The January 2015 Transfer Window thread

To be fair Nerf, Gerrard is much better off personally playing every week in a team competing for the MLS title than sitting on the bench at Liverpool.

He's probably my favourite player of the last 15 years but it does make sense for him to go, I'd just rather see him retire a Liverpool player.

That's the thing, though, he's not better off. He's literally choosing quantity over quality. He would rather run himself into the ground than go out gracefully. It's just a move that makes far less sense than it should. This isn't how his career was supposed to end, and I'm gutted that my favourite player of all time is somewhat tarnishing his legacy for the sake of notching a couple more minutes.

Ah come on, he isn't tarnishing his legacy at all. Him playing a season or two in the MLS takes absolutely nothing away from his Liverpool career, not at all. We all know he's past his best now anyway, a great deal of top players end their careers away from the club they made their name for. Pele, the man considered the greatest of all time, ended his career with the New York Cosmos after spending 20 years at Santos. I don't see anyone saying that ruined the perception of him as a Santos/Brazil/footballing legend.

Steven Gerrard wants to carry on playing competitive football every week, and he can do it living in a nice, warm country for a couple of years taking it a bit easier with his family. It makes perfect sense.

Apparently Liverpool want to re-sign Gerrard on loan from the MLS

This doesn't even make sense :P

He's not officially signed for anyone and is still a Liverpool player until the end of the season.
