  1. Not real sure why the hiring of Turner took place, aside from the fact that he'll bring minimal amounts of change to a franchise that's in good shape. But the firing of Marty made perfect sense once his assistants were gone. He would have ended up hiring assistants and then leaving after next year, which would have left San Diego looking for a new head coach anyway, but being either stuck with Marty's assistants or having to buy out contracts. Once the opportunity presented itself to clear house completely, they jumped on it. While I understand what you're saying, and even agree to an extent, I still don't understand why TURNER? I mean, sure, go ahead and clean house and all, but if you're not going to hire a coach with a proven winning record, at least DON'T hire one who hasn't ever won anything. And honestly, unless Turner can take them into the playoffs and actually DO something, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find them looking for a new head coach next year ANYWAY.

  3. I really fail to see how firing a coach who admittedly can't seem to win in the playoffs, but at least knows how to guide a team TO the playoffs, and hiring a coach who's never really proven that he can be even a DECENT head coach, can be considered an improvement. Just makes no sense whatsoever to me.
  4. I see Wade Phillips as more of a "substitute" coach that Jerry Jones will let have the reins for a few years while he trains up Jason Garrett. The word is that Jones felt like Turner wouldn't want to step aside in a few years for Garrett, and that Phillips might be more willing to move on at that point and let Garrett have the head job. All in all, I don't really care who the coach is, as long as they're able to solidify the defense and get Romo back to that groove he was in for several weeks in the season.
  5. When my high school football team was in the playoffs my senior year, everyone was expecting us to at least make it to the championship game. We had a great, balanced team, and had won all but one of our games for the season. We were state ranked, close to nationally ranked, and looking forward to kicking ass in the semi's. Unfortunately, we played the number ONE ranked team in the state of Texas. Still, it was a close game, going back and forth all game. I was in the band, to set the stage. Anyway, it's getting close to the end of the game, and the other team scores to put them up 31-28. There's only enough time on the clock for a kickoff return. They kick the ball off, our guy gets it, and then breaks loose and runs it in for a touchdown! Our side goes crazy, and we (the band) start into the fight song, when all of a sudden...We see the referee waving the play off. There's been aholding penalty, and the game's over. Talk about heart-breaking.
  6. Well, the Wii in general. Seriously, it was sad. And as far as an actual GAME goes, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. And right now, the count is on for Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. Brawl. I luvs me some Nintendo.
  7. When I was growing up, my Mom and I used to play Castlevania 2, and Mario together. And the two of us plus my Dad would have huge Tetris WARS on the Gameboy. Currently, my wife loves to play Double Dash, Gamecube Tetris, as well as Mario Baseball with me. Oh, and for some reason, Mario Party 5. This is in addition to the games she plays alone, like Animal Crossing and The Sims.
  8. Usually I just use whatever the default name is, though lately I've started replaying Ocarina of Time, and I named Link to "...", as that's all he ever seems to say. Yeah, I'm so freaking witty, I know.
  9. Really, I have a problem on both, though I WILL admit that I do a tad better on a computer than on a console. Still nothing that could be called GOOD though, and most any decent player would frag me before I could blink.
  10. It's not that I don't LIKE them, but I'm NO good at First Person Shooter's, as I just can't seem to consitently hit anything without getting right up next to it and getting killed myself. One of the things I'm looking forward to about the Wii is increased ease of use for these kinds of games.
  11. Personally, I'd like to see Toejam and Earl in there as a "double" character, kinda like the Ice Climbers from Melee. Just would make for some interesting attacks.
  12. I too played the demo of COD 2, and was, well, not overly impressed. Yes, the graphics were prety sweet, and it was fun, but it didn't blow me away. Granted though, it's only one game, and there ARE some better looking ones out there...But I really think I'm in the demographic that Nintendo seems to be shooting for this generation. I'm to the point where better graphics coupled with the same style of gameplay just doesn't do it for me. And really, I've not seen, read, or heard about any games coming out that for either the 360 or PS3 that really make me want to go out and buy either system. Maybe that'll change, maybe not.
  13. Ok, so you'll probably all laugh at me for this, but apparently I've lost all my old scholl gaming skills, as I CAN'T BEAT THE FREAKING LEVELS IN MARIO SUNSHINE WHERE YOU DON'T HAVE THE F.L.U.U.D THING! Ahem, as I said, I used to be quite decent at platform jumping and the like, but it seems that as I've gotten older my skills have diminished to the point where I just want to cry when I have to beat one of those levels. And damn it makes me sad that Mario Sunshine is kicking my butt so badly right now.
  14. I would agree with that statement, except for the fact that one of my friends (who I went and saw the newst movie at midnight with) will go around CONSTANTLY singing it. And it's not even the whole song, just parts of it, especially the Duh Duh DuhDuhDuh, Duh Duh DuhDuhDuh part. Grrrrrrr.
  15. My intial thought to seeing the pics of the Revolution was: "Wow, I've so got to have one of those in my house as soon as is humanly possible". This was quickly followed by "OF course, I'd have to put it up at night, cause with it being that small, my dog might mistake it for one of this chew toys." Everything I've heard about the system indicates that Nintendo is going to try to give the best of both worlds: The innovation and "newness" that they're known for, along with a more healthy does of "mainstream" features than they've used in the past. Could make for an interesting next round of console battles. I just want to see some of the games though, dammit.
  16. Damn, now I guess I need to go see Episode Two to get ready for this. If this is half as good as it's looking to be, it'll BE the prequel everyone really wanted.
  17. I would love this game like the child I don't have if it wasn't for one thing: I CAN'T FREAKING COMPLETE A PASS IN IT! Sorry, but there's NO reason why my quarterback (regardless of the school) should be 6 for 30 in EVERY game. Now, I know some will say "Well, he just sucks at passing" and I know that's true. But in every other football game I've ever played, I've been able to figure it out with enough practice. But with this one, I seem to get worse everytime I play the thing. It's frustrating to think that here I'm 26 and I'm getting schooled by a videogame.
  18. Lord Of the Rings: The Musical? So, did anyone read this article? My wife sent it to me, and I just had to shudder. As much as I love musicals, and as much as I love the Lord of the Rings, this idea=bad bad bad. For one thing, I fail to see how they're going to keep the musical a decent length and still fit in ANY of the story. For another, well, it's just BAD. But hey, maybe it'll somehow work. I WILL at least give it a shot. But I'm not anticipating much.
  19. I own it. I loved playing it for a while...until the fateful day when I convinced my wife to give it a try. I probably haven't played it more than 10 hours since. She agree's with a review she read one time that compared it to "virtual crack".
  20. I agree with you about Microsoft shooting itself in the foot. I mean, look AT Sega, for example. They didn't gain a lot by being first to market with the Dreamcast. If anything, that allowed their competitors to counteract any advantage the Dreamcast might have otherwise had. And it's not like X-Box has been out forever. I mean, lord, it's only been a few years. I don't think they've fully explored the power and potential in THIS system, so why rush to get out another one? As far as Nintendo making money, I'll agree that a large part is thanks to the handheld market. But, if I'm remembering correctly, doesn't Nintendo still make money on any GC sold? I know they did at first, but I'm not sure if they still do due to the recent price cuts. And frankly, it's 3:30, and I'm about to go to bed, so I'm not gonna look tonight. lol But I'll agree that the next round will go a long, long ways in determining who'll survive and for how long. Apparently there are some unique things being planned for the Big N's next system, including a (rumored) total redesign of the controller to not feature any type of d-pad or a and b buttons. So Nintendo has something up their sleeves, which is nice to know. I would hate to see them go the same way as Sega, as there is still nothing quite like playing a Zelda game on a Nintendo system. Zelda on X-Box 2, or PS3?
  21. Well, I'm not gonna call it the best movie ever. Not sure about best sports movie ever. But I WILL say that it's a very good movie, and one that I enjoyed thoroughly. The performances were solid from top to bottom, and the way the film was put together served to enhance the script and those same performances. Overall I'd give it a recommendation to be seen.
  22. Something everyone seems to be missing here: The question about whether Nintendo will go out of business is precipitated by one thing: Are they still making money? The answer right now is yes. Until they STOP making money, they'll be in business. And as far as the Cube having worse graphics and games than PS2 or X-Box...Take a good hard look at a PS2 game up against the same game on GC and tell me which one looks better. 99% of the time it won't have the word Playstation anywhere in it. Now, that's not meant as a shot against the PS2, as I still don't think the PS2 has ever been used to its full potential. Just stating that it's not like Nintendo is just putting out crap systems or crap games. Nintendo does have, has had, and always WILL have, a different view on the industry from everyone else. The "Nintendo is kiddy" argument has been played out so many times that quite frankly, I don't want to even get it started again. Suffice it to say that the Madden, Eternal Darkness, DOR, And Metroid games sitting in my game stack provide me with some more "adult" entertainment, while I still have Mario, Zelda, and Animal Crossing for my more "childish" desires. And as far as the argument about Metroid, Zelda, Mario, etc. being essentially the same game...Name me the basic fundamental difference between GTA3, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: SA. What about basic fundamental differences between Halo and Halo 2? Or even, hell, to use a multi-platform series, what about Castlevania? In just about every one of those games you're trying to kill Dracula. My point? Almost EVERY game is essentially the same. The great thing about the truly great games (like those mentioned above) is how they find ways to revolutionize the genre within the parameters already set forth by previous games. In the end, playing a game should be about having FUN. NOT about which game has the most complex "Script" or the most "hardcore action". And that's why Nintendo is still around: They make great, FUN games. And that's why I think it will remain a force in the game industry. Maybe not number 1, maybe not even number 2. But still there. Sorry, that got kind of long winded. And despite all appearances to the contrary, I wasn't trying to start a console war either. At least, not in THIS post. To keep this (somewhat) on topic, I DO feel that eventually Nintendo will get behind online gaming. And that when they do, they'll find some new twist that'll make 50% of the worlds gamers go "What the HELL?" and the other 50% go "Man, that's the coolest thing EVER!" Typical Nintendo.
  23. Nintendo doesn't view online gaming as profitable. Until they do, you won't see them online in any significant way. Whether they're wrong or right, that's the answer to the question. I would think that yes, eventually they will get online, but I'm not seeing it in the near future. Although I'm wracking my brain trying to remember something, because I'm thinking that I DID read something that gave a little more hope into the "Nintendo online" question. Can't remember where I read that though. Oh, and Dan, I hope (and think) you're wrong about that.
