Eurovision 2015

Germany gets last place for the first time since what, 60 years? That is amazing :D Other than that I have not much more to say than I already did. Boring contest with a lot of run-of-the-mill songs and nothing that really stood out (other than maybe the finnish Punk Rock guys). Meh.

Figured it was something like that. Russia didn't censor Conchita when she was a contestant last year so it made zero sense they'd do it when she was helping to present the show (If I remember right they and some other countries threatened to cut her out of the broadcast last year but the EBU stood firm & said they either showed all of the show or none of it)

Much like when they said that Turkey were refusing to show the 2013 contest because of the gay kiss in "Ding Dong". They were never going to show it anyway, but gay media like to overhype things.

Saying that: oh my god, I'm so happy I don't have to go to Moscow next year. Disappointed that Belgium didn't win, but it was probably the best top ten in a very long time. Would have rather Slovenia got in over Israel, but I couldn't complain about the rest.

Interesting bit though: Italy won the televote by over 80 points with Sweden actually in 3rd, but Sweden won the jury vote by about 100 (with Latvia second with the juries).

I kind of enjoyed that show - I think that it was hurt by the lack of "novelty" songs or performances, there were too many ballads too close together, and there wasn't a song or performance that was "out there" enough to be memorable. Still annoyed Finland didn't even make it to the final.

That said, the actual quality of the songs that made the final was probably amongst the highest in recent years - Slovenia's should be remembered as a Eurovision classic, Sweden just had a really, really solid pop song, and so on. I even quite liked the UK entry - lyrically dreadful, but musically a lot of fun - I just don't think it was particularly "Europe-friendly". Austria deserved to do better too - as much as it was a bit of a Keane/Snow Patrol soft rock indie forgettable track it wasn't dreadful, plus they had the bassist from Spinal Tap and they set a piano on fire.

I thought it was good this time around, some of the songs were pretty good although I do echo the opinion that it did lack some of the novelty songs that have made it fun before.

I think it was last year where Romania had some batshit crazy entrant that although the song wasn't great it was memorable. Lithuania a few years ago with "We are the winners".

And the voting wasn't as predictable as it normally was. Still annoyed that Serbia and Estonia didn't get in the top 4...(lost me a fiver :( )
