  1. The name of the band you are looking for is Strawberry Alarm Clock. That's a very good song, but I think it was the only hit this band had.
  2. Big win for the Lions today. The defense really stepped it up and did a good job of forcing turnovers and getting pressure on Carr. The run game was also kept in check for the most part, and Chris Cash performed admirably filling in for Dre' Bly. The Lions offense looked shaky at the start, but heated up in the second half. Roy Williams is looking like he's the real deal, and I'm quite happy I picked him up in my fantasy league. Kevin Jones also showed some flashes, he should have had more touches.
  3. Holy shit, I am listening to that song as I read your post. Weird.... A top 20 songs? Jesus, thats tough, this is in no particular order. One thing to keep in mind, this list usually changes weekly. 1. Madness and Death - Nomeansno 2. Beyond and Back - X 3. L.A. Woman - The Doors 4. A Growing Boy Needs his Lunch - Dead Kennedys 5. Destruction Unit - Feederz 6. 100 Dollar Limo - The Offs 7. Electric Funeral - Black Sabbath 8. Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud - Black Randy and the Metro Squad 9. Vietnam - Minutemen 10. I wanna be your dog - Iggy and the Stooges 11. The Way I Walk - The Cramps 12. Ain't Nothing to do - The Dead Boys 13. Communist Eyes - The Germs 14. Jesus was a communist - Reagan Youth 15. Kids of the Blackhole - The Adolescents 16. Billion Dollar Babies - Alice Cooper 17. Liars Beware - Richard Hell and the Voidoids 18. I don't wanna walk around with you - The Ramones 19. Manic Depression - Jimi Hendrix 20. Straight - Unsane
  4. I remember it being in the theatres because I saw it. My cousin and I saw all three in the theatres together. We used to be huge Ninja Turtles fans. As for the poll, I voted Pulp Fiction. The movie is a favorite of mine, but Shawnshank is also up there.
  5. I saw Sloan a few years back at the 89x Birthday Bash (89x is a radio station in Detroit). They were alright, not really my kind of thing, but they did put on a good show. Our Lady Peace, Quarashi, Dashboard Confesional were also there. The only reason I went was for an ex-girl, normally none of that stuff is for me. The concert wasn't terrible though, they kept it lively. Except Dashboard.
  6. 1) How should MLB punish Texas reliever Frank Francisco? There is no excuse for throwing a chair into the stands. I'd say until after next year's all-star break. 2) Should Francisco be prosecuted for hitting two fans with a thrown chair? He should be forced to pay for any damages he inflicted on the people. 3) Who is most responsible for the incident escalating out of control? It depends, if the fans were uttering racial slurs then I could understand the player flying off of the handle. However, if it is your typical "You suck, you bum, you loser, go to hell, shut up, etc.." kind of heckling, then the player is out of line. Heckling is part of professional sports, get over it. 4) Which was the worst incident between fans and on-field personnel? Anytime a fan has been physically struck by a player I'd say. I can't think of one specific incident. 5) Which sport has the most unruly fans in the United States? Baseball. Seems as if there are alot of instances of fans jumping on the field, and being general morons. 6) Was Monday's incident an isolated event or indicative of a growing problem in sports? Isolated event. 7) Should MLB partition off bullpens at all stadiums? No. 8) Should the sale of beer be halted by the seventh inning or earlier at all stadiums? Yes - because not only will it prevent people from acting like idiots, you also wont have a bunch of drunks on the road after the game is over.
  7. "Go Now" by Richard Hell (the same Richard Hell of Richard Hell and the Voidoids) is a good one. It's a story about a junkie named Billy living in New York, it's basically about he and a girlfriend of his driving from NY to Las Vegas. It's a good read, lot's of strange happenings occur throughout it.
  8. Nomeansno, The Hanson Brothers, and D.O.A are really the only ones that I can come up with. There is no such thing as a bad Nomeansno album, everything they record is gold. Two, Lips, Two Lungs, and One Toungue is a great song, from their best album "Wrong". I also like Rags and Bones, Madness and Death, Cats Sex and Nazi's, Obsessed, Sex Mad, Graveyard Shift, and...geez so many more. Nomeansno may very well be my favorite band. The Hanson Brothers are an offshoot of Nomeansno featuring the Wright Brothers. The band is based off of the Hanson Brothers from the old "Slapshot" movie with Paul Newman. D.O.A., an oldie but goodie. Nothing like blasting the song Disco Sucks, because disco does suck. "Saw some people stomping around, saying DISCO SUCKS DISCO SUCKS". Great hardcore band, that ventured out to California and played with many of the L.A./Orange County groups of that era. Race Riot...don't buy it.
  9. This is terrible news. It seems that the last few weeks have been a string of bad news for me. This just tops everything off. Johnny Ramone, the man influenced so many to pick up the guitar and play it at blazing speeds. It's incredible that Joey, Dee Dee, and Johnny all died nearly one after the other. The Ramones opened my eyes to punk music, and it's all thanks to them that I got into the punk scene so exstensively. Johnny will never be forgotten, his style has been emulated by countless guitar players throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00's. We lose another great... R.I.P Johnny Ramone. He's heading to the great gig in the sky as they say.
  10. An excellent book, I say this alot, but something about those stories I enjoyed better than the movies. It's really due to the fact that there is so much more detail in the story. As for books I've read and am reading recently: Pulp Faction (The Revenge of the Rabbit Kisser and other jailhouse stories) by Mark Brandon Read. This was a very good book that my cousin found at a used book store. It says "other jailhouse stories" but, all of the stories are connected. Mark Brandon Read is/was a convict in Austrailia, and actually became a hitman who took out criminals. Currently I'm in the middle of a book called "England's Dreaming" (Anarchy, Sex Pistols, Punk Rock, and Beyond) by Jon Savage. It's been a very interesting read thus far, it's filling me in on alot of stuff I had never known about the Sex Pistols and how they were formed. Alot of it is familiar to me, but this book is filling in alot of minor details I wasn't aware of. After I finish the above mentioned book, I'm going to read "Rotten" (No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish). This book is the autobiography of John Lydon a.k.a Johnny Rotten. A friend of my dad's managed to get this book autographed by Johnny himself at a book signing in New York a few years back.
  11. You should check out the movie Suburbia, they perform "Richard Hung Himself" live in the movie. There are two different Suburbia's, this is the one from the 80s. T.S.OL. and the Vandals are also in this movie, as is Flea who plays one the kids in the movie. The acting is a bit poor, but it's still a damn good movie to check out.
  12. Lard - Great industrial band, composed of Jello Biafra and the members of Ministry. The Hanson Brothers - The Wright Brothers of Nomeansno second band. Similar to Nomeansno, excellent stuff. D.I. - Casey Royer and Rikk Agnew formed this group after they being members of the Adolescents. Great Orange County punk band. Catholic Discipline - Side project of Claude Bessy a.k.a. Kickboy Face, he was an editor/writer for Slash magazines in the late 70s. Craig Lee (bass player of the Bags/Alice Bag Band), and Robert Lopez (guitar player for the Zeros) eventually replaced Richard Meade as the Keyboard/Synthesizer player. The band formed because the members of these bands wanted to explore other instruments they were not accustomed to. You can also see them on the Decline of Western Civilization.
  13. I'm curious Thuganomic, are you from Michigan? I've noticed from your posts in the sports bar that you're a big MSU fan. Too stay on topic, I'll comment on Baron Davis. He'd be a huge pick up for any team that could land him. He put up some good numbers last year, and could potentially give a team that last added piece to make a championship run.
  14. I'm also highly dissapointed to see Rogers injured again, it's almost annoying to me. Detroit is cursed when it comes to injuries, or our strength and conditioning coach is terrible. Here's a funny statistic: Before joining the Lions Dre Bly never missed a game, be it High school, college, or with the Rams. Last year he joins the Lions and the injury bug bites him, and did again yesterday. Regardless, the Lions are still vastly improved, and will be able to survive the loss of Rogers due to the depth at WR. As for the game against Chicago, the defense was impressive, and our special teams was as well (despite giving up a big return at the end of the game). Joey looked decent, but not overly impressive. Of course, it didn't help that there were four dropped passes that should have been caught. I completely disagree. The Lions won because they forced turnovers, and scored when it was necesary. The defense worried me in the pre-season, but they looked alot better yesterday. Bracey Walker may have played the best game of his career. Don't feel too bad, I have Culpepper and Farve, and I decided to start Farve this week. My logic was the Dallas D would be tough on Culpepper (which it obviously wasn't). I went with Farve also because he typically plays big on Monday Night's.
  15. Can't forget Manning and Harrison, especially when many are predicting the MVP honors for Manning. Of course...I'll be partial to Joey Harrington/Charles Rogers/Roy Williams (but Rogers may be out for a bit now... )
  16. I wondered this myself. Why exactly is Paris Hilton a celebrity? What talent does she possess to make her a celebrity? She is good looking, but I would never consider her drop dead gorgeous. Can somebody pinpoint what made her a celebrity? She had to have had some fame before the sex tape, because obviously nobody would care about a random person's sex tape (random person as opposed to a celebrity).
  17. Moss manages to torch Detroit every year, but this year the secondary will be the strength of Detroit's defense. I would place more money on whomever Minnesota's running back is, against Detroit (be it Bennett, Williams, or Smith).
  18. Charles Rogers is going to have a big year I think. He seems to have a nose for the end zone as well, he'll be a good guy to have. The rest of the team is pretty solid, unless Winslow is a bust, or Vick is hurt.

    The Clash

Some might prefer the original by the Crickets. Myself, I prefer the Clash version of that song. Overall though, I'm more of a Dead Kennedys fan. I like the Clash quite a bit, but there not my undisputed number one favorite. There's a few bands I rate above them, but that's me. Some of my favorite tracks that weren't listed are Jail Guitar Doors, London's Burning, Know Your Rights, Brand New Cadillac (I also recommend checking out Billy Childish and thee Milkshakes cover of this), Jimmy Jones, and Clash City Rockers. I do have their Essential Clash DVD, and it has alot of great footage. We definitely need more threads like this one. Edit - A story my dad once told me about the Clash... He saw David Johansen aka Buster Poindexter (the lead singer of the New York Dolls) open for the Clash. The story is, Johansen put on a great performance, and really had the crowd going. The crowd was dissapointed when he left, and booed the Clash once it was their time. They had things tossed at them, the people wanted Johansen back. It's a funny story, I can't picture the Clash getting besmirched like that. Although, an old friend of his who was also with him at the show, said it was an off night for the Clash. It happens.
  20. Pro Football Reference I always recommend this site, for people who want to gain a bit of knowledge on the NFL. It has stats for players and teams, so you can look over the players stats from last year. After you have learned some of the football terminology from above sites. This site will show you which players put up the big numbers. This can give you an idea on who some of the elite players/teams are.
  21. Oi Polloi has awesome album art... Oi Polloi - Total Anarchoi Oi Polloi - Outraged by the System Nothing like a band posing in the dark by a brick wall... The Dead Boys - Young, Loud, and Snotty Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers - L.A.M.F. This a pretty cool cover as well... Condemned 84 - The Boots go Marching In
  22. While it may be true that Vick is a different style of Quarterback, he'd still be considered in the elite, if he proved to be part of the elite over a period of time. If he plays up to his potential, I see no reason that we can't mention him with Manning and Farve. As for Manning and Farve, both are smart, and know the right time to run the ball. While they definitely are not as skilled as Vick when running, they both make good decisions on when it's time to run. That's not to say Vick runs too much either, because I think a Quarterback with speed is a great weapon.
  23. I understand that Vick has great tools, and can produce when he is healthy, but I like to see some long-term progress. I'm never going to buy into a player being the second coming of Jesus until he's proven he can put up big numbers consistently. So far Vick has one good season under his belt, the other two he barely played in. +----------+-----+---------------------------------------+-----------------+ | 2001 atl | 8 | 50 113 44.2 785 6.9 2 3 | 29 300 1 | | 2002 atl | 15 | 231 421 54.9 2936 7.0 16 8 | 113 777 8 | | 2003 atl | 5 | 50 100 50.0 585 5.8 4 3 | 40 255 1 | +----------+-----+---------------------------------------+-----------------+ | TOTAL | 28 | 331 634 52.2 4306 6.8 22 14 | 182 1332 10 Those are decent stats for three seasons with limited playing time, but like I said, talk to me in 2006 and I'll tell you if Vick is still overrated. I think it would be ridiculous to mention him in the same breath as Manning, Farve, or Tom Brady.
  24. Well, I never did like those damn juggalos. I'm just trying to defend the honor of Faygo. Learn more about Faygo
  25. Or let's look even further into Faygo, and understand that ICP are not the founding fathers of Faygo. Faygo has existed since 1907, well before ICP were around. Faygo has been a staple of the Detroit metro area for years, and is quite popular here. People don't drink Faygo because ICP tells them to, alot will buy it because it's a cheap alternative to Coke/Pepsi. You think the large amount of senior citizens in Detroit buy Faygo because it's cheaper, or because ICP told them to buy it? ICP advocate Faygo, because Faygo is a big part of Detroit, and ICP is trying to represent Detroit. As far as I know, Faygo doesn't even branch out of Michigan, except for a few bordering Midwestern states.
