Is anybody else a bit disillusioned with football?

This could.be interesting. I must admit I find it hard to care about football this season. Man Utd, Celtic, Bayern and Barcelona running away with their respective leagues is a big part of this.

I like Simon Kuper. He articulates some of the reasons quite well here: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/2ed1dcbe-6ff7-11e2-8785-00144feab49a.html#axzz2PEdiv04t.

To that we could add the ineptitude of governing bodies at national and international level who are only too happy to ignore racism and corruption, the awful commentators, the sexism and lad culture, the rampant commercialisation of the World Cup, the humourless tribalism of football fans on the Internet and in the radio, the booing at half-time when a club that is third in the table has the temerity not to be winning. Then there's all aspects of the Rio Ferdinand debate and ongoing career of Robbie Savage. Oh, and Michael Owen's self-aggrandising retirement statement. Clubs being bought and sold by shysters looking to make a quick buck.

It seems the imperative is to make a profit rather than playing to win.

The exploitation of the fans. Scandalous ticket prices, emotional blackmail, two new kits every season...

I mean, I still love a game down the park, though I don't even get to do that in London. And the vacuum of the professional game doesn't make up for it. I'm going to watch Barnet this weekend. Hopefully seeing Edgar David's will reassure me a bit, but really, I couldn't care less about other things right now.

No, this season has been a fucking blast.

This.

The only difference this year is the drama is down the bottom instead of at the top.

I was being sarcastic. :(

Then denote it with an appropriate smiley :@

I still stand by it though. I have enjoyed this season for the most part. It's not nearly as great as last season but still enjoyable.

To be honest other than the top of the Prem everything else is really open:

Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and Everton for Champions League

About 10 teams could get relegated from the Prem

Cardiff should be up but Watford, Hull or Palace could join them

Forest, Leicester and Brighton for two playoff spots

Leeds are 12th and 5 points off relegation. It's just ridiculous how tight that is

Doncaster in a good position to go up but anyone from about 7 teams could still get playoffs

Looks like Oldham/Scunthorpe to go down with Portsmouth, Bury and Hartlepool

Gillingham and Port Vale looking good to go up, the rest of top 8/9 quite close, bottom of the league is the same

Should be quite a good end to the season I think

I don't think there is a problem with football on the field, most of it's problems are off the field and caused by the media, for example, the never ending 24/7/365 drivel regarding Rio Ferdinand or 99% of football related stories in the media being complete fabrications.

I went to Gillingham last weekend for their home game against Accrington Stanley (exactly). The temperature peaked at around 1 degree centigrade and the second half saw Gillingham clinging on to a 1-0 lead. If anything could have been seen as bleak, it would have been those 45 minutes. Still, it's the whole event, the chanting of the fans, the banter, the little moments of skill and mistakes made.

Then with my team Spurs right up there challenging for third place (our highest for yeeeeears) and nah, no disillusionment here fella.

Its the gamesmanship and the media that I hate. Winning at all costs, diving, cheating and the like really put me off. I want the game to be about tactics, skill and physicality, not about how best to con the ref.

Reminds me of when I had the time to go down the Orient. Add in a dodgy burger and shit fans and its the same.

Some players are cocks too, case in point, Chris Samba going on twitter to moan at fans criticising him after his dogshit performance last night and asking 'What's a £100,000 per week performance?'.

Twat.

It's shit that the big teams only seem to get bigger and the only way of joining them, seemingly, is to spend ridiculous amounts of money. There's way too much money in the game now and it's killing the sport, the atmosphere at some premier league grounds is appalling.
