EWB's All-Time Favorite TV Show Tournament

I was personally pulling for The Office and The Sopranos throughout the tournament. I didn't expect either one to win, but they both won a few matches so I was happy about that.

Riiiiiight, The Sopranos. Had it not gone up against The Simpsons, I feel like it could have gone to the finals.

I'm actually still surprised The Simpsons didn't go all the way.

Community will not hold up a few years down the line. It's so very much a show of right now that there's no way it'll seem as good once the future arrives, except as a nostalgia tool for those of us who consider right now the best era. But even Seinfeld seems out of date these days, so that's not necessarily such a horrible thing.

I voted for which show I would rather see a random episode of. To me there are a few misses with AD, I hated the English bit. But as a whole it's 90% great episodes. To me Community has a lower strike rate, it also seems less settled in what it is setting out to achieve. I personally liked the first season the best. To me the paintball episodes are a good example, the first one was tight and lovely and amusing. By making it a double episode it didn't make it twice as good, it just made it feel drawn out. I don't really know how to put it, I much preferred it when it was a small group of friends in a small setting. Now everything feels expanded but less alive.

And I'm glad AD won. I'm with GoGo in that a show needs to take its course and be evaluated a while after finishing its run to determine its true value.

I thought it was a shame that Buffy went out so early, I thought that as it's usually one of EWB's favourite shows that it would go a lot further. But I guess it proves that it usually gets quality of votes instead of quantity in other lists.

I still think it's a bit silly that MASH didn't even qualify.

Not saying it was going to win(nor is it even one of my 4 favourites) but it was a better show than a fair number of those that did qualify.

Holy shit, that's Charlize Theron? Oh man.

Honestly, I'm fine with Arrested Development winning because Community has been very hit and miss for me this season. I prefer Community overall, but I don't find AD quite as amazing as most do. (Though I still do think it's wonderful)

But then saying that about Community's latest series, I have some pretty serious doubts as to how good the new Arrested Development will be.

- The number of points gained in the nomination round is on the left. The name of the show is on the right.

- The shows are listed from highest points to lowest points, i.e. the list starts with the number 1 seeds in from the tourney and ends with the shows that didn't have a prayer of making it into the tourney.

- You'll notice a line break at the tournament cut-off point. Everything above that line made it into the tourney, and everything below it did not.

- You will also notice that The IT Crowd qualified for the tourney while a few other shows with the same amount of points did not. This is because a) that gave us a neat 64-team tourney and b) The IT Crowd was on more ballots with more quality nominations (higher positions on those ballots.)
