How to improve your sport

I was listening to the radio earlier and people were coming up with ideas to make football more exciting. So, how can you pep up your sport?

Football:

In the last ten minutes of the game a second ball is added.
Instead of penalties after extra time they keep playing but every minute a player from each team has to go off until its just the 'keepers.
Goals from outside the area count double.
Replace isotonic sports drinks with bourbon.
If there is a penalty the manager has to take it against the other manager.

Golf:

Get rid of the clubs and the players and the caddies and just enjoy walking in a nice park

Baseball

10 run mercy rule after the seventh inning.

Ninety second at bat clock. After that, the batter is awarded first base.

After twelve innings, PK style home run challenge.

NFL

Swipe NCAA overtime rules.

NASCAR

Fire Brian France

Revert scoring to 2003 rules.

Eliminate 40% of the "cookie cutter" tracks and replace them with road courses and short tracks.

Hockey & Soccer

Full game Multiball/puck!

F1

Doesn't matter. MWL.

Baseball

Fire Joe West, Angel Hernandez and CB Bucknor.

After 3 foul balls, advance the batter but its considered no at bat, and it doesn't affect anyone's stats. (Meaning the batter doesn't get a hit, but his .avg isn't affected, and neither is the pitcher's .ERA, as its not considered a walk. Exception: If it would load the bases or drive in a run, the batter keeps swinging.

American Football

As someone else said, adopt the NCAA's overtime rules.

During postseason games (Playoffs and Super Bowl), ban extra points and require teams to go for 2 pt conversions.

NASCAR

Ditch the points, as far as determining the championship. (Keep the owner and manufacturing points) The only drivers who should be eligible for the championship are race winners, and, if there's an odd number of winners, the driver with either the most 2nd place finishes or most laps led without a win. (Using the other stat as a tie-breaker if needed.)

Kick out Danica Patrick.

Require the normal drivers to drive road courses, rather than letting teams put a road course specialist in their cars.

ALL sports

Have more accountability for officials. If someone constantly makes mistakes that affect the outcome of the game, or thinks they're more important than the game (Joe West!), then they shouldn't have a job.

NBA:

Extend replays to be able to review any type of play throughout the entire game rather than only the last two minutes of the second and fourth quarter.

On plays where the ball goes out of bounds on a certain player but he was CLEARLY FOULED which caused him to lose the ball out of bounds, let them go back and call the foul.

Stop being soft little pussies and play the game like it was played in the 90's.

Agree with all this. Also, find a way to fix all the cheap calls. If a player gets his arm stuck and can't get it out, it's not a foul on him. Likewise, how is it a foul on you if a player jumps into you.?

Jumping into someone should not be a foul on them. The only time that should be a foul is when you jump at a pump fake or whatever, and you end up in their space to the point where they can't get a normal shot off without contact. Also need harsher penalties for flops. A fine that won't even feel like a nickle to people like LeBron and James Harden won't solve anything.

Btw, I see the Jazz logo in your sig, I'm pulling for you guys. I'm from Portland, so I'm a Blazer fan and the first round hurt.

The foul thing was really making me upset during the first round. DeAndre Jordan would set a screen on our PG and as our PG would try to go over the top of it, Chris Paul would jump into him, pinning our PG between him and Jordan and it was a foul on us every time.

Thanks man, got a little bit of a soft spot for Portland with Lillard on there.

Without her, NASCAR loses a sizeable chunk of its new core audience of millennials and other assorted types who don't give a shit. Same reason Massa is still in F1.

She's an ambassador for the sport, sure. And a marketing tool. But as a driver, she's a waste of space that I'm sick of hearing about. She's not a pioneer and hasn't done anything historic, because there have been a few female drivers in NASCAR before her. She's just the most notable one. At this point, she's never going to win a race unless all the drivers in front of her crash on the last lap or the race is fixed. (There hopefully will be a competitive female driver who wins races someday. It just won't be her.)

I almost put down "Get rid of one of the road course races", but I like both tracks they use. As long as they don't add more road courses, I'm fine. But some teams switching drivers for those races is bullshit. (And usually a mistake. Regular drivers have won more road course races than the `specialists'.)

Another thing I thought of:

Any team sport where how you do during the season determines your draft order (especially Basketball and American Football)

Implement a way to punish teams that intentionally choke to improve their draft position. Its not fair to the fans who buy tickets expecting to see a competitive game, only to see a team throw the game away or even bench star players (the NBA does fine teams for doing that) so they lose.

Basketball/NBA - stop inventing ways to bail out shitty free throw shooters. In fact, I feel bad FT shooters need to be driven into the ground until they learn to drain a reasonable rate of free throws. It's not because they're tall, because there are plenty of good/great tall guys that can shoot free throws. It's just that they're lazy and they don't actually learn to shoot from the stripe.

Andre Roberson (a 6'7 swingman of all positions) was the ultimate example of being a pitiful shooter, going .143 from the stripe in the playoffs. I don't care he's a good defender, anyone that is literally unfathomably bad at shooting open mid-range shots deserves to be locked up in the gym until they get to 60-70%.

No professional who makes so much money has a right to be bailed out of being so bad.
