What music are you listening to?

So after hearing metalman rambling about it endlessly, I finally sat down and listened to Paul McCartney's Ram, a record I did end up liking more than I thought I would. I have never been a big fan of The Beatles particular brand of pop music but I liked how Ram, at points, differentiated from the Lennon/McCartney recipe. Tracks like "Uncle Albert", "Smile Away" and "Monkberry Moon Delight" hit me if you want specifics. The last one especially, since I kept being reminded of Black Monk Time which is a fantastic proto-punk record. All in all, I did end up liking it but I guess I was not as impressed as I wanted to be. Granted, I am by no means an expert in McCartney's catalogue - I think the only solo record I've heard besides this one is the jazz record he released last year, Kisses on the Bottom.

Also re-listened to the new Godspeed You! Black Emperor record. And I still like it. I just like how they apparently decided, like Daft Punk, to not give in to all the clamoring for more crescendo-based post-rock and made a louder and modern record instead.

In my continuing exploration of the Roskilde Festival 2013 line-up, I gave Goat's World Music a spin also. And that one, man, that one really hit me. I cannot wait to hear these psychedelic sounds live. But it so much more than that. It pays tribute to Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and all those guys while still maintaing this worldly sound; bongos, hand-claps and Hammond organ are all spread across the album. It really is a fantastic album.

And finally, because I got totally jealous of Midget and his whole list thing, I made my own list of 2013 records. It still needs some polishing and I still need to give another listen to stuff like Justin Timberlake, Charles Bradley, Tomahawk and David Bowie (and then there is stuff I have barely grazed yet, like the new Dillinger Escape Plan, Thundercat, Queens of the Stone Age, Disclosure, October Falls and Boards of Canada when that hits). But ha, take that Midget, you aren't the only with a list!

Great, great, great band. Even on the tracks from "Gloss Drop" that are kind of a miss, it's still interesting to listen to all the tricks they pull off.

Because deli mentioned their debut album, today I decided to listen through (almost) the entire Battles discography... again. Because man, those first two EPs that they put out, EP C and B EP, is some of the most head-spinning minimalist rock I've heard in a long time. Couple that with Mirrored and Gloss Drop, which is almost the complete opposite and just tons of fun, and Battles could very well be my favorite modern rock band. At least, they are giving Suuns a run for their money. The Tonto+ is a good hit too, although the live version of "Leyendecker" is a bit off. The two remixes of "Tonto", by The Field and Four Tet, are great though.

Speaking of electronic music, and since they are playing Roskilde Festival, I finally decided to delve into Kraftwerk. Listened to Radio-Activity and Autobahn yesterday and honestly, I can totally see why this was so mind-blowing back in the early 70's. Both feels perhaps a bit faded with the rapid expansion of technology available for electronic music but I did still enjoy Radio-Activity quite a lot. Still not quite sure on Autobahn although I think it is going to end up taking the same place as Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother; the first track, this big and dominant post-20 minute epic, sort of overshadows the rest of the album but it is so good that I don't really mind it at all, I am still going to listen to the whole thing, the album that is, just to get the complete package.

And finally; Midget, yes we should. That would be hilarious.

Now, list time. I stole more of Midget's concept. Sue me.

I listened to Alice in Chain's new album a week or so ago and, whislt it wasn't bad by any means, it didn't really capture my attention. It was very linear.

Also, after Tumblr staff made some sort of music post featuring a playlist, I checked out a song on ther called "Favourite Song" by Chance The Rapper, ft. Childish Gambino. I liked it so I found Chance's new free mixtape Acidrap and I like it, it's really mellow and trippy. For me, it took a while to get used to his high-pitched voice, but it's good nonetheless.

The new Black Sabbath album is amazing.

Question: How come that I can't edit song information anymore on Windows 7? Like genre, title, artist, album?

For most audio files, you can right click the file, select Properties, then click the Details tab. Barring the file being read only (something else you can change in Properties) or your audio player giving you the beans, I can't think of a reason you would be unable to change it.
