Sunderland have made an improved £12m bid for Wolves striker Steven Fletcher. The offer, which is understood to be Sunderland's final and best bid, is under consideration. An initial bid of £10m was rejected out of hand but this offer is thought to be much closer to Wolves' valuation for the 25-year-old. Fletcher's former club Burnley will be due 15% of any profit Wolves make on a player they paid £7m for in 2010.

United States midfielders Maurice Edu and Alejandro Bedoya are unlikely to play for Rangers again, manager Ally McCoist has indicated. McCoist also believes that USA captain Carlos Bocanegra will also leave Ibrox now that Rangers are in Division Three. Elsewhere, former Hearts striker Kevin Kyle has signed for Rangers, only hours after Francisco Sandaza and Emilson Cribari were added to Ally McCoist's squad. The 31-year-old Kyle, who has been out of football with a hip injury since January 2011, has signed for one year. Fellow forward Sandaza, 27, has signed a three-year contract after rejecting a new contract with St Johnstone. Central defender Emilson, 32, has signed for two years after leaving Cruzeiro in his Brazilian homeland. Former Celtic, West Brom, Swansea and Hearts striker Craig Beattie has been offered terms and club chief executive Charles Green continues to discuss a possible deal with the player's representatives before the club begin their one-year transfer ban.

Huddersfield Town are set to sign Cardiff City defender Anthony Gerrard for £350,000 on a three-year contract. The 26-year-old has not played for the Bluebirds since missing a vital penalty in City's Carling Cup final loss to Liverpool in February. He was also left out of Cardiff's pre-season tour by manager Malky Mackay.

Despite their best efforts, the Great British Olympic football team has effected the Scottish.

My intention is not to rag on this simple spelling mistake, but the image it paints in my mind is of a mishap involving Craig Bellamy, Daniel Sturridge and a time machine, and therefore amuses me greatly.

12m for Fletcher is more than he's worth but Wolves don't want to or need to sell him so the price is bound to be bloated.

Mark Davies is a good player, not surprised to see Swansea interested, he's very accomplished on the ball. I guess Bolton will have Holden back this season too?
