JONESBORO, Ark. -- Former Auburn running back Michael Dyer has been dismissed from the Arkansas State squad for violating team rules.

Arkansas State coach Gus Malzahn announced the decision Saturday, saying: "I am truly disappointed that it didn't work out here at ASU for Mike. I wish Mike nothing but the best in the future."

The offensive MVP as a freshman in Auburn's victory over Oregon in the 2011 national championship game, wasn't eligible to play this season for the Red Wolves after the NCAA denied his request to play immediately.

Dyer transferred to Arkansas State in January after he was suspended indefinitely by Auburn coach Gene Chizik for violating unspecified team rules before the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

He was the first Tigers tailback to rush for more than 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons, including a 1,093-yard performance as a freshman that broke Bo Jackson's school record of 892 yards set in 1982. Dyer rushed for 1,242 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

Malzahn, who was Dyer's offensive coordinator at Auburn, helped recruit Dyer to the Tigers before being hired by the Red Wolves after last season.

This in the same month that Gus Malzahn was denying rumours that Dyer was going to transfer elsewhere. D'oh. Seems like he was pegged to be a star player for the Red Wolves in the 2012 season too. :/

Honey Badger is reportedly most likely to move down a level so that he can avoid sitting out a year. Probably will leave for the NFL after the season. Nearby McNeese St. is assumed to be the favorite to land him.

If McNeese doesn't get him, they should just shut down the program ... all though, Northwestern St and a couple of TX 1-aa schools are probably knocking down the door as well. Pretty much anyone in the Southland Conference should seriously be trying to snag him.
