I did just pickup Jade Dragon because it was on sale for 7.50 USD and it turns out it is recommended for the Elder Kings mod

Yeah, I always disable the actual invasion aspect, regardless of if I'm doing regular CK2 or GoT. 

 

It's honestly hard for me to judge which ones are worth it vs which ones aren't, also having started CK2 about 3 years into it's life, a lot of the earlier expansions I missed out on seeing just how much they impacted the game, but here's the ones they've added since then and my thoughts: 

1) Conclave. Conclave is a mixed bag, since it does give a much needed overhaul for childhood education, but you can also run into problems with the council, since they now have certain legislative powers. Some of them may call in favors on you to form an otherwise unfavorable marriage with one of your kin, or to get a specific spot on your council, displacing a pretty good advisor. Powerful vassals get pissed if they don't have a seat on the council, etc. It's an okay one to grab. 

 

2) The Reaper's Due. Get this. This is a good one. 

 

3) Monks and Mystics. Not really needed. The evil cults lose their novelty pretty fast. On the other hand you can finally tell an allied army where to go. 

 

4) Jade Dragon: Adds CHINA! and new CB's. It's a decent one. 

 

5) Holy Fury. You want this one.

Haven't played this for a while - have the free updates made a significant difference to the game, or only really if you end up purchasing DLC?

I'll try; I mean, what all are we interested in? I'm starting in 8001 as Aegon the Conqueror (cause incest  ), and I want to have this game go at least 100 years. 

 

Also, running a few additional mods with this to spice things up:

Bye Far East - Removes from play a lot of the shit none of us really care about. 
Marshal Matters - Makes it so that uh...it effects the swordsmanship skill of kids. Pretty nifty
Better Education - Helps with education, I think. IDK .
Knights of the Sword Tower - Adds a few flavor events, as well as opinions concerning the Kingsguard. This one is actually pretty neat.
