  1. She had and changed her name to Shuhada Sadaqat while keeping Sinéad O'Connor. You can see in recent photos and the video above she often wore a hijab or other head and body coverings which i do not know the exact name for. I sat at home yesterday watching literally 90% of my social media turn into a Sinéad O'Connor memorial. The Presidents website crashed because too many people were trying to read his tribute to her. Her death as moved a lot of people here. Even me who wouldnt have been a huge fan. Then came stories, pictures, videos. The obvious being the SNL clip, followed by the Bob Dylan tribute show. Its worth remembering in doing that she was drawing attention to child abuse in the Catholic church before anyone else. Other images that came up again and again are detailed below which include her protesting for abortion rights in Ireland and at an anti racism demonstration. I have never listened to her albums. She was someone you couldnt really escape though. There are duets she did with Willie Nelson and Shane McGowan that I quite like. The only other solo song of hers I have good knowledge of (outside the obvious) is her cover of John Grants Queen of Denmark
  2. I do love a weird little summer friendly cup win celebration. Its so meaningless but the players always seem happy

    Country Music

The genre of Country and Irish music is really more Irish people aping American country style with often quite cheesy production. Maybe you get a bit of Irish trad mixed in. I definitely reccomend finding JTEs debut ep Yuma. I never really listened to anything after his second album. His dads tribute album is pretty good although the fact it exists is pretty sad.

    Country Music

I grew up in rural Ireland and my dad is a farmer who came of age when rock n roll and country influenced music was the big thing for Irish youths. There was always country music in my house. My dad had tapes of Patsy Cline, Kenny Rogers, Marty Robbins and Charly Pride that lived in our family cars. My brother had Randy Travis and Garth Brooks albums. Garth Brooks was immensely popular here. Im more of a Chris Gaines man myself. So there was quite a bit of US country in my house and some of the Irish variety (which is... a thing ...and its horrible) As a teen I was big into Johnny Cash. I really only like Johnny Cash's American Recordings. That said I can't get into the earlier stuff as much. There is a lot of Johnny Cash and a lot of it is kinda samey, kinda over produced and thats a great swathe of his career tbh One of my first gigs ever was seeing Willie Nelson live. I can take a lot of Willie's overall oeuvre than I can Cash. He's really just a lot more interesting as a songwriter and the outlaw style that he helped spearhead was just more interesting. I enjoy Kris Kristofferson too. He made a lot of albums that no ine listened to probably. The man wrote songs about supporting the Sandinsitas, anti gulf war and iraq war songs and just got political in a left of center way that you don't get in county music. Speaking of lefty musicians in the country sphere. I became a pretty big Steve Earle fan for a while too. His mid 90s to early 2000s are all really great. Steve Earle led me to Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark (who I also managed to see live once). I had Justin Townes Earles first EP and his first couple of albums but never kept up with it. Whether you could really call those guys country probably depends on your definition. Ive also got that Chicks album where they responded to all the hate they got for their anti Iraq comments and the Toby Keith album with Courtesy of the Red White and Blue on it. The only reason i have it is it had a duet with Willie Nelson on it. Willie is also the only reason i have anything with Kid Rock on it in my music collection because they did a duet.
  6. Here she is performing Nothing Compares 2 U on Irish television in 2019.
  7. This is sad. She had years of mental health problems and lost her son a few years ago too. 56 is too young and she was so talented.
  8. Ive watched Crash (1996) and But, I'm A Cheerleader (1999) in the last couple of days. Crash is definitely exactly what I expected. Its quite obvious why certain elements freaked people out. But its a great movie. But Im A Cheerleader is good too. Its got great and very 90s in set design. The plot is fairly standard rom com but with high school lesbian Natasha Lyonne. It was really strange to see her when she was 19 or 20. Both had actors from films I'd watched a lot as a kid. It was really weird seeing Elias Kotas in Crash having only ever seen him in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie. While Dante Basco pops up in But I'm A Cheerleader and until then he was simply Rufio to me.
  9. Have you watched Touch of Evil yet? It would be in that wheelhouse.
  10. Souness AFAIK hasn't done anything officially with the club since he left as manager. Owen has been a club ambassador (and might still be?) but the one time he showed up for a legends game he was booed. I think your right though. There is as much disappointment in Henderson as there are people who either are confused by the objections to the move, telling other fans they're virtue signaling and rationalizing it by talking up the benefits of getting an older player off the wage bill. In a few years he'll be in legends teams.
  11. Probably. I don't think Graeme Souness or Michael Owen have really ever been fully embraced again. But Torres was.
  12. He'll do things the old fashioned way and drop down divisions, become a player manager and then go into after dinner speaking.
  13. To steal a point made by someone on a podcast i listened to earlier all this gives creedance to the kind of people who see any kind of display of acceptance for marginalized communities as virtue signaling. It also makes you feel like no player in the Premier league is going to be beyond taking the money for move to Saudi Arabia. Getting a current England international and captain of the only other team to win the Premier league in the last few years is a big deal
  14. On the one hand John Darnielle needs to slow down. The Mountain Goats have been pumping out albums like crazy lately. On the other an All Hail West Texas sequel!? Sign me up!
  15. Would he actually play or will it be a a youth player/coach role akin to Paul McShane before him and Jay Spearing at Liverpool?
  16. My understanding is that big player turnarounds after a period of success is a thing in baseball because you can just have a few crap seasons and there's less risk (ie no relegation). I think there's an element of that here. As well as the shake ups behind the scenes, the knock on effect of the 21/22 season, Klopp's attitude of not wanting to keep anyone who wants to leave. Henderson is leaving is certainly ahead of schedule due the whole Saudi thing. I think in another universe (perhaps one where hitting the post counts as a goal ) where the Saudi thing isn't happening Henderson would stay a few more years. I think its a faustian deal for Henderson. It makes him look like a poseur or naive to think his previous pro LGBTQ stance will be something he can carry on in the Saudi League. It also damages the very cause he had championed. I listened to a spokesperson from Kop Outs on a podcast earlier say the amount of abusive messages they've gotten speaking about this news. It looks like done the thing that football always does which is put money over everything. I don't personally think I can look at his time at Liverpool the same now. I have no such qualms about Firmino nor would I have for Fabinho. They've never made having a social conscious part or their brand. Some comparisons were drawn to Robbie Keane for taking a job in Israel. Keane hasn't ever come out and said anything about Palestine in his life. I think both he and Gerrard (especially Gerrard) are pretty much admitting defeat as managers at this point.
  17. My gut feeling here is that Henderson has made a reputational mistake taking the money and running to Saudi Arabia. He had a fairly principled reputation to this point. He was the captain of captain in the Premier league during lockdown. The LGBTQ advocate. His personal career story that saw him go from being on the verge of being swapped by Brendan Rodgers for Clint Dempsey to being winning everything for Liverpool. The image he had fostered over the years is at odds with a move like this. It feels like that is all quite tarnished now. Kop Outs Issued a statement about Henderson (and Gerrard later in a reply) earlier today:
  18. Henderson's LGBTQ+ advocacy is the first thing that sprang to my mind when this came up. Is 700k a week worth losing all that good will and trust? I land somewhere between you and Colly on this. A current Premier League captain going to Saudi Arabia would be a massive transfer. Even if it doesnt happen with Henderson and it happens with someone else. Its not great. On top of the already not greatness of the rampant capitalism already at play in the Premier league.
  19. Unfortunately, Jordan Henderson is also being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia now
  20. I didnt mention Jose Holebas was manager of Arsenal in game when i posted this. Shortly after he was sacked with Arsenal in 16th at Christmas. A few weeks later he became manager of Peterborough United in the Championship
  21. I am trying to see if there's anything interesting manager-wise in my FM16 game. Ryan Giggs is Chelsea's manager. Ryan Shawcross is at Everton. After stints at Bournemouth, Brentford and Arsenal - Steven Gerrard is currently unemployed. Jamie Carragher is at Reading. Brendan Rodgers is managing Atletico Madrid. Thomas Tuchel is managing Bayern Munich. Christiano Ronaldo is managing Vsitória de Guimarães Zsolt Löw, who I guess is Tuchel's IRL assistant manager, is Man City coach. Poch is managing Real Alymeric Laporte is the manager of Napoli. Zidane is the Portugal manager Jurgen Klopp is managing Spain. Vincent Kompany is at Dagenham and Redbridge Ryan Bertrand is managing Luton David Moyes managed Napoli to a league title before retiring. Ronny Della is managing PSG.
  22. I guess Ivan figured it's about time he Split
