex in Smallville but as far as villains go, I wouldn't rack him anywhere near the top. Dude spent most of his time walking the line between hero and villain. Hell, I'm pretty sure they killed him off partly just because his story had to either end in redemption or destruction seeing how close he and Clark were. (Plus Michael Rosenbaum leaving).

I'm going to go with my favourites as opposed to who I think are the best in terms of development and story blah. Otherwise it'll just be the usual suspects...

1. Xenomorph (Alien)

2. Angelus (Buffy/Angel)

3. Mr. Blonde (Reservoir Dogs)

4. Jack Torrance (The Shining)

5. The Operative (Serenity)

6. The Joker (The Dark Knight)

7. Bill (Kill Bill)

8. The Terminator (Terminator)

9. Magneto (X-Men)

10. Benjamin Linus (Lost)

1. Nurse Mildred Ratched (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest)

2. Hans Gruber (Die Hard)

3. Anton Chigurh (No Country For Old Men)

4. Col. Hans Landa (Inglourious Basterds)

5. Eve Harrington (All About Eve)

6. Antwon Mitchell (The Shield)

7. Legato Bluesummers (Trigun)

8. Gogo Yubari (Kill Bill) :shifty:

9. Russell "Stringer" Bell (The Wire)

10. Ralph Cifaretto (The Sopranos)

List subject to change a million goddamn times over.

EDIT: For the sake of debate, I don't really get listing Bill. What he does in the flashback is horrible, but then we actually get to him in the present and in my mind Elle Driver is really the biggest villain in the story and the only reason I have Gogo here and not her is because, well. EWB namesake.

EDIT II: The Operative tempts me in a big way, though.
