I'm sure they were/are. But I love the original and I love (what I think is a cover, or at least that fat bassline)

As a kid I always assumed this was a BOC song because it was on the BOC album my parents had. 

And I've always loved these GWAR covers from AV Undercover. Last year, a GWAR song was put on the list of songs artists could choose to cover, and Iron & Wine wound up covering it.
