The coach should choose when a player stops playing for the country, not the player. When you get to the stage where you aren't good enough it's up to the coach to give you your bike and tell you to get on. If you're still available and are being picked, then you play.

The only thing should be whether the player seriously thinks they can no longer cope with the international rigors - such as they are too old to keep up with the constant club matches to be ready for an international match. Kind of like how Sunderland have treated Dwight Yorke, he's too old to play 2-3 international matches at a time and then come back and play a top league match. I know that's a bit off topic because it's Sunderland kind of handling the situation, but Dwight did retire - then decided he wanted to keep playing so it has some relevance.

Either way, if Beckham can produce and is fit. Then he can be picked and play. He shouldn't have to say he doesn't want to play, if Capello is willing to pick him.

"There is a Kazakhstani at Wembley Central station handing out leaflets to visitors from the world's ninth-biggest country. In the 45 seconds I was inside the station, he was asked to "high five" six times. It's going to be a long day for some."

I laughed.

I'm thinking it'll be 2-0, 3-0 at a push maybe. Probably a goal either side of the break.

I don't think we'll be anything special, but if we get the job done and don't pick up any injuries then I'm not too worried. They'll have a couple of close chances throughout.

It'll be your typical England performance basically.

From what I've watched that Ulugbek Asanbaev for Kazakhstan doesn't look too bad. The Uzbekistan born guy (I thought he was half Chinese at first). Shame he's 29 though, a bit old but from what I've seen he's easily been Kazakhstan's best player on the field.
