Which type of athletes do North Americans celebrate?

In the US, I'd expect mostly baseball, basketball and football players, Tiger Woods if he's having a good year, and maybe one or two "other" athletes to make it seem like they're being inclusive.

In Canada, it'd be almost half hockey players, a couple baseball or football players or golfers who have had success in the US, and the rest would be Olympic-type sports to make it seem like we're being inclusive.

Anyway yeah his season's been good - first British World Champion cyclist since Tommy Simpson in the '60s.

First British green jersey winner in the Tour de France ever.

At the age of 26 he's already got 20 Tour de France stage wins which is just TWO less than Lance Armstrong got in his entire career.

Two stage wins at the Giro d'Italia (second biggest cycling stage race after the Tour).

Awarded MBE which is pretty rare for a bicycle person.

Also he's moving to the British cycling team (Team Sky) for next season so cycling will be covered more on the news, sport and on TV.

The best part of all is that he gets angry when people ask him stupid questions or make stupid comments. He also believes he should win so gets upset when he doesn't. Pretty much what the best athletes do in other countries but not Britian cos we prefer a "plucky loser" who will then appear on pizza adverts or Loose Women.

Also, like most people don't like cycling, I don't like golf. No interest in it.

There's been lots of guff about there being no women on the list of nominations. Well today it has been announced that Rebecca Adlington (6) missed out by one vote. Keri-Anne Payne (five) missed out by two. Amir Khan (7) received the lowest number of votes of the top 10, one vote ahead of Adlington and Jenson Button. Others who came close: Alistair Brownlee (5), Keri-Anne Payne (5).
