  1. As far as Evergreen Terrace go...some of their cover versions are mildly entertaining, if nothing else. They've got some damn impressive song titles, though. Oh, and to add to the list: Lydia Lunch - Heart Attack And Vine (originally by Tom Waits) Marilyn Manson - The KKK Took My Baby Away (originally by The Ramones) Alkaline Trio - There's A Light Over At The Frankenstein Place (originally by Richard O'Brien, taken from the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack) The Chubbies - Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me (originally by Richard O'Brien, taken from the RHPS score) Angra - Wuthering Heights (originally by Kate Bush) ANYTHING by The Lemonheads or Evan Dando, especially Skulls (Misfits), Luka (Suzanne Vega) and Knowing Me, Knowing You (ABBA)
  2. This is a tricky one for me, as I utterly adore cover versions, so I'm sure I'll miss some, but here we go: Johnny Cash - One (originally by U2) Jeff Buckley - I Know It's Over (originally by The Smiths) The Beautiful South - Don't Stop Movin' (originally by S-Club 7) Billy Bragg - Never Had No One Ever (originally by The Smiths) Morrissey - That's Entertainment (originally by The Jam) Richard Cheese - Girls Girls Girls! (originally by Motley Crue) Reverend Horton Heat - Fulsom Prison Blues (originally by Johnny Cash) Oysterband - Love Will Tear Us Apart (originally by Joy Division) Nick Cave - Disco 2000 (originally by Pulp) There's a load more, but that's my current crop of favourites.

    Leonard Cohen

Cohen is, like most musicians perceived as being "dark" or "depressive", quite a witty individual. It's quite a common occurence, if you look at lyricists who got famous through "depressing" lyrics, such as Cohen, Nick Cave, Morrissey or Paul Heaton (to a lesser extent), in their later years they will often take on the same subjects with a more tongue-in-cheek approach, which is usually overlooked by all but their fans.
  4. Cluedo, Risk and the Pac-Man board game are some of the greatest things known to man. Only problem being that you always end up losing bits of the Pac-Man game, and Risk takes about as long to play as *actual* empire building.
  5. I don't know how you can possibly choose between the American Recordings. I was going to say them as well, but it's so hard to pick just one, IMO. They're all an amazing body of work.
  6. I'm going to stake my claim for The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths It's an utterly unique, intelligent, thought-provoking and quintessentially British piece of work, which doesn't take itself too seriously. From the thunderous marching drumbeat of "The Queen Is Dead", you just know that you've stumbled on something very special. And any album that can have songs like "Never Had No One Ever" and "I Know It's Over" sat alongside "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" and "Vicar In A Tutu", yet still flow superbly has to be an absolute work of genius. It gets uber-bonus points for "I Know It's Over", one of my favourite songs of all time, where almost every single line is pure genius, and some quality lyrics in the form of "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"'s anthemic chorus of "And if a Double-Decker Bus crashes into us...", and if you don't know the rest, you haven't lived! Essentially, this is the album that shows exactly what all the fuss is about The Smiths. Fantastic music, fantastic lyrics, but not afraid to take a tongue-in-cheek look at themselves. Absolute masterpiece.
  7. Oh, and Soul Blade > Soul Calibur. I never got into the later games for some reason.

    Medievil

Typing Of The Dead is nothing like Medievil. You fail at life >_>
  9. A good song to relax to, I feel, is "We Float" by PJ Harvey. It's just got a great relaxing sound to it, methinks.

    Medievil

I'm currently bidding on Medievil 2 for £5, and Medievil 1 for £4, there's someone selling both the price was sky-rocketing.

    Medievil

I have vague positive recollections of a PS1 game called "Medievil", centering around you playing a skeletal night with no lower jaw and a sword, and there being lots of disembodied hands everywhere, and a very Nightmare Before Christmas feel to the whole thing. Beyond that, I don't remember much about it, but I just bid for it on eBay. Anyone have any memories/opinions on this game?
  12. The bluegrass tribute to Metallica may well be by Hayseed Dixie, a classic rock/metal covers bluegrass band, who do fantastic versions of Back In Black and Ace Of Spades, but I don't know for sure if it would be them or not.
  13. I would also like to add to the healthy dosage of Richard Cheese-loving.
  14. I've got a load of string quartet tributes...I haven't heard the Audioslave one, though. The Radiohead one by The Section was great, the Joy Division/New Order was great, the Nirvana one's a little off, other than Heart-Shaped Box, the NIN one's pretty dodgy, The Smiths one is superb (Last Night I Dreamt...is the most haunting song ever), and I've heard the string quartet version of My Immortal by Evanescense, which is surprisingly good.
  15. I like pretty much anything....my main tastes are psychfolk like early Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett, light-hearted acoustic stuff like The Moldy Peaches and Adam Green, and psychobilly like The Cramps, Nekromantix, Zenbilly etc. I'm also a fan of techno (Apopytgma Berzerk > You), 80s goth (Sisters Of Mercy, Alien Sex Fiend et al), early punk, folk (Ani DiFranco, Thea Gilmore, Tegan & Sara, Natalie Merchant), country...pretty much anything.
  16. John Williams for the Jurassic Park score, which is superb. However, I worship at the proverbial altar of Danny Elfman, and I absolutely adore the entire Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow scores, not forgetting The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Simpsons theme tune. Verily, the man is a God.
  17. I own a Manowar bandana I bought off eBay. I win.
  18. This is a poster I created for my band's upcoming gig, and I was wondering what you think of it. I'm aware that it looks fairly rough in places, and I intend to get round to cleaning that up in the morning, but I'm just looking for opinions so far, so go ahead!
  19. Transformers > Everything "Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons." Best lyrics in any song ever.
  20. I'd choose local bands like my own band Sister Psychosis or Velofax or Jonny & The Rats, but that's not going to happen, and it's a pretty pointless reply as none of you will have access to them... So, not counting local bands, I'd say Those Bastard Souls, Nouvelle Vague, Television Personalities, Gorerotted or PsychoBitches In Bin Bags.

  22. Ahhh, oh my God! I remember watching The Secret World Of Alex Mack religiously, I'd forgotten all about it! Didn't she get affected by a chemical spill or something, and that allowed her to turn into liquid form? And from then on she just tried to escape the chemical company...wow, childhood memories flooding back. They don't make 'em like they used to.
  23. The Futurama game > Bart's Worst Nightmare > any Simpsons game on PS2, Gamecube or XBox I can't imagine a Family Guy game working, though, it doesn't lend itself to a video game format as much as Futurama did... To be fair, very few sitcoms should ever have a game based on them, it just doesn't make sense.
  24. Blood for PC had some awesome cheat codes that'll I remember for the rest of my life: For God mode it was either "I Wanna Be Like Kevin", "mpkfa" or "cap in my ass". For Temporary God mode it was "Voorhees" To turn God mode off it was "no cap in my ass" All Weapons was "Lara Croft" Level Skip was "Calgon", "Mario" or "Luigi" 200% health was "Spork" 200% health with diving suit was "Cousteau" 200% health and on fire was "Krueger" Rise Of The Triad was awesome, because instead of just making you invincible, God mode allowed you to throw lightning bolts, and because there was also a "Dog" mode for some reason. The best cheats ever, though, which I can't believe no one's mentioned yet were on Age Of Empires. I learned to touch-type by typing "Pepperoni Pizza" on that game, and some of the cheat units were the best thing in any game ever. PHOTON MAN~!
