Two Premier League footballers have been arrested after cars were damaged in Newcastle city centre.

Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole and striker Nicklas Bendtner were held in relation to an incident in Stowell Street on 6 December.

The pair, both aged 23, were later bailed pending further inquiries, Northumbria Police confirmed.

Sunderland AFC has not commented on the arrests, which were on suspicion of criminal damage.

The police force has not released details of how many cars were damaged.

A spokesman said: "Police can confirm that on 15 December two men aged 23 were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

"It follows an investigation into cars damaged on Stowell Street in Newcastle city centre which happened about 10pm on 6 December.

"The two men have been bailed."

Lee Cattermole, originally from Stockton, started his career with Middlesbrough.

He joined Sunderland on a £6m transfer from Wigan Athletic in 2009.

Nicklas Bendtner, a Danish international, is currently on loan at the club from Arsenal.

And on the England front, Wilshere is back mid-February according to Wenger, so good news there.

Apparently kicking wing mirrors off cars parked up near the Casino as rumours go. You'd think they'd learn. Bendtner after shouting in a pizzeria because his card was declined and Cattermole is banned from every pub in Middlesbrough, but some people are just thick as shit.

To be fair Cattermole probably tried to put his foot through the window, missed and took out the wing mirror instead.

If found guilty, since it's all just alleged at the minute, I can't see O'Neill taking too kindly. Cattermole was Bruce's best mate so may not have figured in O'Neill's plans anyways and Bendtner hasn't really done much to suggest he should be kept on anyways. I had an inkling neither would be here next season, I guess that's just been strengthened when I found out this story early this morning.

It would be great if he could get a solid three months in before the Euro's with no setbacks, I see him as our main man in midfield next summer.

Oh and apparently Kieron Dyer, who has only played 7 minutes all season, has been ruled out for the rest of the season. No suprise there then.

Edit:

Kieron Dyer will play no further part for Queens Park Rangers this season after suffering another injury to the left foot that has kept him out of action for four months.

Standard Sport understands Dyer limped off just minutes into his comeback match for the reserves against Tottenham on Tuesday after a blow to his foot.

Dyer, who signed for Rangers as a free agent after being released by West Ham in the summer, will have an operation on Monday to cure the problem, but faces several more weeks on the sidelines.

He has been out since being carried off seven minutes into his debut against Bolton on the opening day of the season. Dyer suffered a chipped bone and a ligament injury and it is believed the ligament, which is below the bone, is now the cause for concern.

The former England international was only given a one-year contract when he joined Rangers due to an injury record which had seen him play just 30 games in the previous four years at Upton Park.

The club also added a clause to further protect themselves which stated that they could break the deal in January if he was having more fitness problems.

However, manager Neil Warnock told Standard Sport today that they will stand by Dyer even though he will no longer be a part of his first team plans.

He said: "We are aware that Kieron's contract can be terminated in January but having spoken to the chairman (Tony Fernandes) and the rest of the shareholders, we do want to support Kieron in this time, even though it may mean he is not in

our 25-man squad for the rest of the season.

"I feel he has a lot to offer the club not just on the field of play but in every aspect. We will be involving him in many aspects of the club while he rehabilitates.

"The specialist said he thought Kieron could return before Christmas without the need for an operation, and is disappointed that this is not the case. He has no alternative now but to operate.

"Kieron is devastated. He has been to see a specialist and it is a very unusual injury. He will have an operation on Monday to rectify the problem."

The news has come as a crushing blow to Warnock, who was willing to give Dyer a chance to resurrect his career despite many people saying he was taking a gamble.

Warnock praised Dyer as the best player in pre-season and had been impressed with the way he was battling to regain full fitness.

The former England midfielder had been working hard in training for several weeks in order to be ready for Rangers' hectic Christmas schedule but faces another long spell of rehabilitation and will not play for the club again this term.

Woodgate conceded a penalty and as a result was substituted. Bet he's a happy camper.

Well, he was already on a yellow card, and could have got one for the penalty and been sent off. Pulis probably just realising he was on a hiding to nothing today.
