  1. I'd stick an apostrophe between the "e" and the "s" for a start, or just change it to "Love Is". It might catch my eye if I saw it, but I certainly wouldn't buy it. If anything, that cover would turn me off.

    The O.C.

I'm the only person in my class at college who doesn't like The OC...I watched one episode and was just turned off immediately, I see nothing special in it at all. I can't relate to a bunch of American rich kids in California, sorry.
  3. The only Atreyu song I'll recommend is "Don't Laugh" and maybe "You Give Love A Bad Name".
  4. I won't even begin to rip this apart... I don't really get the problem, to be honest, everyone knows that there are trailers played before the films and makes their choice as to whether they're gonna turn up at the start or guesstimate the end of the trailers, it's not exactly going to change anything. And besides, I like trailers.

    Song War

    1. MSN/E-mail (fiftysixtears@gmail.com) 2. Techno/Electro, Metal, Classic Rock, Indie, Punk, Classical, Rap, Jazz, New Wave, Goth, Trip Hop, Folk, Blues...I think that about covers it. 3. Varies, but most consistently after 8pm, but during the day now and then on weekdays, and late morning on weekends
  6. I've heard that there are some gaping flaws between the books and movie which is causing all the dislike between people who have read the books. ← Well that's to be expected, you can't cram 5 (long) books into an under 2 hour film, it's not possible. That and the fact that most of the humour of "Hitch-hiker's" comes from the descriptions, which works in the book, and to an extent in the narration on radio, but is lost in film. Theoretically they could have given it the LOTR treatment, but I doubt it would have been profitable to release extended versions or whatever because, especially outside the UK, it's a fairly cult phenomenon.

    Song War

So...yeah, I'll do it. I'll be down as an entrant, because I'm fairly elitist when it comes to music, so I'd make a fairly crappy judge, but whatever.
  8. I've heard quite the opposite to what you're worried about, really, more people I know who haven't read the books have enjoyed than those who have. I suggest you go see the film, then pick up the "trilogy" afterwards.
  9. Ah, I've already heard the Horrorpops, my girlfriend loves them, and I've got a bit of Brian Setzer's solo work, but I think it's a little overblown for my tastes...I'm not overly keen on Mojo Nixon either, but I'll look out for Zombina and The Skeletones, Gun Club and The Killbillies for now, cheers.
  10. Keep your eyes on the Jersey Live Festival this year, ladies and gents, it should be televised this time round (the first one, last year, wasn't, but after the success of Razorlight and The Subways, and them plugging the festival, chances are this one will be). There'll be a selection of top-quality local bands playing, with Kasabian headlining, and Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party and Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster also rumoured to be playing...I'll post any more information when I get it.
  11. I'm getting majorly into psychobilly and 1980s rockabilly revival bands, so if there's anyone else out there who's into this kind of thing, could you give me any suggestions? For psychobilly, I'm already heavily into The Cramps, and The Meteors, Nekromantix, Reverend Horton Heat and Tiger Army are up there, but with rockabilly revival I'm only really aware of the Stray Cats. Any help with either genre? Cheers.
  12. I wasn't intending to see this film at all, but damn...I think I may have just changed my mind
  13. Damn, I miss Brookside. THAT was a soap opera.
  14. Wow...just wow. Your telling me that a band that was heavily influenced by many different genres, went many different directions (even so far as disco), yet every record sounds pretty much the same? Not only that, but the band has managed to put out studio work over over 3 decades, despite it all really pretty much being the same? Your statement defies both conventional logic, as well as actual logic about the band's work. ← As I said, it's a stretched analogy, but the Stones haven't diversified nearly as much as The Beatles did, generally falling back on a reliable formula, whereas the Beatles changed more, and were much more experimental. It's more a way of looking at the Blur/Oasis "feud" alongside the Stones/Beatles one, not an exact analogy or anything.
  15. To use a somewhat stretched analogy, Oasis were the Rolling Stones to Blur's Beatles, which is ironic considering Oasis' Beatles aspirations. What I mean is that Oasis, like the Stones, found a formula that worked and stuck to it, so every album sounds pretty much the same, because they've realised that that's what people want to hear. Blur on the other hand, like the Beatles, diversified away from their original sound and matured greatly.
  16. Lyla sounds dull to me, I've never really been into them, but I expected more for a first single of the new album. Kudos to them, though, I can't figure out if/who it's ripping off yet...

    Doctor Who

I wasn't a big fan of this episode, the Emo Dalek was kind of a turn-off, I thought they were going to go further with the "You're no better than me"/"You and I are the same" thing with the Doctor and the Dalek early on, and I thought the ending was hugely anticlimatic, and the way the Dalek killed himself just looked like a last minute thing when they realised they couldn't figure out how to make a Dalek turn a gun on itself. The Cyberman's head in the museum at the start was a great touch, though.

    Punk songs help

You appear to be looking for more mainstream "pop-punk" artists, which I despise with a passion, so I can't help you much with that, but I heartily suggest The Buzzcocks and Exploding Hearts, as they're more "traditional" punk, but with more of a pop-song leaning, so you get the best of both worlds. I suggest you check out "Ever Fallen In Love With Someone" by The Buzzcocks, it's fairly well known, but would probably suit your needs. And it sounds like Buddy Holly on speed, which is always a good thing.

    Iggy Pop?

Like VerbalPuke said (and trust me, you should ALWAYS listen to him on matters such as this ), The Stooges are the epitome of trashy rock and roll, and they take pride of place alongside The New York Dolls and The Cramps in my record collection. They take sexually-energised pure sleaze and damn near turn it into an art form. I Wanna Be Your Dog, Gimme Danger and Sick Of You are wonderful songs, and I can't recommend them enough. As for solo material, I'm not overly keen on that much of it, but I heartily recommend the usual classics in Lust For Life, The Passenger and Cold Metal. Also, I suggest you check out "We Will Fall", the 2-CD Iggy Pop/Stooges tribute album, featuring Joey Ramone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joan Jett, Sugar Ray, Lunachicks, Monster Magnet, Pansy Division, 7 Year Bitch, The Misfits and Nada Surf, amongst others. Well worth the money if you can track it down.
  20. As a general guideline, I've always been taught that a page is roughly equal to a minute. That's not always true, obviously, it depends on how much occurs in that minute, but for basic scenes, that's generally the case.
  21. I love me some G-Love, but...Tegan and Sara! *marks out*
  22. That's all good, but don't expect to sell your script if you are going to use your own writing style. ← Precisely. Screenplays have an industry standard, or "academy" style as you put it, for a reason, and in 99.9% of cases a movie mogul wouldn't give you the time of day for a script in anyother format, explaining why your "most people" probably don't get anywhere in the film industry.
  23. I know this comes up a lot in my answers to this kind of question, but... The Smiths - Queen Is Dead The drum intro is absolutely amazing, and goes some way to prove that The Smtihs were more than just a two-man band.
  24. I remember Little Nicky, unfortunately
  25. As great as the concept sounds, I don't know how well it'll work without Ianucci. I imagine he had less input on the character's direction in the later days anyway, but it was Coogan, Morris and Ianucci that created Alan Partridge back in the day, and Ianucci was the link to the slightly darker side of Alan...
