I have only heard bad things about this game. People in my politics class have played it before and the general jist is - horrible game, too laggy etc and full of bugs.

Somehow I think people who have (in most cases) been playing EWR for years might have a different opinion than a politics class.

I assumed that to play this kind of game you'd have an interest in politics. >_>

Like the Irish know anything about politics :shifty:

In all seriousness, it works great for me? Maybe some of them should spend some money on a decent PC? I've only had 1 bug, when I was the USA and fighting against China/Korea/Ireland/Iran/Switzerland and pretty much all the other enemies of the free world and tried to assassinate my wife, it crashed.

Started playing this last night. I'm having fun, but there is no way I'm playing "right". I usually lose office within a month.

My first game was as Canada, though I was a conservative prime minister (no idea how to change who is in power). I was probably the worst conservative PM ever, legalizing gay marriage, taxing guns and smokes and fast food, increasing culture and education spending. I didn't balance the budget (how the hell do you do it? I cut all the military money >_> which is all of 2 bucks and a stick of gum, but whatever). I made it to the last week of January before I was deposed.

Also, I negotiated with the Chinese Mafia and the story got leaked, which was probably part of the problem.

Second game was with some place in Africa that starts with an M. Forget the name now. Had my popularity up to 76-78 (compared to Canada, where I was 35 or so) but again, overspent and made it about 2 weeks before being deposed.

My current game is with the US. I am now using the strategy of making small changes and then simming a month or so. Yeah, I'm doing alright thus far, have my popularity in the high seventies but I don't imagine that will last. Trying to pull all my troops out of foreign countries, which will probably leave Iraq to be taken over by extremists but whatever, screw them. (I'm the best president ever.)

Seeing the positive play in this thread makes me want to pick it up. Maybe a little closer to X-Mas when I have more money.

Got my reputation up to 100 in my US game. Not really sure how, since I haven't done anything major. Gave a bit more funding to researching agro-food, rails and sumo wrestling (>_> Let's be honest, US, that's where you're heading. I may as well make it a national sport). Honestly, I have gotten little flack (other than from negotiating with some dictatorships and even then, it's nothing because I'm basically telling them to reform). If this were anything like real life, the Republicans would be calling me a socialist. And they'd probably be right.

May have to start up a game as North Korea or something and start a war. I want to war, though I will probably get nuked to death pretty quick. Would be fun for a quick play.

I wouldn't pay more than 20-25 bucks for the game. It's really fun for a while but I have a feeling it would become tedious really quick to people who don't like stats.

Nothing pleases me more than starting a game as China, instantly taking over Mongolia and then the two tiny countries near the South (Nepal and something else <_<)

Then developing said super-state, then launching a simultaneous attack against Russia and the USA.

Sure it's essentially genocide, but fuck it, it's awesome :D

Bhutan?

You should at least take the trouble to learn the name of the places you subjugate. :shifty:

Pirate can also be a verb. Everybody is pirating software because they are pirates.

And as long as they're not contravening the board rules no one will get banned. :)

Hitting the thesaurus lately? <_<

It's not as if it matters, within a week or so it's just China <_<
