What music are you listening to?

7. The Flaming Lips - The Terror (This is the year of the moody record, it seems.)

Is that any good? Thinking of picking it up.

Well, I thought it was good. It kinda sticks to the avant-gardness of Embryonic a bit, as well as being very, very ambient. So if you're not a fan of that side of their discography then it's not for you.

Say Anything's self-titled album is so.. just so outright amazing.

It used to be for me that it was almost all - but this past month I've just been listening to the whole thing on repeat, even grabbing all of the demos that encompass most of the album itself. The whole thing is flat out amazing and making me wish that they'd come around here or at least somewhere relatively close. Also makes me sad that I genuinely don't like the majority of Anarchy, My Dear.

I just realized that over a year of touch and go listening to the Mariana's Trench album 'Ever After' (something that I downloaded with the intent of listening to one song that was on the radio I couldn't get out of my head) I have at some point or another become aquainted to and gone through heavy periods of listening on every single track on it. Damn catchy kids.

Funny how the exact same thing happened to me, with the same band but with Here Comes the Waterworks from 2007. I went in with only any real interest in "Hands Up" but through repeated spins ended up loving the entire album.

Concerning the purpose of this thread, yesterday I was on a big post-bop trip since I, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z64OB3NiXFQ, discovered Father Figures, a band in the vein of BADBADNOTGOOD or Det Nopsus. They were thoroughly impressive so of course I went out and bandcamp'd their newest EP immediately, the Bad Bad Birds EP. And I followed that up by listening to BBNG and BBNG2 yet again; if there was anyone who could renew interest in jazz music for a young crowd, it would be those guys. Especially BBNG2 is particularly fantastic.

Also, I have been obsessing over Shugo Tokumaru these last few days. Apparently all his albums are on Spotify so I decided to just tear through them. Port Entropy, which was apparently his breakthrough record, is probably my favorite so far but it is so different compared to what he put out on Night Piece and LST, so it is going to be hard to decide. If you like somewhat bubbly indie-pop with a tint of traditional Japanese music, give Port Entropy a listen. If you want some more experimental and really a good representation of "this is actually just a guy in his bedroom" the before-mentioned Night Piece or LST are the way to go. Overall though, Tokumaru is just impressive all-round

Lastly, Junip. I have only heard two songs but I love them already. "Line Of Fire" has been an earworm lately. And I can't get the video out of my heard. I mean, just look at it!

And the follow up too!

Swedes be some crazy-ass motherfuckers.

I love all of Here Come the Waterworks as well, but I noticed it more with Shallows because I was a tad cold on some of the album at first, but eventually it all became kickass to me.

Savoir Adore? I didn't think they would be your cup of tea!

Oh wait...

Their songs, Dreamers, used in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 songs

That's where I first heard them, obviously.

But there's 4 or 5 other quality tracks on that album.

^ this and "I can't help falling in love." Don't mind a bit of Elvis every now and again.

I went to Graceland and stayed in the Hearbreak Hotel, this performance is pretty much on a loop 24 hours a day, in the rception, the corridors, the lift, the restaurant, there's a TV channel in the rooms showing it looped, another showing an Elvis documentary over and over. And so on.

It sounds great, and the performance is, but it is also possibly the most depressing hotel in the world.

Fair enough! I actually bought one of their previous albums because I liked a track they gave away free with a magazine. The single song was really good but the rest of the album wasn't so great!

Give this one a go. It's fun. Empire of Light, Sparrow and Loveliest Creature are the better tracks, as well as Dreamers, of course!
