What music are you listening to?

Eluvium's Copia. Because most of the catalogue is electronic-tinged I tend to only listen to the solo piano An Accidental Memory in the Case of Death, but a chance re-listen to this one makes me want to listen to all his stuff again. Really dreamy stuff, perfect for relaxing.

The Meh:

59. John Mayer - Paradise Valley (The very definition of middling around. Katy Perry appears because they're together, Frank Ocean appears because why wouldn't he? The urgency that made everything up to his Trio work is gone, replaced by front-porch jams that are aimed squarely at cementing him as Clapton's replacement. Problem is, Mayer hasn't and probably never will have his "Layla", "Tears in Heaven", "Sunshine of Your Love", etc. etc. Point is: he ain't even close.)

60. The Band Perry - Pioneer
61. The Goo Goo Dolls - Magnetic
62. Atoms For Peace - Amok

63. Robert Randolph & The Family Band - Lickety Split (More of the same from arguably the only lap steel player most non-audiophiles can name.)

73. Yo La Tengo - Fade
74. New Order - Lost Sirens
75. Tomahawk - Oddfellows
76. The Cab - Symphony Solider
77. Device - Device

78. Kanye West - Yeezus {Please, do yourself a favor. Stop listening to mainstream rap. There's so much better out there.)

80. Mumford & Sons - The Road to Red Rocks (Live)

The DO NOT DO:
81. Hanson - Anthem

How have I only just discovered this? The guitar on this is just pure sex.

That's a hell of an album. You ever check out Richard Hell and the Voidoids? You might dig it if you want to hear more oh his work after Television. Blank Generation is an absolute classic, one of the best albums from the NY punk scene of the late 70s.

Just listened to this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ynsdmd0jkj8

93.3 WMMR here in Philly played it today, doing their Back to School A-Z thing they do yearly. They played the Patti Smith and Bruce Springstein versions. But this, being recorded in 1993 when I was 12, is the version I know best. Plus Natalie Merchant when she was 30 is cute as hell...

  • 2 weeks later...

New Avenged is just unabashed, modern-day arena metal. They've landed somewhere between prime Motley Crue and Iron Maiden.

Panic's "Vices & Virtues" was better than it had any right to be (but so it goes with pop rock bands produced by Butch Walker). This new one I'm a bit leery on, though I felt the same way when "Mona Lisa" came out before. Will definitely check it out first chance I get.
