  1. Just when you thought the Lions were deflated, they come out of NY with a big win. Joey Harrington showed great maturity by rebounding from a terrible game last week. This was definitely his best performance of the season, and I hope he can continue playing at this level. The defensive line simply abused Kurt Warner all day, registering six sacks. Kevin Jones and Roy Williams also added touch downs, and my belief is both are going to continue to get better as the season wears on. I think Detroit may just have a shot at the Wildcard spot in the playoffs this year.
  2. I'll call for a Pistons repeat this year. As good as the Pistons were last year, they've gotten even better this year. With the additions of Carlos Delfino, and Antonio McDyess, we have greatly improved our bench. Add a healthy Derrick Coleman, and you have insane depth at the big man spots. I also have reason to believe that guys like Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, and Tayshaun Prince will improve their scoring output this year, as all three are still fairly young. As a sidenote, I will be attending the Detroit Pistons home opener, when they raise the championship banner. I'll report back here after the game, and talk a bit about the glory of banner raising.
  3. And make that a third echo. I've had the memory card and system since GTA 3 came out, and haven't had any problems. I've even removed the memory card while the system was off, and still no problems. Although, awhile back I rented "Showdown: Legends of Wrestling" and it started freezing at a certain point, then again, that game was so fucking glitched. A friend of mine told me his PS2 stopped working after excessive DVD watching. Has anybody else heard of that problem? You might want to try taking your game back, maybe the store you bought it from can help you.
  4. Holy shit, I can't believe the sickening performance from the Lions yesterday. I don't think I've seen Detroit play that bad as a whole in awhile. The defense could not stop anything, our running game went nowhere, Joey Harrington sucked ass, and the play calling wasn't exactly creative. I'm hoping that this is just a small bump in the road, and not a sign of things to come. I was really high on Joey, but his performance was so bad, that it's hard to support him until he can put up some real numbers. Joey never really has had a huge game statistically.
  5. I really can't give my opinion on the state of music of 2004, I really have no clue who any of the current bands are. I'm aware of some of the marquee names, but none of it interests me at all. In fact it's been a few years since I was aware of anything happening in mainstream music today. I don't watch MTV at all, and I never listen to the radio, I always pop a cd in instead. Nobody these days really play music that is appealing to me. None of it makes me want to get up and move, or it's lacking other qualities I look for. As for punk bands, I can probably supply a few names for you. 77 Style - the Dead Boys, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, The Saints Hardcore - Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Adolescents, Reagan Youth, Agnostic Front, Heart Attack, Bad Brains, The Germs, Battalion of Saints, Fear Oi - Sham 69, Cockney Rejects, Angelic Upstarts, Peter and the Test Tube Babies, 4 Skins, Condemned 84 Other good stuff - UK Subs, Feederz, Husker Du, Minutemen, The Dils, The Cramps Don't let my suggestions limit you.
  6. Glad to hear that, I think anybody could get into the Minutemen. I actually recommended them to a friend a few weeks ago, and he also really dug them. Their stuff is readily available at pretty much any record store, or multi media centers. You could always try allmusic.com, and listen to 30 second clips.
  7. I got some stuff that I think fits your criteria. Nomeansno - Madness and Death, Rags and Bones, Sex Mad, Life in Hell, Tired of Waiting. Minutemen - Vietnam, Jesus and Tequila, Tony Gets Wasted in Pedro, Shit from an old notebook, This aint no picnic, Nature without man X - Beyond and back, Nausea, We're Desperate, Johnny Hit and Run Paulene, White Girl The Saints - Wild about you, Demolition Girl, Kissing Cousins, One Way Street, Stranded Black Randy and the Metro Squad - Say it Loud I'm black and I'm proud, Shaft theme (cover), Marlon Brando, I wanna be a nark, Idi Amin, Barefootin on the wicked picket You should find as much of these bands as you can, wether I recommended the song or not.
  8. Madness and Death - Nomeansno Self Destruct - The Adolescents Get the Ruler Out - Reagan Youth Maybe Partying Will Help - Minutemen A.C.A.B - The 4 Skins Scum - Oi Polloi
  9. You could try Quarashi, their lead singers sound like the Beastie Boys. I'm not a huge fan of them, but they put on a damn good live show.
  10. I almost started to feel some pity towards Green Bay, until I realize they've been a thorn in the Lions side for years. That was just a pathetic display last night by the Packers, and I honestly see them having a top five draft pick this year. Farve's tank looks as if it's almost on E, Ahman Green can't hold onto the ball, and the defense is simply atrocious. Although, Farve is still a scary QB to face, and I'm sure he still has a few big games left in him for this season. Sorry A-Dub, but I can sympathize. And how ironic, me vs. you in Fantasy, the same week as Det vs. GB. Weirrrddd....
  11. I just read a report at the Detroit Lions website, and Roy Williams does not have a high ankle sprain, and is only day to day. That is great news, it's possible he can play this Sunday, and Dre Bly will most definitely be back. Also Boss Bailey is looking for a return sometime in November. For as good as the Lions D have played without those two, it should only get better when they return.
  12. A huge win for my Lions today, defeating the Atlanta Falcons. I was very impressed with the Detroit defense today, and they continued to create turnovers. Unfortunately Roy Williams was injured today, but hopefully he wont be gone for an extended period of time. I can't believe we have lost our top running back, two top WR's, our top LB, and our top DB. How does a team overcome those injuries? Hopefully Roy and Bly will be back for next week, but I'm not sure how badly Roy is injured. Bailey and Jones will also be back eventually, but they are definitely missed right now. Without Williams though, we have no threat on offense, and it could turn out to be a big problem if he's out for a long time.
  13. Smashing Pumpkins - I used to be a huge fan when I was younger, but now I rarely bring them up. Billy Corgan's vocals kind of push me away. Blondie - What can I say? I have a soft spot for Debbie Harry and her group. Duran Duran - The album "Rio" isn't half bad, I've been caught listening to it before. G.G. Allin - One of the sickest, most vile men in all of rock history. When he was backed by the Jabbers and Scumfucks, he produced some great rock tunes. I also like alot of 50s rockabilly, surf, do wop, etc. but I don't know if that's really a guilty pleasure. This is a great song, the album Here are the Sonics has so many gems on it. The Sonics were actually a Kingsmen influenced 60s garage rock group out of Seattle. Although, there apparently was actually a Sonics of the 1950s, but not the same as the Boss Hoss performers.
  14. This may not be true for everybody, but I've noticed that most people that can play guitar, can typically pick up a bass for the first time and play it coherently. On the other hand, a bass player might have some trouble with guitar, when playing guitar for the first time.
  15. I always thought Biohazard was pretty good, and the hip hoppish lyrics are found in most of their songs. Wrong Side of the Tracks was always one my favorite songs by them. Judgement Night is another good one that the rap group Onyx had a helping hand in.
  16. Call me queer if you wish, but I have never found this woman all that attractive. Something about her looks too artificial for my tastes. I admit, I like a good pair of D.S.L. on a woman, but I think Angelina's are a little too outrageous. I'd take Jacqueline McKenzie (a bit of an obscure name), or Deborah Harry circa 1977 over Angelina any day of the week.
  17. I don't know if I'd completely swear off Oysterhead, but it is definitely alot different than anything Les has done. It's actually a surprise that I enjoyed anything by Oysterhead because I really hate Trey Anastasio and Phish. But I think Oysterhead is worth a listen, if only to hear Les's excellent bass work on "Mr. Oysterhead". Edit - I will admit that Oysterhead isn't exactly a favorite of mine, but as they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
  18. Ah man, I'm really sorry to hear about this. I give my deepest sympathies to his family. Dangerfield made so many of us laugh with his jokes, and great sense of humor. One of my all-time favorite Dangerfield quotes comes from the movie Caddyshack. I'm not sure if this is the exact quote, but here goes... "That's a good looking boy you got there", then he turns around and whispers to somebody "Yeesh, now I know why animals eat their young". R.I.P. Rodney Dangerfield
  19. Anywhere you start with Les Claypool is a good start. However, Primus is probably the best place, since it's where he has gained most of his notoriety. I personally like DMV, My Name is Mud, Mr. Know it All, Too many puppies, The Devil Went Down to Georgia, Tommy the Cat, and Seas of Cheese. Primus CD's can be found for a ridiculously cheap price on Half.com. I have had the privelege of seeing Primus live, and they were fucking great. Oysterhead is another good project of Les Claypool that also involved Trey Anastasio and Stuart Copeland. Some good songs from them are Mr. Oysterhead, Shadow of a Man, and Pseudo Suicide. Sausage is another great Les Claypool lead group. The only album of their's I know of is "Riddles are Abound Tonight", and I highly suggest picking it up. Prelude to Fear, Riddles are Abound Tonight, Shattering Song, and Recreating are a few of my favorite tracks off of that album. As for the Flying Frog Brigade and Bucket of Bernie Brains, I can't make any suggestions because I haven't heard enough of them. However, if Les Claypool is involved, it's a sure bet that you can't go wrong with any of their songs. As a matter of fact, Bucket of Bernie Brains are going to be in Royal Oak soon, so I'd like to secure a set of tickets for myself
  20. Rock and Roll High School definitely comes to mind, as well as Detroit Rock City (not the greatest movie, but has some very funny parts, even if I don't like Kiss). Although my favorite is hands down "The Decline of Western Civilization", there really is nothing like it. It's not exactly a full feature film, but more of a documentary. I haven't seen any film (other than Suburbia, which is by the same director Penelope Spheeris) that really gives such an in depth look into the punk scene. This film deals specifically with LA in the early 1980s, and has some great performances on it. It also has some interviews with a few fans, the bands themselves, club owners, and security guards. This may be the only video available that has footage of Catholic Discipline and the Alice Bag Band, which is a shame.
  21. Credit to espn.com It is true Dragon. It looks like the injury bug is biting hard in Chicago, must be contagious when you play in the same division as the Lions. ^_^
  22. I just saw this last night, and it's probably the best film I've seen in the cinema for quite some time. This movie had me rolling, there were so many different funny parts in the movie. I found it funny when Ed said "Sup Niggas" when he pulled up with Shaun's parents in the Jaguar. It was funny because it wasn't something I'd have expected to here from him, and the way he said it sounded funny to. It was also funny when Shaun meets up with his female friend (forget her name, the one dressed in cammo) and her entourage is an exact replica of his. I hadn't even heard of this flick until I saw this thread, and the girl I was with told me to pick the movie, so I rolled the dice on this. Nice choice.
  23. I wouldn't call any of these bands underground. "96 Tears" was much more than an "underground" hit, and the Sonics, Monks, and Zombies all had pretty good followings. Not on the scale of the say the Beatles, The Who, the Doors, etc.., but certainly not underground. And for the record, The Monks and the Sonics were great, that is if you enjoy that kind of thing.
  24. Strawberry Alarm Clock might not be a bad start, they were mentioned in a previous Simpson's thread. The Monks are very good, there are elements of acid rock and garage in their songs. Frank Zappa is definitely some experimental rock from the 60s you can look into. Iron Butterfly is an obvious choice to look at. They had alot of very good tunes other than In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. The Sonics are another excellent group from this time period that are worth a shot.
  25. I'm dissapointed that the Lions lost today, but Philly is no joke. We simply were dominated by a superior team. Roy Williams was a bright spot today, and is already an early favorite for NFC offensive rookie of the year. I'm so glad we traded with Cleveland and took Roy (which could stand for rookie of the year...) over Kellen Winslow.
