  1. Regarding Eccleston's departure, this article quotes him as saying "I left because of politics. I did not see eye to eye with them. I didn't agree with the way things were being run. I didn't like the culture that had grown up around the series. So I left, I felt, over a principle." I think it all worked out for the best, that being said. Eccleston's portrayal of the character was great but the season itself was all over the place. After figuring out what worked through trial and error with that run and finally deciding on an identity to stick with for season two, it was nice to get a new Doctor to have sort of a clean slate. It made the show's transition to something smarter, something with less... giant farting CGI lizard babies... go a little more smoothly, I think. Still kind of hoping they secretly wrangled Eccleston for the 50th after all though because he himself was great as the Doctor and to see him in a more fully realized version of New Who would be amazing.
  2. I'd go with "incanter". It's better to create a lush, living, breathing world with its own culture and terms and concepts to hook your audience than it is to ball-and-chain yourself to the notion of simplicity for their sake. They'll understand what an incanter is the second you tell them an incantee is running about incanting with her incanter and the wretched thing is sucking people's souls out through their eye sockets. The custom nomenclature can only help because it enriches the world you're creating and helps to separate it from the litany of other sci-fi/fantasy stories out there. Just try and evenly distribute the expository text needed to explain all your worlds' eccentricities between dialogue, narration, and description so it never seems clunky and you shouldn't have a problem -- people who are reading sci-fi or fantasy want to feel like they've been taken somewhere else.
  3. Martino's Skin is good and it's on EWWarehouse. Drk Flows' Cross The Line skin was always my favorite but the links in the GDS thread are dead. Somebody here may be able to re-up it, though.
  4. Be sure to read TEW development team member Derek B's mod-making guide on the GDS forums before you get started on this, Skummy. It's a long read but it'll teach you the ins and outs of all the mechanics to the core and will result in more realistic, Cornellverse-like data that gels much better with the game than most of the modern day mods we've had for years now do. Both Fleisch and NWAvsWWF over there are doing modern day mods that are nearing completion now and are tailored to the game's mechanics because of that guide. That said, this is is an awesome idea and I'm really looking forward to seeing where you go with it.
  5. Triple H is the most cool important legendary tough bad ass manly icon in the history of this business. Three is hardly enough.
  6. I just finished episode three and:
  7. Here's one I whipped up. There's not much space to work with but I think it turned out alright given the limitations. I used the roman numeral VI from the forum logo to try and make it match the look of the board and stuff. Here's the favicon in transparent 16x16 PNG form: Andddddd here's a quick shot of it in action on a Firefox tab:
  8. Saw it today and thought it was great. It's sort of like Rosemary's Baby meets Suspiria meets Devil's Rejects and I reeeeally dig it. Shame it kind of got thrown to the wolves with that limited release because it's one of the better post-2000 horror films. Definitely the best thing Zombie's done since Devil's Rejects, if not just the best thing he's done outright. If anybody's interested, it came out on DVD in the UK a few days ago so you can totally legally and not nefariously at all watch it if it's not playing anywhere near you.
  9. I checked out the first five issues of Superior Spider-Man after hearing about what happened and I actually, surprisingly, really like it. That said, I have two minor questions about the current state of the continuity, spoilered just to be 100% safe for anyone else who's been out of the loop:
  10. Anyone on PS3 interested in some online matches sometime? Preferably people who know how to do things that aren't running grapples? I just lost a match to the (goddamn) Undertaker after about 74 running DDT spams.
  11. I unlocked everything in one night. It's relatively easy, but you'll want to throw your controller at the screen by the end. Attitude Era becomes reeeeeeeeally hard to get through once THQ's trademark laziness sets in and you're left with an endless sea of Undertaker vs Kane match variations to wade through. I'd recommend leaving it on easy throughout the story mode because some of the historical bonus objectives will drive you crazy if you don't.
  12. The ratio of Stone Cold to Ken Shamrock in Attitude Era mode is puzzling...
  13. Totally just caved and ordered a copy from Amazon. How are the community creation servers this year? I was playing WWE 12 like a week before 13 dropped and they were still awful...
  14. Magnolia. EDIT - Actually, every Paul Thomas Anderson film except Boogie Nights...
  15. Thanks, man. Let me know if you spot any problems or anything.
  16. It looked like one was Hardy Boyz Lita and the other was Edge Lita. Did I miss Ryback, or did he not make the cut?
  17. Laurinaitis is in! And current day, questionably brown-haired, leathery Kevin Nash. Yes!
  18. That entrance is beautiful. The graphics this year look fantastic.
  19. Enclosed is a link to a set of 352 "lite", loosely EWR-inspired angles for TEW2010. The pack was built on an up-converted version of Idol's TEW2005 pack, though I've re-organized a lot of things, deleted a few unnecessary angles, added in a bunch of new ones that really needed to be included, tweaked lots of minimum and maximum run times for realism, and fixed participant roles broken from up-conversion through three different iterations of the game. It's not "complete" yet -- none of the angles have Auto Names, the Risk levels seem to be one grade higher than they really should be, and there are some things I still need to add -- but it functions pretty well as-is, and totally eliminates the need to sift through 4,000 angles to run a simple backstage promo. Simplicity and the elimination of redundancy was my primary goal with this set, so things like "Backstage Attack" angles and "Run In Attack" angles have been merged into "Attack" angles, while things like "Post-Match Attack" angles have been eliminated altogether. They're all mechanically the same and I've re-written the commentary to be generic enough to work in any situation. That said, while I've trimmed lots of things down, I've beefed others way up. Manager angles in particular I went a bit crazy with. Each Manager angle has a version that rates on Overness, one that rates on Menace, and one that rates on Sex Appeal, so you can get relative unknowns that aren't good speakers but are menacing or attractive over a bit more easily by pairing them with a mouthpiece -- just like in real life. These work well for stables too, as each angle has a version with different numbers of workers. You can use the Manager angles to have a stable leader hype his group of seven menacing men who have taken your company by storm, or to have a manager hype her super-attractive female tag team. Video angles function similarly, so you can hype debuting workers based on their Overness, their Entertainment, their Menace, or their Sex Appeal. Most angle packs I've seen don't really allow you to use traits like Menace and Sex Appeal to your advantage, so I've tried to correct that here. In any event, the link's below. All the credit in the world goes to Idol, who really did the majority of the legwork on these. I checked with him before posting this so it's no biggie, but, still, credit to him. Let me know if you any thoughts or ideas or anything. Mediafire
  20. Yeah, like pokerfreak said, that's the '05 pack. I actually upconverted it to 2010 for someone on here a while back, but there are some problems because '05 and '10 use very different participant roles. '08 uses the same roles as '10, though, so the '08 pack would actually work out of the box while the '05 one is in need of some elbow grease. That being said, I had some free time last night and I've juuuust about gotten the '05 pack whipped into shape for TEW2010. All the Catalysts that should be Attackers are now Attackers, a lot of the maximum/minimum running times have been adjusted for realism, and I've deleted a lot of redundant angles while adding several noticeable omissions. I've also added in some manager and video angles that rate on menace or sex appeal instead of overness, to help get unknown workers over. Once I finish up on adding attack angles for every possible combination of 8 participants (7vs1, 6vs2, 5vs3, etc.) so that stables can be simmed effectively, and then add in a few angles themed around TNA's Gut Check segments, I'll check with Idol and post it up if he gives the okay. They're still missing Auto Name and the angle risk levels all seem to be one level higher than they should be, but I don't ever use the former and the latter can be fixed more quickly for now by editing the risks of whatever TV stations and PPV carriers apply to you, but, still, it'll be a good start.
  21. I've been looking for these forever to upgrade them to 2010. I even checked with Idol and he doesn't have them. A re-up really would be awesome because these aren't online anywhere anymore.
  22. Woah. That is seriously fantastic. Thanks!
