  1. So, I was already mostly through that second season when I started this, plus I usually play as a deep bench player if I do play, and we finished the 1984-85 season with a championship, first seed in the West, fourth best record overall. We then went 15-0 in the playoffs, I played the first game of each series as Olajuwon, then the rest as the end of rotation guys. We did have some tough moments, Seattle in the first wasn't too bad, but the Jazz took us to overtime in the first two games before we pulled away. The Clippers made the WCF from the 7th seed behind a great post-season by Terry Cummings, but didn't have the horses to keep up with us. We faced Detroit, off back to back seven game series, including an ECF over Boston, who arrived a little earlier than IRL, mostly on the back of IT and Laimbeer. They had home court, and were tough in the first two, but I have deep bench players better than their rotation players, so, especially with their backup big, Bill Walton out, they just didn't have enough to keep up. No draft picks or cap space this season, so the only big move was swapping Bob McAdoo, my third C for Robert Reid to be my 2nd SF. It gives me a solid ten in rotation, although the deeper bench will be weaker this year.
  2. I know we have separate threads for different games, but I thought a catch-all thread similar to the TEW games thread might be fun, where we can all share the ongoing adventures of our various sports franchises across games and years, without needing to maybe put in as much work as you would in The Cube. I'll start, I've got a LA Lakers franchise on 2k23, started in the Magic era, right now we're starting the 1984-85 season, coming off a first round exit to the Seattle Supersonics in the 4/5 series. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was out, and I sim a lot so I'm not just scoring 40 and winning every game. I have pretty solid sliders as well. Went into the off-season prepared to just hold the fort down and shuffle around the bench, but things got pretty crazy. I have my trade difficulty slider at like 70-75 (I sometimes do 100 but you don't get realistic trades there), and was able to move off Jamal Wilkes for the younger, bigger, and cheaper Larry Nance, a lateral move at worst, but makes me lengthy up front, which is great for the 80s. The big move was kind of spur of the moment. I don't really tend to do things I consider too unrealistic as a GM in sports games, a man's gotta have a code, but the 1984 draft is the Jordan, Barkley, Hakkem draft, and I've never really tried to make a move. Well, Philly had the first pick, but wouldn't deal, and Chicago had the second pick, and also wouldn't deal. Portland, however, had the third pick, and would deal. The 3rd overall pick and C Michael Thompson for my Unprotected 1985 1st rounder, the eighth man off my bench, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Now, this was highly, highly unrealistic, because the Lakers would never have traded The Captain, but Thompson + one of Jordan/Barkley/Hakeem was going to be better long term than KAJ and my 8th man. Regardless of which one I got, it was either a younger replacement who should end up just as good in Olajuwon, a PF in Barkley that lets me move James Worthy to the 3 and gives me one of the most athletic and capable front courts in the league, or I replace Byron Scott with literally the best player to ever play and have MJ and MJ in the same backcourt, it's a no brainer, yeah? Make the deal, go to the draft, and end up with Olajuwon. So now it's the start of the 1984-85 season and we'll see how it goes, but I've got Magic. Worthy, and Olajuwon, so I might have extended Showtime into the mid 90s... if I can keep Magic and Big Game James, they love to test FA. I also have a Raiders franchise on Madden 21, and I'm probably going to play some NCAA14 in anticipation of the new game, so I might drop some stuff in here about those when I get to the end of the seasons, might be a while, I tend to sim a lot more on 2k than on football games.
  3. If Jimmy's just around to hold a clipboard, I'm sure he's probably fine, but he didn't have anything on the field for the Raiders this year, and we were desperate for any QB play above mediocrity.
  4. Regardless of how you feel about Fields on the, uh, field, he's damaged goods in Chicago, and, with DJ Moore and Keenan Allen, there's no way you can sell going with Marvin Harrison Jr. over Caleb Williams. They cannot go into next season with Fields as their QB1, that would be a disaster for them.
  5. No, I meant Reggie, because it's been a lifetime since he played and I forgot he was an end, which means that Alan Page, who has a MVP, is the only one I'd argue for above Donald. I had forgotten about Randy White, he's gotta be up there, and, yeah, Green and Sapp are pretty much the next rung down for me. Half my brain is also telling me to mention Cortez Kennedy, but the other half isn't so sure if he actually belongs in the conversation, or if it's just because he's one of my favorite players of all time. John Randle is probably close to that second tier for me. Sorry, I ramble, but I played defensive tackle, so DTs, and defensive lineman in general, have always been one of the things I pay the most attention to when watching football, so I kind of nerd out, lol. I think Daniels is going to be good, he's who I've wanted for the Raiders since before the college season even ended, so I think he'd be a great choice for Min. I don't know if he's going to be there at 11, though, but then I wouldn't take Maye or McCarthy over him and that might happen, so who knows.
  6. They didn't play together, if anything, Jayden Daniels is more of an ASU product anyway, hence why if anyone moves up for them it'll be the Raiders, since Antonio Pierce coached him in HS and college. As for Aaron Donald, he's, at worst, the third best IDL of all time. I'd have Reggie White and probably Alan Page ahead of him, but that's it.. Truly a first ballot HOFer and damn near a unicorn.
  7. I'm not one to defend sex offenders, but I did read that this came about in a extortion case he's involved in (Dak is, allegedly, the one being extorted) and isn't a 'new' case. Admittedly, I haven't looked into it beyond that (and having seen a r/nfl post about said extortion case prior to this), but it might not be what it seems in this particular case.
  8. Mr. Bad Comparison. On a less r/nfl meme note, I've always wanted to like Rodgers. Yeah, he seemed like kind of a dick, but I always kind of saw him similar to CM Punk (and maybe myself, tbh), an asshole, but a good guy at the bottom of it, but, like so many people, politics and pandemic really brought out the pieces of shit. Man, if you're Justin Fields right now you're like that episode of Fresh Prince 'why don't nobody want me, man'.
  9. The AFC is gonna be tough next year. KC, Buffalo, Miami, Baltimore, Cleveland, Houston, plus Cincinatti, Pittsburgh, the Jets, and the Raiders should all be tough outs on paper.
  10. I'm all for cancelling people who have done what he had been accused of, but the flip side of that is if they're cleared you need to let them back in to society. You can't have an accusation, if not proven, ruin someone's life. It sucks, because SA is often so hard to prove, but there needs to be balance on both sides or it become weaponized.
  11. Honestly, and this is gonna sound so dumb, but I think it's just a hold over from when I was in HS playing football and decided 'I don't need to wear anyone else's jersey when I have my own', lol. I don't care if anyone else does, although, I agree, wearing the to games (or like a bar on gameday, that sort of thing) is really the only 'right' place. I've thought about collecting classic Raiders jerseys, I've always kind of wanted a Howie Long, but I just don't think I'd ever wear it. Now, if I could just get the Raiders Starter Jacket I've wanted for 30+ years, lol.
  12. I've never worn a jersey unless I was playing a sport, it's a little weird to me, tbh.
  13. Minshew and Wilkins? Oh, QBs and MILFs fucked in the AFC West. That Crosby, Wilkins, Wilson, Koonce pass rush is going to do damage, and Minshew already has plenty of weapons to work with, even when Renfrow leaves, and let's us pick a corner in the first round. Why do I get my hopes up every year? This feels different, though?
  14. I'm gonna hide here, I'm too high to be Redditing rn.
