Yes, QOTSA is above your fucking beloved Smiths, what a travesty.

Can't see the fuss about The Smiths. Can't stand smiths fans either. Reminds me of my problem with Radiohead. The lead singer tries his damn hardest to suck the joy and goodness for the rest of the band. Give me the Pixies over them any day.

I do like noted Generic Rock Band Queens Of The Stone Age though. They make rock with no pretensions and a lot of depth. Rated R and Songs For The Deaf are essential, their new album is pretty good too.

The Smiths are great, obviously. Phenomenally over-rated, yes, but still great. Too much attention gets placed on Morrissey, the band as a whole were phenomenal.

Love that Divine Comedy QOTSA cover, not heard it in ages. Beyond a few songs, I've always thought that QOTSA were incredibly dull and not really got the hype. But then I genuinely think that their newest album is one of the best albums of the year, so they definitely have something going for them when they can get it together.

VP; in terms of people similar to Tom Waits, there's not a huge amount I could think of. The closest comparison would probably be Captain Beefheart, or even something weirder like Ken Nordine's "word jazz", but there's much, much more going on in Waits' stuff, especially more recently. Maybe check out the song "Goin' Out West" off Bone Machine, might be more up your street as a starting point than a lot of his other stuff.

For some clarity, most of the 'Know of them, listen to them occasionally' is stuff my dad plays when he's working at home, and I just grow to like it, and the 'Heard of them, but never listened to them properly' category is stuff I've heard maybe five songs to and never played a full album on purpose or I just know the name and have never listened to them and known it was them.

The 'Never heard of them' are people I've never heard music for at all, or just don't recognise the name.

List makes me feel very young compared to the rest of you.

The only ones I've liked on this list thus far are; A Day To Remember, Tyler, The Creator, Slipknot, Queen, Killswitch Engage, A$AP Rocky, Johnny Cash, Black Sabbath, Justin Timberlake, Wu Tang Clan, ACDC, System of A Down, Green Day and Iron Maiden. Also, I hate EWB just a little bit for fucking Five Finger Death Punch being on the list.
