  1. one thing I noticed about James Somerton was how he just wasn't interesting to listen to or watch in any of the clips I saw. I dunno if I'm one to talk, I'm aware that I'm naturally a bit deadpan and low energy so whenever I'm performing I at least try to seem a bit more energetic than I am IRL. I've got 1,500 subscribers and haven't made a video in a long time now, but it makes you feel things to see people ripping other people off and being successful. At most, I just feel vindicated for every footnote, citation, and bibliography I've ever done for a video even if I didn't always do. It wasn't a thing people really did when I first started doing the videos really.
  2. I feel like the ones who have survived and flourished from those days were the ones with something to actually say when the faux anger was no longer working. Seeing the glimpses ive seen of the AVGN on other peoples videos (hbomberguy and lady emilys to be exact). That just seems kinda sad now. He feels like a relic. Todd in the Shadows is probably the only "big" name from those times I still watch on YouTube who remains mostly unchanged but he was never an "angry reviewer". Lindsay Ellis is still going too but she is 100% behind a paywall these days and she doesn't upload too often. Although he wasn't a big TGWTG name Dan Olson came into his own YouTube. He seems to just do these long documentary projects now. But they're always good. These days I mostly watch a few video essay types with my girlfriend on weekends. Along with the above mentioned we watch probably watch a Patrick Willems or a Maggie Mae Fish video every time one drops and dip in and out of a few others. We planned on watching just an hour of the Hbomberguy video and ended up watching close to 3hrs of it. Its rare we would sit and watch a multi hour video like that. I do think hbomb manages to keep the pace fairly well with how he structures them.
  3. Ive still an hour and 10 mins of the hbomb video left and then i wake up to this Id never heard of Jake Summerton before this. I had seen Internet Historian videos pop up on YouTube but the name plus the avatar put me off watching them. I watched one Illuminaughty video and I cannot remember what it was. I do remember the style and delivery just didn't click with me. It just kinda felt a bit flat.
  4. Hbomberguy has dropped a nearly 4hr video on plagiarism on youtube not watched it yet, will probably spread it out over a few days tbh
  5. I had a post ready to go about Liverpool being not that good today Then my internet dropped and Liverpool scored twice.
  6. Liverpool have scored great goals but haven't defended well. Im not sure how much of that is down to Kelleher.

continuing on the Springsteen thing: I learned there is a terrible Rage Against The Machine version of The Ghost of Tom Joad.
  8. I watched the trailer without sound last night and thought some of the shots had a real shot-on-greenscreen look to them. They'll probably look better in the final film tbh
  9. https://rip.ie/death-notice/shane-macgowan-tipperary-nenagh-537819 Shane McGowan's death notice is up on Ireland's premier death notices website
  10. Not knowing his history, I still remember being shocked the first time I ever heard Shane McGowan speak because I assumed he would talk in a Dublin accent.
  11. I feel like he had been in rough shape for quite some time based on anything I had ever heard. I wasn't tremendously into his work but it's sort of inescapable living in Ireland. With Sinead O'Connor and Christy Dignam from Aslan dying this year too feels a few names of an area of Irish music have gone.

Ended up on $2.7 million. compared to the Gizmoplex one this was a fairly low-key effort which feels mostly strike-related, a little hit by going outside off of Kickstarter and a little hit by some people being a bit put off by season 13. This seems to me to be mainly down to the lack of physical sets, that they gave the live show crew time on the main show and Crow's voice was different. It's a shame. I hope they can go again. This much would've gotten them 3 episodes last time out. EDIT: Joel has sent out an email update: The big news is they seem to be exploring some offers from outside backers to help fund things going forward.
  13. i'd be surprised if Liverpool don't score at all in this game

One of the Gizmoplex specials was the "surgically enhanced" Pumaman. It looked good! That it's totally pre-taped seems like a mistake. Even if they did a few hours live streaming each night with whatever cast/writers they could, did a jackbox thing, a Q and A, whatever silly things they could to get some interest that'd be a lot better than doing the same Turkey Day thing they usually do only with a crowdfund campaign attached.

Im enjoying the additional line of grumpy blokes in comments that go "Rifftrax did it!" (Mainly for Plan 9) like that even matters. They are at 1.9million now. It'll be a big ask to get double that in a few days. Its a shame and I feel like if this fails its gonna be harder to go again. The small number out there who suddenly know how to produce 90mins of streaming television will feel satisfied though. I really want Emily and her crew to get more episodes. They're really good. I honestly think Conor McGiffin's Tom Servo is only bettered by Kevin Murphy. Yvonne Freese is hilarious as Mega Synthia and Kelsey Brady deserves to do more too.

They have announced Plan 9 from Outer Space as a Season 14 episode. Crowdfunding stands at 1.7million with 8 days left.

    Random Music Thoughts

I am listening to Adam Scott and Scott Aukerman, the men who brought us 2 Talkin U2 2 Me, R U Talkin' REM RE: Me and U Talkin' Talking Heads To My Talking Head, latest show Springing Springsteen On My Bean. Its the first time I've really realized how much of a construct Bruce Springsteen is. I knew there was a lot of gimmick about how he presented himself but he seems to also have had a lot of people directing him and pushing him to go against his, occasionally not great, instincts. As well as the impact of his depression. Im learning a surprising amount from the comedy podcast where they spend half the show doing bits and not talking about the music.
  20. Comedy more often than not ages poorly. I remember watching The Critic back recently and while for the most part it held up there were a few transphobic jokes that were really awkward. NewsRadio on the other hand generally was okay and remains the only good that Andy Dick and Joe Rogan ever did. Although I have yet to bring myself to finish the final season.
  21. I occasionally cast my eye over ths MLS still and that play off system is a very American approach to football. Nothing wrong with two legs, aggregate scores, and away goals.
  22. A few people who have seen it said it was great. I think it was BenDavid Grabinski (writer on the upcoming Scott Pilgrim sbow) who compared it to Roger Rabbit.
  23. I only saw the 2nd half because I routinely forget about the Europa league. Liverpool weren't very good for what I saw. The VAR at the end was incredibly weird.
