Ben needs to buy a dog for the next time he needs companionship. Anything to get him out of the casinos and college bars.

And the next question is, who's next for the Jets? Is Rex making conjugal visits to Plax?

seriously. A good number of teams would've offered way higher then a 5th round pick for Holmes...

Maybe. I mean he will be suspended for 4 games and next year's his contract year so it'll cost the Jets a lot of money to re-sign him.

He's essentially a rent-a-player who is one strike away from a year long suspension.

But I'd have to think someone would've been willing to part with more than just a 5th.

The Jets probably would have been willing to part with more than just a fifth. The Steelers were just dumb enough to accept only a fifth. tongue.gif

I doubt it.

The Steelers were coming at this with absolutely no leverage. They were obviously desperate and the Jets definitely didn't NEED Holmes. So they probably figured since he'll miss 4-games this year and essentially be a rent-a-player they'd offer a 5th rounder and if they didn't get him, oh well.

The Steelers were prepared to cut Holmes anyway, so they probably would've taken anything for him.

Stupid move not at least waiting until the NFL Draft.

Mike Wallace, from what I watched last year, could ease into the role as a top WR for Pittsburgh. It might be too early for him to really reach that point, but for the long-term this decision doesn't hurt Pitt. After all, in 2 years time I think it's probably unanimous that Santonio will be Plax'd out of the NFL.

With the draft closing in, the 2 things I really want to see the Ravens add are another TE (in the early rounds too, someone who we think can contribute right away) and Corners. Some help on the D-Line and a little more depth at LB would be nice, but barring injuries I feel pretty confident about both those spots. This is one of those years for Baltimore where we have to do everything in our power to win, the defense is aging fast and really is going to need a serious rebuilding effort over the next few years. The offense is young, but no team can win without solid defensive contributions.

Wallace is just a speed guy right now. I like his chances to develop into a #1, but until he does the Steelers are hurting.

Hines Ward cannot get open anymore unless he's in the slot. Without Holmes, he'll have to play on the outside. Randle El is a decent slot guy, but he's nothing great. Arnaz Battle is okay. If Limas Sweed can finally get his shit together, the Steelers will be fine. Big if though.

I'm doing a board-wide mock draft on another board as the Ravens. Jermaine Gresham and Rob Gronkowski would be great picks for them at TE. And there are good CBs to be had in the later rounds.

This year's draft is the deepest in years and I would love to see the Steelers trade out of the first round and pick up extra picks in Rounds 2-5.

Do you guys think that Goodell will end up suspending Ben or just slapping him on the wrist with a warning? I think he almost has to sit him for at least 4 games in order to keep up the appearance that the "personal conduct" policy actually matters. If he doesn't, then I think there will be a lot of racially motivated comments made by some of the league's more outspoken players.

Sam Bradford is NOT worth that. Cleveland has too many holes and just hired a QB guru as president. God all these teams just want to rebuild on the fly and they never get anywhere. Take 2 years to do it, don't blow your load over one guy who's just going to be wrecked by the time the rest of the team catches up.

Yeah, that's way too much for a QB who just missed almost an entire season due to injury and would be heading to a team that is more than one player away from contending. It always amazes me how much NFL teams are willing to pay for a QB coming into the league, but they would never dream of swapping 1's, AND giving up a 1 and/or a 2 for a proven commodity in the league.

Holy hell, the Rams should take that offer in an instant and take Clausen at 7. That seems like an awful lot for Bradford but I understand Cleveland having reservations taking another Notre Dame guy and Bradford really is their guy go get him, because if he becomes a true franchise QB it'll be St.Louis with egg on their face. I guess it didn't work out too bad for Eli and the Giants, one Lombardi later, while Rivers and the Chargers continue to choke to this day even with the extra picks and a Hall of Fame running back.

I sure hope Roethliberger gets banned for the sake of everyone, nobody should be allowed get away with causing this much negative press for the NFL and the Steelers themselves. I reckon he gets off scott free mainly because he's a 2-time Superbowl winning franchise QB, while if it were Pacman or even Vick, he'd probably be banned for a whole season.

Chase, you see the Steelers being in the Golden Tate/Demaryius Thomas/Arrelious Benn market?

Unfortunately, yes.

I'm hoping for Maurkice Pouncey at 1.18 but it would not surprise me if the pick is Tate. Benn might be the pick if he makes it to Round 2.

I think Goodell will suspend him for 2 games. I think the Rooneys might just add on an additional 2.

Not to start a debate but...

- Ben has never been arrested. Vick and Pacman were.

- Ben has never been charged. Vick and Pacman were.

To compare Ben to those guys is stupid for the reasons stated above. Hell, Donte Stallworth killed a guy and missed a season. Ben hasn't even been arrested.

So to say that if he were Vick or Pacman he'd be banned for a whole season is faulty reasoning because if he was one of those guys he would've been arrested and/or charged with something. He hasn't.

And also, just to point it out, Ben didn't get off because he's a 2-time Super Bowl Champion. He got off because there wasn't even enough evidence for probable cause and so he couldn't even be arrested. I know you mean "scott (sic) free" as in, no suspension, but I just wanted to clarify things.

And if I were Goodell, I'd suspend Ben for the season opener, make him enroll in the league Substance Abuse Program, fine him $1 Million, and send him to counseling.

Can you get substance abuse counselling if the substance you abuse is college girls?
