  1. I don't mind if a band expresses their political/social views through their lyrics. Some bands lyrical content is humorous, some is dark, some is political, it all depends on the band. I happen to listen to alot of bands whose lyrics are primarily politcally oriented. However keep in mind, I do not listen to music for political views. Simply put, if the music is good, and the vocals go well with the music (no matter the content) then I'll listen to it. One technique I do like is Jello Biafra's approach to using politics in his music. Basically his songs come from the point of view of whom he believes the villian to be (Kill the Poor, or California Uber Alles for instance). I also believe that some of these musicians have valid opinions, but I find it hard to take bands like RATM, Pearl Jam, etc. seriously with the lucrative deals they have recieved in the past. Of course, that doesn't mean they should not be allowed to express their views to the public. I've read alot about older punk bands, and many of them kept themselves informed through various sources of media or literature. Groups like the Dils, Feederz, Dead Kennedys, Reagan Youth, etc. are all examples of this. Another group The Offs touched on a wide variety of political and social issues. The vocalist Don Vinil touched on homosexuality (he was homosexual himself), racism, workers rights, drugs, and more. So in short, I have no problem with any band using any kind of political message. Of course I have to draw a line in the case of bands like Skrewdriver, whom I could never support.

    Primus

As the topic says, I saw Primus live on Friday night. With out a doubt, that was the greatest show I have ever seen, even topping Elvis Costello last summer. They were simply amazing, and had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hand. I always knew Les was a great bass player, but this show also showcased the incredible talents of the guitar player and drummer. They were the only group to play, playing two sets. The first set was an variation of different songs, and the second set was the complete "Frizzle Fry" album. Towards the end, Les stopped for a second because somebody tossed beer at him and said "Wow, will the ignorant piece of shit that threw beer up here head for the door? Kick the piece of shit out of here". The crowd really got on whomever the fellow was that did that. They also had three circular screens above them, which towards the end of the night flashed "Lakers Suck" to the approval of the crowd (remember, I'm in Michigan). All in all, a great fucking show, a show that kept me dancing the whole night.
  3. I think some people might be missing the point here. The fact is, this guy was a fucking asshole for scrambling over the top of a person for a foul ball. A fucking foul ball, is it really that important to get a foul ball, so important that you could cause injury to somebody (be it a little boy/girl, middle aged person, or senior citizen). I don't think their is any justification for nearly harming a person for a greedy purpose (Yes, I believe jumping over a person and nearly kicking them in the face for a foul ball can constitute as greed). My guess is this Matt fellow didn't go after the ball thinking "Well if I grab this ball, then more than likely, people will see me as an asshole, and shower this young boy with nice gifts". This Matt fellow went after the ball out of greed. It is refreshing that he has admitted he was wrong, and will give the ball to the boy.
  4. This may sound funny, but at 31-34, I'm pretty happy with the Tigers thus far. When you look at the past decade (and even before that) we have been a fucking piss poor team. Right now, I think with Pudge's leadership, and some solid young prospects, we can be a playoff team within 2-3 years. Hell, if our pitching staff were any better, we could definitely contend for atleast a wildcard spot. Let's not also forget that Dmitri Young missed alot of the early part of the season, and he usually heats up along with the weather. With Young's bat back, we can only get better, and even Bobby Higginson and Brandon Inge are stepping up for us. I am also really liking Rondell White, Carlos Guillen, and Alex Sanchez as well. I really need to get out to Comerica park for my first time, as tickets are easily accesible. If I could do one thing differently with this team, it would have been keeping Mark Redman.

    Pulp Fiction

This is a classic movie. My dad had me watch it at a young age, and I loved it from the begining. Heh, something about Pulp Fiction can bring a father and son together I guess. It was years ago that I first saw it, but to this day my father and I constantly quote it. For example, I gave him a call when it looked as if the Pistons were championship bound, and he said to me "Let's not forget one thing Rick, a wise man once said 'Let's not start sucking each other's dicks just yet'". By the way, I like the username Dead Rats, it's very cool. Is it a reference to the Doors?

    Metal

For some excellent porn metal, I'd suggest the Mentors. Their lyrics are chauvenistic yes, but are clever in their own way. However, I am a huge fan of the Mentors because all three of them are excellent musicians. El Duce the lead singer and drummer also claims that Cortney Love offered him a few grand to kill Kurt. He is seen on the Kurt and Cortney documentary. Other metal bands I'm partial to are Nevermore, Slayer, and D.R.I's later stuff for some AWESOME thrash, or even Suicidal Tendencies later stuff, for some AWESOME funk metal.
  7. That is a quote from a friend of mine I know via Yahoo messanger. Take it for a grain of salt if you wish, but that is what he told me. I would assume he most likely isn't lying, we share quite a similar interest in music, and are both huge Ramones fans. I really hope he is feeling better, I even listened to the Ramones last night in case Johnny really is sick and dying. I've read Johnny was hard to get along with, but I really hope every thing turns out great for him. I'd be depressed if we lost another Ramone.
  8. Ok, now we're seeing a bit more eye to eye here. Those statistics do not lie, another thing that can be said for Rasheed is that we lost 3 times to NJ before we got him. The next time we played them we won, the only time he played with us against them in the regular season. First and foremost, I'm hoping that Corliss is no longer a part of our team next year. I enjoyed his run here, he did well, be he's obviously slowing down, and he's not quick and athletic. If for some reason Rasheed leaves, then I would develop Tayshaun, Mehmet, and Darko. I would tell Tayshaun and Memo that it's their time to shine, and let Darko come along slowly. I also think Larry needs to develop more confidence in Memo, Memo has showed flashes of brilliance, but I think he has been stifled slightly by Larry Brown. Basically I'm hoping that we can keep Rasheed, dump Corliss, use Memo as a sixth man, hope that Delfino can make an immediate impact, and pray that Darko shows some signs of life.
  9. Yes Rasheed was hobbled by injuries in the first 2-3 rounds, as was Chauncey Billups. Like I said, Rasheed put us over the top, I'm not denying that. At this point in time, I'd have rather had Rasheed playing, because he is currently the better player. However, Okur's youth and intangibles make me believe that he can become a very good player in a few years. He has shown that he can shoot from anywhere on the court, hustles on the rebounds, and also plays solid defense. My arguement was simply that our role players were not the ones to walk into this situation, Rasheed was. I also stated Memo could have averaged similar stats as Sheed' did. I admit that Rasheed gave us an intangible that Memo' may not have given us. For the record, Memo' has played big time for us in the clutch when we have needed him. I'm not talking on a Michael Jordan scale, but hitting free throws and open jumpers when necesary.
  10. Rasheed definitely helped put us over the top, I'm not denying that. However, Rasheed also did not put up the big numbers many were expecting from him. There were countless games throughout the playoffs that he went flat, and could not score. The reason he was brought to Detroit was to add another scoring dimension to this team. Our defense was already the top's in the league before he joined our crew. In my humble opinion, Mehmet Okur could have produced similar results, he is a skilled and versatile player. To say our bench did nothing in the playoffs is laughable. Part of the reason we hung in games is because we have excellent depth. Our role players did their part, they were not expected to come in and average 20 and 10 (like Rasheed was). You obviously missed the excellent defense that Lindsey hunter played, or Mehmet Okur's hustle on the boards, which kept many possessions alive for us, and even Elden and Corliss drew fouls and got us to the line when necesary. I hope that we can keep Rasheed, but if we don't then I have total confidence in Mehmet. As for your tirade on Larry Brown, I can't comment since it had nothing to do with what I said. However, Larry Brown was brought to this team to win a championship, not build a dynasty. This team has been built to win now, and the mission was accomplished. So basically, I don't see Larry leaving this team worse off than it was. Considering we have a title under our belt, and our core of players is relatively young. Yeah it is a shame, but it's the nature of sports. Every team has their players who ride the pine, or don't play due to development. Just look at the NFL, guys like Barry Sanders and Dan Marino are without Super Bowl rings while other guys that only played 1-5 years have a ring, due to the fact they found themselves picked up by the right team at the right time.
  11. Eck, trust me, you'd feel much better after seeing Cemetary Man. Isn't Jack Frost made by the same people that did "Uncle Sam"? Uncle Sam is a pretty lame one as well, it even has the same kind of cover as Jack Frost. I can't explain what the cover is, it's one of those things where the picture will change depending on the angle you look at it from. Basically from Snowman to Evil Snowman or Uncle Sam to Evil Uncle Sam. (Heh, some may argue Uncle Sam has always been evil)
  12. Ok so our role players such as Corliss, Mehmet, Tayshaun, and Hunter all walked into a great situation, yet Rasheed was here after them, and you are happy for him? From my view, it appears that Rasheed was the last to walk into this great situation (and Mike James of course). I don't understand why you wouldn't also be happy for the role players, the role players make a huge difference. Everybody, from the front office, down to our last man on the bench deserved this ring. I'd much rather see Larry get his first, as opposed to Phil Jackson getting his 10th (speaking of somebody who has walked into a great situation or two). As for T-Mac vs. Kobe, it's a tough decision. I like Kobe's defense, but I like how T-Mac can throw up the ugliest shots, yet hit them most of the time.
  13. If you are accepting requests, then I suggest the movie "Cemetary Man", however it might be hard for you to find. The only time I have found it was at a local video store years ago, and it's not even available on DVD. However, if you do come across this movie then you will love it. Their is also an Italian version of the movie (which is the original I believe) called "Delamante Delamore" (I spelled that wrong most likely). To give you an idea on this movie...imagine an extremely dapper, classier Ash who takes care of a cemetary, and kills zombies ala Return of the Living Dead or George A. Romero's series of flicks (we all know what those were). The movie is ridiculous, but anybody who likes a goofy horror flick will love this. I wouldn't even say it's cheesy, the character reminds me alot of Ash with his snide comments.
  14. Everybody that doubted the Pistons, and that isn't limited to people on this board, but every sports analyst, writer, and/or anchor shall now dine on this... Ok, all joking aside, let me first tip my hat to Joe Dumars. Without Joe, this team may never have been assembled. From the begining of Joe's term as GM, he has made shrewd move after shrewd move, and last night he enjoyed the fruits of his labor. This really was a huge moment for me, I've been a long-time Pistons fan, dating back to the Bad Boys (when I was still only a youngin). I remember watching Isiah's last game, the drafting of Grant Hill, so many wasted first rounds in the mid-90s, a couple of bad years, and then Joe's new look Pistons. I have to give credit to each and every Detroit Pistons player as all of them throughout the season have come up huge for us, at one point or another. So again, congratulations to my Detroit Pistons, the fans of Detroit thank you and love you, and hope to be here again next year. As for next year, we have Carlos Delfino coming from Argentina. I'm excited to see him play, as he has drawn comparisons to Michael Finley and Manu Ginobli. I've also heard that Rasheed was still liking the interest New York has shown him. Of course I can't fathom any reason for Rasheed to leave D-Town for NY (money sure, but the Pistons can still offer him a nice contract). Even if Rasheed does leave town I wont be bummed, because I think we have a very special player in Mehmet Okur. I am happier than a pig in shit in right now, and I'm going to enjoy this title.
  15. This is surreal for me, seeing the Pistons continue their winning ways. I am thrilled that they have taken the 3-1 lead. I have been following this team for a number of years since their back to back championship in 89-90, and 90-91. It is great to see the Pistons one game away from the NBA crown. I am prepared to celebrate like a mad man if things go as they should for the Pistons. I know many hate the Pistons style of basketball, but I love it. I love it for the simple fact that it wins games, even if it is dirty. It has also been nice to see the Pistons prove that they can score, despite what many of their detractors initially thought.
  16. I don't think we're going to be seeing that from Malone, I think he's really hurting right now. I give the man all the credit in the world though for playing on a bad knee. Malone had a good point when he said "If this is going to be my last season, then what am I preserving my body for?".
  17. Everybody, please do not associate this multiple account fool with us Pistons fans. Respect to naiwf for pointing out that not all of us are like that. Even being up 2-1, us Detroit fans can't get cocky. When the Pistons win 4 games before the Lakers, then the celebration begins, but until that happens I stay humble.
  18. I like them for what they are, just loud, fast punk rock. I do think their look is a bit over the top, as if they are going overboard with the "punk" look. Their actually decent guys though, they'll drink up with their fans after shows. Probably wont happen at the Warped Tour, but when they play smaller venues they'll hang out with their friends. Some friends of mine were supposed to hang out with them after a show, unfortunately some fucking nazi assholes cancelled that plan for my friends.
  19. Great to see the Pistons take game 3, if we win this series I will mark the fuck out. It would be nice as well, because I am so fucking sick of hearing about the Red Wings. Detroit is crazy about Hockey, but I think Basketball has taken over as the top sport in Detroit. Tonight's unsung hero was Lindsey Hunter, that man busted his ass. In fact, Hunter has quietly played an excellent series for us, with his incredible D and great hustle. I think Byron Scott had the quote of the night with "It's time to stop figuring out what's wrong with LA, and what's right about Detroit."
  20. This is excellent news, I have always liked the ESPN football game better, dating back to when it was the 2K series on Dreamcast. I think the graphics, and controls are much better then Madden. I've played Madden football games since they were on Sega, and I have never enjoyed them.
  21. Okur's a very good player, but with Rasheed his playing time has been cut. He went from starter, to a bench player. However, I think he should be our sixth man right now, not Corliss Williamson. Mehmet is not only a solid defender, but he can also score from anywhere on the court. I also like Mehmet's hustle on the boards.
  22. When I was in 8th grade, I got Korn's "Follow the Leader" for christmas because I thought I liked them. After hearing it the first time I felt so guilty for asking my parents to get it for me for Christmas. I honestly felt bad that they had wasted their money on such a shitty album. That cd didn't last too long, it sound found itself in the used section of a local record store.
  23. I know a fellow in St. Louis that I exchange music with, so he can give me a good idea of the Bad Religion I should check out. Speaking of psychobilly, The Reverend Horton Heat played a show here not too long ago. I fucking missed that...god damnit. Since you're from Canada, I'd like to ask if you have ever seen Nomeansno live? If you haven't heard them, then hear them soon. Absolutely fantastic group, As a matter of fact, I looked up the Refused's bio on AMG, and Nomeansno was listed as a similar artist to them. Another good festival that may have been a one shot deal was the "Holiday in the Sun", which was alot of old school punk, crust punk, and other shit. The only band I remember from the bill was Anti Nowhere League, and they rule.
  24. The only band on the bill I'd have any interest in seeing would be The Casualties, and even then I'm not a huge fan of them. I've heard only a small sampling of Bad Religion, the song "We're only gonna die". That is a pretty damn good song, and if the rest of their stuff is like that, then I could get into them. There was also a smaller tour going around, it was a "Punks vs. Physcobilly" kind of thing, the only band I heard for the tour was The Business. I wish I could have caught that.
  25. I think our best bet for guarding Shaq is to continue the rotation of different bodies on him. I think both Mehmet Okur and Elden Cambell did an admirable job of guarding him in game 1 (I missed almost all of game 2, so I can't comment on how those two did, I do know Elden was in early foul trouble, had 3 before the second half correct?). I still like the Pistons chances of winning this series, and I think they should be encouraged that they took one game in L.A., despite this "HEART BREAKING LOSS!!!!" in game 2. It's a shitty loss, but the Pistons have come back from tough losses through this playoff series. This series is about to get interesting, and even if the outcome is another Laker championship win, I'm still proud of my Pistons for a very good season. As a side note, I'm fucking pissed off that I couldn't get tickets to game 4. They only released 2000 tickets to the fans, 1000 for internet buyers, and 1000 for people going to an actual box office. I love how they kept the rest of tickets for the "important people" as opposed to making every ticket available, for the true fans.
