I had a run of bad luck with the 7970. Although when it did work, it worked wonderfully for the games I was playing (which i could easily have used a lesser card but still).I had it replaced after 6 mths and then again about 18mths later. Not sure what the problem really was but I ended up switching to a gtx770. So far so good. Haven't tried any big games on it yet though.

So after joining the uni's gaming society and hearing practically all of them go on at me about Dota 2, I've decided to see what the fuss is about.

What am I getting myself into here?

A shitty ass game.

Play League of Legends instead :)

They talk about both, but they all said Dota was the better one <_<

Will probably get League anyway because pretty much all of them are PC gamers and I'm just there like 'So, FIFA anyone?' :shifty:

Is it on Steam or do I need to go buy it somewhere? Dota being free was another swaying factor when I looked it up.

DOTA and League are pretty hardcore team experiences. Be prepared for a lot in fighting and command yelling. It's not the sort of game you kick back and enjoy with your friends. Like the difference between playing Laser Tag when you were a kid and playing Paintball as an adult with that one guy that brings his own equipment. >_>

It isn't that you need to expect to be bad at it, it's that you need to expect for you to apologise in advance, to point out it's your first game and for someone on your team to still yell at you, call you hopeless and blame you for losing about 2 minutes into your first game.

Oh I don't have a microphone, so I can't talk to them; and if my entire play time is spent fucking things up for more experienced players, then it'll pretty much be like all my other online gaming experiences.

I fully expect a few of the society will be able to help me out so I'm not just constantly dying.

No microphone in League, all text. And it is also free.

Ask Plubby about it, he just recently started playing and is now hooked.

To sate my racing and management game cravings, I found an old game called ''Grand Prix Manager''. And to my surprise the modding community is alive for that 15 year old game too, and it had a 2014 mod.

In essence it's just another management game, but with an F1 team. You hire designers, engineers, and mechanics, and you assign them tasks like designing a better turbo system or different aero parts.

Then you woo sponsors in adding their labels to your cars, helmets, and suits to get extra money. And you test the car to try and maximise it's abilities...

Oh and you get to sign drivers, which includes test drivers. And there are even pay-drivers if you need extra money, which is useful when you're trying to go into the deep end from the get go...

Anyways, it's a pretty basic and old game. And it's extremely hard to get into. I tried to be foolish and start out with Caterham, and as expected I got my ass handed to me in every race because the car is a piece of shit.

I doubt anyone here has played the game, or even heard of it. But who knows, maybe someone has and can give me some pointers, because real guides are hard to find.

That is all...
