  1. I miss the big boxed PC games because of the manual thing. I remember once upon a time if I bought a game I could open up that box and see a book and how I couldn't wait to read that. Sometimes I'd have an Amiga/PC game and not touch it for a couple of hours while skimming the read. Remember some of the flight games manuals practically had enough extra gubbins to teach you how to fly the real thing!
  2. Just rewatching the Stevenage game. How great was Moose's strike to get us promoted? Was too nervous to really appreciate it at the time.
  3. The thing is, the style and imagery which are associated with Noir aren't actually that far from detective fiction elsewhere. I know people like to see them as an American only phenomenon but while that's the image and certainly the depression era gangster setting is one of the more defining images it doesn't mean that there is no other eras and locales where the look and feel is covered. The French and British were making great noirs alongside and around the American scene. If you love the genre certainly recommend you check out some more of how it can work beautifully in other settings. The '60s I would semi agree is late given the classic era of the movies BUT given the amount of modern noir there still is the setting could work. I'd say for a start the iconic film noir image of the shadowy trilby worn silhouette standing in a dark misty alley is inspired by the earlier image from the 1880's pea-souper.
  4. I've always liked trying that with the Finns. My current longer term goal is to lead Oxford City from Zamaretto to a stable top flight club competing for European trophies before starting to look for somewhere to move on to. I don't like watching a team I built up fall apart when I leave current position League Two after succesive promotions following a couple of seasons blending in. The plan for alternative location is to go to Finland and not only get a club side somewhere on the continent but to improve the whole infrastructure of the country around my team (keeping ahead of course) which seems to be possible under the newer "dynamic leagues". I'll probably get bored though long before the long vision comes into play
  5. Here's why a 60's London could have the potential to be a great game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kray_twins I love the idea of something taken with the base in reality alongside the film noire elements. The only thing I'd want is to keep it pre-forensics. Leave that to the (not THAT bad) CSI point and click games but any time period where there's some interest that can be had from the historical setting and work with a good clue gathering/interrogation setting can work great. Prohibition era Chicago for example would be great as well, on the subject of London I'd like to see one during the 1880's... Let#s see where they go but I think almost anything they tried has the potential to work in the same way as this one. LA Noire isn't prefect but it's enjoyable and if Rockstar take what works and tweaks it I think could be a series better than GTA.
  6. A couple of updates from the UK following 1PW's events this weekend. 1PW Openweight champion is Noam Dar. Don't think he's on there yet so will do some more studying and try and give you details on him in the not too distant future. 1PW heavyweight champion is Lionheart Would also recommend adding hatred between Rockstar Spud and Danny Rodd. Looks like Spuds still unpaid from an event last year judging by some comments he's been making recently.
  7. Kick off delayed by 15 due to road accident. Trains also awful though due to a tyrain bringing down cables northbound, got friends who left at 9:30 this morning and only made it by 2 mins to go before kickoff due to the delayed start. It wouldn't have been many more but anyone leaving a little after than wouldn't have had a chance of getting to the game. Incredibly happy but pissed off I was on the air so couldn't get up there. More stadium improvements planned over the Summer and can't believe I'll be seeing the likes of Sheffield Wednesday coming to Broadhall Way for league matches next season. Hoping it's not too fast, too soon. Going to be a tough year but going to enjoy it.
  8. Part of the emptiness is trains being stopped and massively delayed and trouble on the roads. Come on the Boro!
  9. I've got loads I've collected over the years. I don't actually wear most of them due to growing up but every time I've been on holiday I've bought a local teams shirt.
  10. Kept simply there are too many teams and if you start doing a "trickle effect" down the tiers where do you stop? There are glass ceilings in football as it is without giving extra funds to teams only up to a certain level. Essentially it could be in terms of age. My history of the NBA and so on are limited so please forgive any errors here - When the major American Leagues are set up they tended to put in a set amount of franchises they could sustain then over the years invited more teams to join. To do that now in effect the FA would need to revamp the whole sport. In return that would kill far more clubs and supporters than it would save.
  11. It's a smaller scale warning to the likes of Chelsea and Man City. Griggs worked wonders for Irthlingborough Diamonds ( ) and built a nice club almost from the ground up. They were badly managed in the Conference which halted their rise a little. I wonder what would've happened had they continued their rise. Doc Martens would still have been hit but maybe Griggs would've kept his interest and not withdrawn if they were fighting to get in to the Champion/premiership.
  12. Is there a central log anywhere at Sony / Microsoft that sees how many people have achieved what trophies/chievs? Wondering if it's about marketing "look X people played this for over 50 million hours, it must be great!" I've pumped hours into Oblivion because I like the game, not a single trophy to be had so I'd probably accidentally unlock one if it were there but not going to stick with any game if it's crap.
  13. Nolongerboro ruined the moment in the FA Cup this year by dumping both out. Still add in the league cup and more chance of the dream draw coming up. Will be interesting to see how they perform next year. Think with the right spending Crawley can push for promotion. Wimbledon not sure, took Crawley ages to over haul them so could both be fighting for play offs.
  14. Wimbledon edge into the football league after penalties. Such a tight game which could've gone either way. Two years and still waiting for Luton to "piss this tin pot league".
  15. Mildly advantage Dons. Let nerves commence.
  16. Sounds like if anything it was basic handbags then. Presumably would've shown something if it'd been any more. Been a few chances know as teams going gung ho, 3/4 minutes left? Could be a grandstand finisher.
  17. Listening on the radio they've mentioned clashes between police and Luton fans. Anything caught on the telebox? Starting to think penalties now, would hate to be the one needing to score to promote the side. Squeeky bum time now.
  18. Wasn't Hagi a midfielder? Only gripe with the team really, not a bad side.
  19. Final exorcism then. Back in '96 we'd have gone into the league at the expense of Torquay and then the year before last we should've been in a playoff final against them to get into the league bar a really "strange" game so will be a good one. Dreading the Sky coverage, it was one sided enough with Accrington without Helen Fucking Chamberlain being wheeled out to talk bollocks. Was looking forward to the Luton/Wimbledon game but it's tucked away on Premier so not sure if we'll see it. Do they do one day offers?
  20. This was probably the hardcore season ticket holder I heard proudly shouting racist comments about his own players on the train from London the other week then...
  21. Can't quite work out how he missed it. Day did well but they should've been back in the game. Might lift them though as Nolongerboro have been fairly dominant.
  22. If I remember correctly. 5th place get it, FA Cup winners get it, or failing that runners up (there was confusion earlier this season about that as there was talk they'd changed it due to same old suspects in the final) and league cup winners get in (unless already qualifying) So as it stands it should be - Spurs, Stoke and (possibly championship) Brum
  23. First W gone, Wolves and Wigan to fight it out next week. Spurs got the win so going to lock myself indoors before the tragic events that'll evolve over the next 24 hours
  24. A light aircraft is circling the DW trailing a banner reading: "Avram Grant Millwall Legend." Cruel, cruel humour Only cost them £500 quid in the end. Worth looking into for future reference...
  25. Did we really just see someone use the "I know you are but what am I?" on Eee dub bee? I'm sure you could've come up with something better! Sounds like Liverpool dropping like flies at the moment. They'll score soon though as Spurs never win there and when we do something horrible always happens. Bosnian war, titanic sinking, those sort of things. The beheading was a little early to blame on a Spurs win
