2013 Summer Transfer Thread

Really?

In the last 10 years, Bayern Munich have won the Bundersliga 6 times. The other titles were won by Stuttgart, Wolfsburg and Dortmund.

In the last 10 years, Manchester United have won the PL title 6 times. Other titles were won by Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Seems pretty even to me.

You've got 3 Chelsea wins plus one each for Arsenal and City...so in fact only 5 titles for United.

(I only point this out because it was probably one of the Chelsea wins being miscounted. :shifty:)

I don't see how players moving between rival clubs makes a league weaker. It's just because we're a lot more tribal.

For instance, look at the clubs Cassano and Pirlo have played for. It's not a big deal.

The point is that when the second-best club weakens itself and directly strengthens the best club by selling them their best players, it creates inertia within the league which increases the gulf between one club and all the rest.

This doesn't apply, for instance, with either your cited Italian examples:

In 2012 Antonio Cassano moved from Milan (2nd place) to Inter (6th place).

In 2001 Andrea Pirlo moved from Inter (5th place) to Milan (6th place). Although he had been on loan elsewhere for two seasons anyway.

In 2011 Andrea Pirlo moved from Milan (Serie A winners) to Juventus (7th place).

My point was more related to the pointless citing of British examples - movements between rival clubs rather than 1st and 2nd place clubs.. I don't care what happens in the Bundesliga.

Werder Bremen won it too. And Schalke and Leverkusen have been runners up. At the very least it's a bit more competitive than the Prem, which makes me wonder how it can be a joke if the Prem's not.

It's a joke because the runners-up are selling their TWO best players to the champions. As already stated.

Tevez? Maybe, but that was just a weird deal.

RVP? No way. Arsenal are gash, they're not one of United's rivals for the Premiership.

Gallas? It's Gallas. Seriously, come on. He was not vital to Chelsea's side in the same way Gotze or Lewandoski are to Dortmund's.

You're really clutching at straws here. Or just arguing for the sake of it, perhaps.

Arsenal are a top 4/5 side that regularly makes the CL, and is one of only 4/5 sides with any real shot at the PL title as it stands. What that "shot" is, is irrelevant as they are one of only a very, very small set of clubs that could actually do the job. The fact that they sold their best player to the Champions, best team, and direct rival is the same thing.

We can qualify things all we want but it's all beside the point.

Top clubs in all leagues sell to other top clubs. There is nothing about these transfers that makes the Bundesliga a joke.

EDIT: I worked this out from 2002. My bad, but still, speaks for itself.

Now, name the other clubs in European slots for both leagues.

No, it's not the same. Arsenal were not runners up to Man Utd when they sold RVP so stop trying to mould facts to make an argument.

The Bundersliga is a joke because Dortmund are selling their two best players to the champions, after finishing runners-up to them. When they should be making their squad stronger, and holding onto their best two players, they are instead selling them to the champions. And in doing so, have thrown away any chance to win the title next season.

The league as a whole isn't a joke but in terms of a competitive championship race it is. Bayern were already a huge way in front this season and now they've signed 2 of the second placed teams best players.

Because finishing 20pts behind them with those players was setting them up properly ?

I mean, they can't flip the ass ton of money they'll be getting into strengthening the shit out of their squad and better positioning themselves ?

Dortmund is full of young, talented players. They have Reus they can give the ST reigns to/Schieber waiting his turn and also have Leitner (would be much higher profile if not for Gotze) and Großkreutz. They're keeping there defense in tact. Add the shit ton of money and what they can recoup in the transfer market and they can very realistically come out ahead.

07-08 Munich finished 22 points ahead of Wolfsburg (5th) and 10pts clear of anyone else. The next year Wolfsburg won the title.

They can "strengthen the squad" all they like but I've got some news for ya; they will not be signing anybody as good as Lewandoski and Gotze in the Summer because nobody of their quality will be moving to the Bundersliga.

If the players want to go, but stay in Germany, what else can you do? Dortmund are gonna make a huge profit on these players and they can reinvest that in a number of areas, including funding their youth system to bring more people like Gotze through the ranks. Obviously it's not ideal, but I don't think it's like throwing in the towel.

Did Wolfsburg achieve that by selling their best players to bayern?

With the Guardiola appointment, as well as a kitty of 100mil, I don't really think it matters if Dortmund sold their best players to Bayern or not, they're gonna attract huge names who would've probably put them even further ahead of Dortmund, anyway. This way Dortmund get to make a huge profit which they can invest in a number of players, or future players. The business Bayern are likely to do in the future will make them even more of a force for a few years. Obviously it's shitty, especially as this Dortmund team are just so much fun to watch in Europe, but hey.

They did sell off Marcelinho (one of their best players, best mid the previous two seasons).

Unless it was to bayern then that proves little little.

I don't get what you're even arguing here. If you sell your best two players to a club already better than you, you are weakening yourself and strengthening them, and that's not a good thing.
