It doesn't make a difference. Big market teams can still offer the largest contracts, all this does is keep the Japanese owners from making as much money.

Yeah, but I don't think he sees the contract offers from each individual team until after he's agreed which of the bids he's willing to "accept"? Like it could be the Yankees and five other teams with their $20 million bids, but no actual contract offers are on the table at that time.

New York could be willing to give him a bigger contract than say LA or Boston, but he won't know that unless he accepts the Yankees initial $20 million bid. That'll just grant us the access to discuss contracts with him.

Isn't that how it works, or am I thinking of something else entirely? I'm not wrong in assuming he can only discuss contract with one team, the team he selects, am I? You have me doubting myself.

Any team willing to sign the player may negotiate with them. He takes the offer he wants and the team then pays the posting fee.
