The England thread

It's beyond me as to why Smith was playing. Nothing against him but he just shouldn't have been playing for England. Okay, it was a friendly, but it'd have been nice to see somebody else get a chance. I've got nothing against Smith, but he just doesn't do anything for me. He can work hard at times, but I just thought he was almost invisible throughout that game and he has been like that for quite a while, I just don't rate the guy anymore.

As for the game, pretty good game. Beckham being back was a great sight for me, hopefully he starts in Estonia too. Owen looked good at times. Somebody said about dropping Lampard, certainly agree there. Not for good, but the bloke has been poor time and time again. It's okay to suddenly axe Beckham all those months ago, but Lampard who was playing worst sticks to the team?

And as predicted people orgasm over Beckham being back and praise a performance where we steal a draw against a not even trying Brazil side *rolleyes*. Beckhams assist was more down to Terry getting it right, law of averages tells us if you take enough set pieces one of them will fall right and it's down to the finish, identical to ther perfectly good goal that was disalowed for "being against the home side". Any other set piece taker could have set up that goal, even Jenas could've done it after enough tries.

Who are people kidding picking up positives from this game, it was obvious in a competetive game Brazil would have left walking pace and gone for it a bit more, even when they scored at the end they weren't really chasing, just doing what they do. The funny thing is we know that the same people will be slating Estonia for playing our 10 at the back system on Wednesday.

People aren't going crazy over Beckham. The point is, he was dropped for no good reason, when there were people playing worst than he was. Since he returned to Madrid a few months back he's been fantastic and played one of the biggest roles in possibly leading them to winning the title. He's been given another chance and last night he was good, there were numerous people who played much worst than he did, so I don't see why some people come down hard on Beckham. Yes, maybe somebody like Jenas could have put the ball in like Beckham did, but he didn't, Beckham did.

So what if Brazil weren't playing super? It was a friendly, who's to say England were playing at their best and constantly going all out? If it was a proper competition style match and Brazil played at their best, then England probably would too, so that argument makes no real sense. I just don't get why there's always one person moaning, especially over a friendly. I get happy to see Beckham back because I feel he deserves to be their, certainly based on what I've seen him doing for Madrid over the months. He may not have the most speed or be able to take on four defenders, but he's still a fantastic player.

Don't be silly, Robinson didn't even try for it because the flag had gone up, he may well have saved it otherwise.

And Jenas could have done better than Beckham? Don't be silly.

Beckham is a good player, you can't deny it.

Oh come off it, if that was the case then how do you explain the dull performances in the qualifiers?

Jenas could have done and there's the funny thing. ANY set piece player who takes enough chances will get one right, same as any player who has a pop from 30 yards will get one right after enough tries. Beckham got 19 tries to deliver the perfect ball in from set pieces, one of them was going to fall and when it did Terry was there and finished the job. Any set piece player would get one right.

Were not professional footbakllers being the problem there but you made my point, if a player gets enough dead ball opportunities they WILL get one of them right, especially if they're picked for being a dead ball specialist.

But we should be professionals, because we'd get one right at some point....

Oh come on. Beckham raced round the pitch tackling and defending all over the place. "lolz he jst takez freekicks"? Not at all, and even if he did he does it with the best of them. To suggest an also-ran like Jenas could do it as well as him is laughable. Beckham works bloody hard during most games, the likes of Lampard could do well to follow his act.

Shut it you. :P

Lennon can do it but I think someone has told him to work more on his all-round game than just his explosive pace so maybe that's why he doesn't do it as often. Not from what I have seen anyway.
